Msie Safari

Hey

Anyone got anyway to make MSIE on WinXP look more like Apple's Safari

I heard there was a bit of software that acheived it but as usual Apple threatened them with a court order and they havnt been seen since.

Apple make some fantastic software but as a company they suck!

When wil they understand that some people just need XP and its nice to have it in Aqua anyway the more I "Mac" my XP the more Im thinking about buying a iBook.

Anyway anyone know of ways to skin MSIE in safari style

why? because they dont want their hard work to be available to you as an XP user, M$ doesnt let other co's use their stuff either, get a clue

to answer your question savannah is available. Search around for it, it looks just like safari

SAvanna 0.90 by mr. aqua. Got it on my site

#76724

No....because despite their best efforts, they still hover around 5% in terms of market share.

#76727

.....but they can still churn out a beautiful piece of hardware and compelling OS! ;)

#76733

Apple Computer saw its worldwide market share drop to 2.3 percent, down from 2.7 percent a year ago, although slightly up from the 2 percent Apple had in the first quarter, according to research firm IDC.

My bad.....2.3%.

Seriously though, it's not "their hard work"

Their hard work revolves in writting the actual program. Not paying some graphic artist to make it look pretty. Their work revolves around making it responsive, not "making it look pretty"

They should realize that even the best looking XP program, isn't going to run the same as their OSX program. And if someone is emulating it, they're obviously either not the kind of person who has the money to buy their crazy over priced hardware, or B, already own their crazyily overpriced hardware.

Speak for yourself!

I can have any computer I want and I choose a PC. If I had wanted a Mac, I would have bought a Mac. I like the Mac default wallpaper and I like brushed aluminum but that's where my Mac obsession begins and ends.

#76908

EXACTLY! You hit it right on I love "Aqua" but really my love of Macs ends there to aswell. I mean I love the new iMac I could sit there all day playing with that screen :P and the mouse is stylish but the hardware and OS just dosnt suit me and therefore I aint goin to buy a Mac just because of Aqua and I cant see many other people doing the same.

I built my PC myself and I like to have full control over what goes in it!

I love XP I even love the default theme but it nice to shake up the theme now and then.

It not that they protect thier work that I mind so I dont appreciate the get a clue comment child! They can protect thier "Aqua" I dont mind in fact I would suggest they do there is alot of copyright thiefs, but all this themeing is non-profit non harmless fun I mean copying the programs is getting very close but the programs arnt available for anything but Mac anyway its thier own fault if they losing sales to other OS users.

What I do mind is thier bully tactics to sue it all out of existence, I mean now they sueing the tools that people use to make aqua themes. Whats next we dont want icon design apps as it could copy default Mac isons (then no new icons)!

That what I think anyway :banging:

#76971

what are you aren't quite grasping is the fact that Aqua is their trademark, and they feel that the GUI is what will bring more users to buy macs. If the gui as theme were available including safari themes etc, in their opinion would hurt their sales. Whether or not it is true or if you believe something different, doesnt change the fact that this is the reason why.

Look around you will find things like "the look and feel of mac osx is copyrighted yada yada yada.

And as I was saying just because you wont use a mac, doesnt mean that they should give up what they feel is their stake in the heart at winning over some more users.

And what you call "non-Harmless fun", not sure what that means, perhaps a freudian slip, but the best way to compare it is to clothes, would you spend the money on the name brand, the original creator, or the cheap knock off. Why spend the money on the more expensive thing when it is just the look you are after? In other words, why buy a mac when I can have the look on the PC.

end rant

The way I look at it is the Macintosh is like that shiny new Viper down the street, absolutely beautiful the way it rolled off the assembly line, and PCs are like the Civics people modify the crap out of. Macs may be in the minority, but the work that goes into making one is where the appeal is. Too bad we all can't afford the Vipers :P

#77294

Whats your problem with me everything I say you have to nit-pick

Cant we just have a normal talk with everyone saying thier opinion, WHy do you need to flame!

You say "doesnt change the fact that this is the reason why" if that your opinion fine but why does that make it the reason why?

If people buy Macs for the Aqua then I wud say that they wud have the money to buy both if they buy a OS which could be no good for them just because of the Aqua theme and I dont think its like clothes because your buying the more expensive for the name and I dont see Apple as a better name than Microsoft I just see WinXP as a better OS than Mac and I dont buy WinXP to say oh I could have a mac because its nothing like a Mac its just got a Aqua theme I dont want Mac I dont like the OS I prefer WinXP so no matter which way I would always use XP.

Ok I think its time to end this (can we lock this thread before it gets out of hand) lets just say "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I like Win others like Mac some like niether but that just personal taste.

#77322

anarchist, LOL, first I must apologize, I'm not flaming you, a comment here and there i dont necessarily look at flaming, but if you took it that way then I apologize.

I'm not saying which os is better or worse, that isnt the topic here. Your original post said you wanted a safari skin for IE, and were mad that apple wouldnt allow their GUI to be used for other applications and that the company sucked for this. My response was simply to point out that although to you, it seems harmless to allow windows users to use AQUA or any of their other tradmarked skins, to them, as a company it would be devastating. that is their "trademark" which nowadays makes a mac a mac.

I hope this is clear to you

#77356

Ok fair enough

I accept and agree that Aqua is thier trademark and should rightly so copyright it.

My reason for "hating" Apple is this bully tactic of sueing everything out of existence that even remotley looks like Aqua and now sueing the makers of the Apps that create theme etc.

I mean a bit of artistic freedom isnt harmful to them, I would never use a program that copied the exact workings of a Mac app as that is wrong I would only use a legally bought version but that dosnt exists for XP but many fine apps do, Its just that when it comes to a OS I wudnt mind a Macish theme but to Apple they see this as Im a Mac customer stolen by Microsoft and "Themeing" but Im not Ive used Windows all my life I love it and wudnt consider switching completly ever!

Anyway we all had our say Ive found Savanna like people suggested but thought it was a very poor program so Im trying the skin for Mozilla Firebird

Although I still cant get the Saf theme to install

RealityBath suggested this

if your using an outdated compact menu extension, and its enabled, it'll prevent you from using lynchknot's saf themes. get the updated one(i can't remember where to get it, they may have

updated the extensions page one, or there might be a link to the author's homepage on the extensions page).

a workaround is to take the cmenu button off your browser, disable it in options, and then apply the theme. reenable cmenu and your set.

But it hasnt worked anyone any clues?

Cheers

Anarchi5t.....I'm with ya' Bro. I like to change my visual styles from time to time as well. When XP was first released, I loved the default visual style. Now I'm into the blues/brushed aluminum look that seems to be common with Macs. Tommorrow.....who knows? As far as I'm concerned, that's part of the beauty of XP.....the ability to customize it and make it whatever you want it to be.

the fact that Aqua is their trademark

Huh? Aqua is a color, Bro. How can someone trademark or copywrite a color? Same goes for brushed aluminum.

Macintosh is like that shiny new Viper down the street, absolutely beautiful the way it rolled off the assembly line, and PCs are like the Civics people modify the crap out of

Huh? . Can we once and for all dispel the myth that the only people who don't own Macs are those who can't afford them? Let me be perfectly blunt .....I make a strong 6 figures a year and I can buy just about any computer I want and I choose to own a PC. Heck....I paid almost 6 grand for my current PC!

I have noticed an abundance of people who proclaim the wonders of Macs but don't own one! My advice to these people? Buy a Mac then come back and tell us what you think about them.

#77388

I didn't mean to say Macs are only for people who can afford them, just that Macs are not really tinkered with and most people like them the way they come, and that PCs are usually modded, at least by this community. Just a bad analogy. This post should really be locked anyway because we keep getting off topic :P

A bit further off topic - sorry!

The latest version (0.7) of Mozilla Firebird should be able to intall the saf themes off Lynchknot's site - you may need to restart the browser for them to take effect. I've used a couple of them, and some are compatible, and some are not (e.g. saf09, saf nbbr etc)....keep tryin' different ones!

In terms of good browsers, I prefer MYIE2 (www.myie2.com)....it's a sort of "skin" for IE (therefore has the M$ security flaws!), but you get all the good features of tabbed browsing, mouse gestures, popup blocking and a GREAT feature called super drag & drop, which........this feature (you'll see why when you get used to it!), is the main reason I use MYIE2 over Mozilla (which I also like), Opera etc. It's also a snappy performer (my impressions compared with others).

....oh, and there's also a Safari skin available for MYIE2, but it's not quite as nice as the one for Mozialla Firebird.

Happy surfing & skinning!

sultanoswing how is that off topic its what I asked in the first place. lol thanks anyway Ill keep trying but I want Saf09 I heard its a good one but none of the Saf themes work!

[LOF]skinnylegs I am with you I wonder how someone can copyright a colour but I guess they would claim its more the style of how the colour is used but it does go abit far I mean soon its gonna be like music so many songs (colours in this case) have been copyrighted that its just getting impossible to find something new which would probably explain the state of the UK charts today :P

And again yeah I agree with [LOF]skinnylegs I spent over2 grand on my PC and Ive modded the hell out of it, its way better than any Mac I could find. I like the way you can build a PC to your exact specs, for me a Mac is just too restricting.

Photo678 you are right they have trademarked Aqua and look at the length of that list Apples lawyers are known for thier copyrights, Id love to know what the limits are to the Aqua copyright.

Anyway getting back on topic anyone know a decent Safari skin for Mozilla Firebrid 0.7 Im almost at the end of this tutorial and so far Ive got a browser that thinks it Safari but looks nothing like it lol
