Maybe I'm a freak, but I want a computer to be dead silent. I've always kept my PC in another room (note! my pc is a audio workstation, so it's really quiet anyway). I think that a thing that is in your room, and powered on most of the time should not be any louder than anything else in the room. You can get head ache, tinnitus, problems with concentration and stuff if you have permanent noise in your surroundings.

I know there is a group out there that is trying to get computer manufactures to put the noise volume on the box with the speed and such.

I agree that computers are getting so loud. But there has to be a compromise for the amount of heat that is created. How about liquid nitrogen?

Well, I don't go back and forth to change CDs all day so I can live with the fact that I have to walk 20 ft once in a while. I don't burn that much CDs either, and I don't buy a new record or program every day, so for me, it works great.

No, I've never seen a G5 in real life, and if it is that silent it's great! Then I would love Apple for listening to the needs of customers (or at least one), and caring for the office/home environment.

But the G4 is terrible! Huh! Like a typical noname x86-computer.

No!! I would love to have cows outside my window! All I hear is kids playing, people chatting and traffic. :cry: You can have my mid-city flat and all the noise that belongs to it in exchange for your cow-office. I'm longing for a house in the archipelago... :shy:

The new 20" iMac is gorgeous and I'm getting one along with .52TB of external storage instead of a G5.

Does it matter what Apple's market-share is? We all know that at the moment the Computer market is dominated by PCs, and through it all Apple have released some great machines and software. Apple are setting the standard, regardless of their market-share. Companies are ripping them off and trying to cash in. Just look at how Apple's Invention of the Year is being duplicated by other companies, even Microsoft plan on releasing a similar thing next year.

I don't believe that report anyway.. 'Needham analyst Charles Wolf said in a research note this week that Apple could capture 20 percent of the U.S. pay-per-download market with its iTunes Music store.' According to other sources Apple's share of the pay-per-download music scene is around 60%.
