The advert is ever so slightly exaggerated don't you think?

And IMHO it serves the elitist crApple (that is pronounced Krapple) geeks right for gloating for over a month about how big & fast THEIR G5 is! (not that any of their penny broken asses could realistically afford one  ) What a slap in the face! As Nelson Munce would say (The Simpsons):

Ha Ha :lol::lol:

Another Brit here (with only a small amount of patriotim - I want to move to the US. It agrees with me more :D ) and what I don't get is why its not ok for apple to say they have the fastest PC ever, but it is ok for ISPs like BT to have people saying with their broadband packages you can watch streaming internet video in realtime.... which is definitely a lie because even on a 1m connection you can't watch a 320x240 video streaming in realtime :P

The UK is run by over zealous, power crazy idiots who need to wake up to the real world. And our justice system sucks.

I thought that "overzealous", "power crazy" and "idiot" were three synonyms for "politician" >.<

As for our justice system, I prefer "innocent until proven guilty" to "guilty, regardless of proof", like some countries have...

I'd say I'm not keen on the UK, but, to be honest, I don't really like anywhere that much <_<

Tadis gets a cookie for using "Crapple".

muahahaha!! yeah!

fear me!

*waving my hammer preparing to strike upon thee*

Your opinion is wrong, cause its completely false. You mix 64 bit computer servers with 64 bit desktop computers. Apple is the first to do desktop computers. period.

and again, i think its a shame they banned it.

If apple said " first 64bit machine ever" then i'd understand. Damnit AMD geeks!

#76628

if the g5 is a desktop computer, then so is an opteron workstation.

similar in price, and their both 64 bit computers.

both get used as workstations.

You might say that the G5 is a personal computer Goku, but a mainframe could be a personal computer, that just depends on how rich you are.

apart from that, I thought it was a really boring advert anyway :P

#76642

Here's the problem, WHO came up with the definition for "desktop computer"? APPLE did. That's not really fair, now is it?

I use an ALPHA machine as a desktop, but it doesnt make it so.

The fact is that EVERY thing Apple did has been done before. the G5 is not a unique processor.

Apple can create whatever rules it wants, but at the end of the day, its not a special processor.

On a serious note, the decision to ban the Advertisement was not taken by any political body but rather the ITC (Independent Television Commission), whose sole purpose is to investigate claims that are made by advertisers. This is to ensure and maintain a certain level of quality and appropriateness in TV advertising.

And believe me (being of a legal persuasion myself), a decision to ban an advert would only have been taken if the claims could be proved to a substantial standard (if for nothing else, the prospect of legal action against a body that is already being edged out of existence by an industry that is stripping itself of red tape faster than a cheap street-walker).

Basically, what I'm trying to say is that it must have hurt when the ITC ruled:

Due to the technical nature of the advertiser's response, the ITC asked the BACC to refer the complaints and the response to the BACC's expert. He found that the claim was not supported by independent reviews and that at best "the G5 was generally as fast as the best Intel-based workstations currently available".
