There is no proof at all for "news" being an acronym, and absolutely no evidence for "acronym" being an acronym.
The word acronym has been around for a lot of centuries, probably more than 20. It's a composition of the greek words "akro-" and "-onym".
When scholars, philosophers and munks talked about acronyms, English were not the language it is today. English had almost no influence on any other language (except indian languages) before the end of the second world war.

At least the first three words in this sentence were borrowed from French/Latin in the second half of 11 century or later. And the spelling has not been the same forever, read an Old English text and you'll see what I mean. So you can't claim the word to be an english invention which it must be to be an acronym of the sentence you suggested.

I have adored the LCD iMac since I first saw one and would really like to molest one with my dirty hands!
Sadly (?), my Windows computer is a speed monster and I have no use for two computers i my small apartment.
*dreams of nicely designed iMacs for a while*
But, after all, the iMac has no PCI-slot, not even one. Phew! Now I don't have to buy one.
Hey, wait! 20" LCD monitor? I could kill for that thing!

After looking at apples new prices for 1.6 G5, i have a dilemma...
20" iMac or 1.6 G5 with 17" LCD.
I plan to only keep a year and upgrade but which do i go for..
I will miss upgrading like with my pc but 20" iMac looks so cool..Help,,
What do you intend to use it for?
And do you have any hardware that you want to keep which won't be usable with it?

The design is SOOO nice, and you won't have any trouble with cables all over the floor or having to keep the computer in one room and the monitor in another because of the fans in the tower G5.
Beside the limited memory and graphics card expansion, there really is a lot of products available for Firewire and USB, like harddrives and professional sound cards.
And if you're going to throw the computer away after a year, my godness!
Design! That's what make you happy. And a large screen where you can enjoy all the wonderful wallpapers and icons that the marvellous authors at this community gives birth to. You won't look at your tower every day, but you will look at your wonderful 20" screen and think: "God! It's beautiful!" :rule:

I will use for many things, from DVD authoring to VirtualPC and games, i wll probably upgrade in time for Doom3 but the only thing the iMac doesn't have, the G5 doesn't have either, a TV Card. Its a hard choice, after 19 years of PC's with Windoze but its time to commit.
I knew these were coming out today, and I checked just a few hours ago.

Maybe I'm a freak, but I want a computer to be dead silent. I've always kept my PC in another room (note! my pc is a audio workstation, so it's really quiet anyway). I think that a thing that is in your room, and powered on most of the time should not be any louder than anything else in the room. You can get head ache, tinnitus, problems with concentration and stuff if you have permanent noise in your surroundings.
I know that I'm extreme, but it's worth considering...
...it's worth the permance loss to get rid of noise. I think.
The health and wellbeing of the human who lives with the computer is most important, right?
But! I haven't actually tried an iMac, so don't take me too seriously! I have just heard that they should be very silent...
And.. if you really really need the performance of a G5, go for a G5, and if not..
..you know what I think is the best choise
I think Apple is suddenly picking up the pace of production, they've released new powerbooks, ibooks, powermacs, imacs, and ipods within months of eachother; that's speedy. I think its a marketing stratergy to solidify the growing 7% of the industry's market share that Apple holds.
