Just wanted to say I think this is a great idea 
As a sometimes linux user I always hated the fact that there weren't enough good looking themes for Gnome, KDE etc. It would be nice to see some ported over... It may even lure me back to linux eventually lol!

What I'm pondering doing is taking the gtkrc file, and putting it on a webpage, then post screenshots to go with explainations of what each piece does. I'll do up an example tomorrow night, as I think I have my plate full of website stuff to do for work tonight.

I've been contemplating changing to the glossy rc for standards sake, but have been hesitant to since i have spent countless hours bugging out mine
It is definetly a step in the right direction.

I don't have any problem making major changes to my gtkrc file, or even using
Grand_Masta's if people want to. And there's no reason this has to be a standard that
people stick to. I'm just envisioning a nice, well documented skeleton theme that
people can start hacking on right away.
What we really need is someone who is willing to slog through the gtk source tree and
figure out how all the options *really* work. There are a number of things that just do
not seem to work consistently in the gtk-pixmap theme (I know, I *should* be posting
anything I find on bugzilla!). Anyway, my gtkrc contains things that just didn't work the way I think they should. One of the biggest problems I have is figuring out how to
set styles so that they correctly affect widgets that might be sitting somewhere deep in a
hierarchy of nested widgets. For instance, my theme has a text box with rounded corners,
so the base color shows through. I'd like to use a different base color when that widget sits in a notebook page, because the notebook page is a darker color than the usual background color. The way the theme is set up it sometimes colors the background correctly, and other
times it doesn't. That's kind of annoying, especially because I can't tell when it's my theme not working correctly and when it's a gtk2 interface that has been put together in a haphazzard way.
Like i said, I'm willing to write until I'm blue in the face about how i've done the stuff in my themes, but it would really be great if someone could figure out how everything really works. I don't have the background to dive into the gtk source tree and figure everything out, but I'm sure someone here does.
