The Future Of Computer Technology.

Hmm... I was kind of curious of what you guys think will happen to the world. We are becomming technologically advanced every single day. What do you think the future will be like, whether it be 1 month or 100 years, or in between.

It doesnt have to be about computer speed, like it can be about hardrives, how big a hardrive we will have in the future? and stuff like that.

This is what i think will be in the next 10 years:

Computers will become smaller. Their will be no more dialup connections. Phones may use another form or be wireless. All monitors will be flat panel and or some kind of think paper like material. Computers will probably be one fifth the size they are now. CD drives will be the next floppy disc drive. Smaller forms of media are presented, which can store an exponential amount of data that cd/dvds stored. Their will be a new video format, and divx will be even compressed with new compression technology. The media Companies will come to realize that they cannot prevent piracy and so they act as if they do not know of it. Piracy will be 10 times of what it is today. Many software companies go bankrupt. Their is a new OS for all home / normal computers. Microsoft is declining in sales. Apple is also slowly declining.

The average hardrive will probaly be 500gb to 2 tb. CD writing technology will have changed, and a cd will be burnt in a totally different manner. There will be no more floppy disc.

Thats about it mostly, so what do you think?

Well... I'm not very sure about the Flat Panels thing, at least here in Mexico I'm sure that a lot of people will be using CRT's for a long long time

Floppies will go out much sooner than 10 years. I cant remember the last time i used a floppy. CDrs are so cheap. I think CD/DVD disc format will be here for a while. Blue Laser discs will be out in USA in about 3 years and they are DVDs that hold 30 + GB (the DVD is still going). I agree with hard drive size, 1 TB will probobly be common. the 17in monitor will be unthinkable. USB will be obsolete. IDE (what is this) it will be Serial ATA all the way. Video Games will be photo realistic and have at least 170FPS. and last:

The government will have complete control,we will have NO freedom and big brother WILL be watching (at least in the states).

I didnt want to mention the government part, but yes. It is so true. The government conspiracy, and all that. I think i am going to move out of the states and move in with canada =] when im older that is, unless the government still stays outta our business.. which will probbably never happen..

BTW, what is this blue lazer technology?

As long as they don't bring broadband to rural areas then dial-up will still be around.

I seriously dont know what to expect.. think about graphics wise.......how well computer graphics will be.. and real time graphics looking SUPER SMOOTH like movie renderd like... that would be amazing to see what graphics come out in the future.....

Why is it taking such a long time for broadband to spread across the country south of the border? Here in Canada, we've had broadband almost everywhere there is cable tv for over 6 years. My brother in Vernon BC got shaw@home 4 years ago IIRC. Heck they have broadband in Northern BC in Prince George.

I guess we Canadians don't have it so bad.

a few months ago I read about that blue laser technology and one of my friends heard that japan will be using it within this year or next year and yeah...we will have to wait here in the US. And what you talking about gfx wise?? I think by ten years most computer games and console games if consoles are still around will be in complete 3D. I saw this one website sell some head set virtual reality glasses for $998 and that is about the cheapest price for a computer 5 years ago and those comps can hardly be sold for $200 if real lucky. Also technology in the 3D department has been getting a lot of boosts lately and a new technology has made making REAL 3D monitors display 3D holographic images off of a monitor and it can switch back to normal 2D. The ford company uses 3D holographic images to show their concept models and I think some place in Austin, Tx makes it for them. Also hard drives I doubt will be on anything like record discs, probably more like holographic memory, 3D storage =). I agree that the CD will become the next floppy drive. I am willing to think that instead of using Cd's we'll be storing everything on like microchips that hold a hell of a lot of data.

Pocket PCs will be so thin and flexible that it wraps around the wrist and replaces the wristwatch. flicking the wrist will switch the backlight on and off. It will also run on micro-rechargeable batteries that constantly recharges as you walk. You seldom have to use a stylus because it recognizes your voice commands and dictation 99.99% accurately. No wires for headphones or speakers because the built-in soundbug technology directly transfers the sound through your skin into your hearing nerves. extra storage drives are in colorful wristband add-ons. And if you need to type, just type on any surface with your fingers and the muscle movements will be detected by the wrist PDA.

Pocket PC OS would be totally skinnable and ObjectDock will run very well on it including that elusive Genie effect.

Okay maybe that's a few decades away.

Hmm.. I dont think that laptops should become like very very small UNLESS their screens can be unfolded to make them bigger and stuff. I think a laptop the size of a standard 100page notebook would be good.

the way i see the way technology is going eventually you will be able to recieve any sort of data anytime anywhere on any device.......so incredably fast if you blink it will be there

I think that computers will all but completely lose their boxy form. The large desktops will be integrated into the keyboard because keyboards have yet to go completely out of style. Monitors will be replaced with some type of air matte so all you need is a little projector that points up, suspending the display in a semi-spaceless area at ergonomic viewing height. Pointers will be replaced by a device that uses the entire hand to grasp objects on the screen to move them. Basically everything will be smaller and trendier. I would like to see it all be integrated at some point in time. China will economically become the Next US and the US will not be a world power. I'm not in great support of it, but you consider some of the last world powers were Rome, the UK, and Germany. It's gotta end sooner or later. Some guy will figure out how to integrate portable technology into our bodies, and the amount of pollution and energy consumption will be unimaginable.

I would personally like to see technology become a little "smarter" with things like fuzzy logic systems, voice activation, cleaner energy sources and energy use, and green architecture. But little of this will happen probably.

I agree on the broadband point, but I believe its a difference of culture than a problem with technology.

After visiting the states a few times from Canada here to get my dual citizenship I've noticed big differences in the way people do things.

In Canada, services are often provided by one large organization or company. Take Ontario for example.

You need a perscription? Shoppers Drug Mart

Need Cable? Rogers

Renting a movie? Blockbuster or Rogers Video

Coffee? Tim Hortons

Movie Theater? Famous Players

Electronics? Future Shop

Books? Chapters

Telephone? Bell

Some of these companies I've listed are also the only place to get these things. In the case of Rogers, they own almost the entire cable market.

In the states, I find things are more competitive, if you need some of these things theres almost 10 or 20 different stores that offer it.

The reason we have had broadband for so many years (I was a beta tester for rogers high speed) is that rogers simply decided it was time for high speed internet, so they implemented it.

Bell of course saw some money to be made so they implemented cheap DSL.

Basically, becuase of the almost monopoly nature of some companies in Canada, the implementation of broadband was as easy as pie for Rogers and Bell.

Thats why Canada has had broadband everywhere for the last few years while the states is still rushing to catch up.

*lol* Desktops integrated into Keyboards.. that would be neat, but Commodore pretty much beat anyone to it.

The commodore 64 I have at home is just that - a keyboard attached to a Television screen, completely functional as just that to (programs load from cartridges stuck in a slot in the keyboard, you plug your joysticks into the keyboard too.)

Mind you, the 5.25" floppy drive's an add-on.

Actually, it is the other way around when it comes to things such as broadband. Economies of scale kick in when you have larger companies investing in larger capital expenditures.

I've noticed that there was were promises of lower prices and more services when they deregulated the telecom industry to allow competion on "equal footing" with the original players. The promises turned out to be a lie for the most part. I now pay more for local services and savings on long distance are virtually a wash.

Actually, that's already here except with Palms. Fossil is about to release the next generation of their WristPDA watch and this time it's a full fledged Palm that can run any program the big clunky one you keep in your pocket can.

I don't see the Pocket PC OS lasting too much longer. In the near future it's going to be pushed out by either PalmOS or whatever the current desktop version of Windows is. PalmOS is easier to use and has much much much more software. The desktop version of Windows has a chance of killing the Pocket PC OS because portable devices are starting to become powerful enough that they don't need a trimmed down OS. I saw a news item the other day on a device the size of a deck of cards that had a 1ghz proc and ran Windows XP.

A question that must be asked is "Do we need this?" I am sure some of this may have some good effect on society, but will it allow us to have world peace, help us to find a cure for cancer, or just entice us to throw more money at the technology market every time something new comes out?

We all know that most software is becoming chunkier without doing much more than it did five years ago, I know for fact that Oracle has hit the all-time low of actually sending extra packages that don't carry any useful information, why? So we can spend more money on cat6 networking and 1000mbps ethernet and fiber.

I am not completely anti-technology, but a line has to be drawn somewhere.
