I have downloaded winamp 5 and it's great! Less CPU n memory usage + winamp 3 skins, cool!
I'm tempted to d/l iTunes but heard ppl complaining of memory usage and other stuffs.. what do u guys think?
(Considering I'm not really a MAC-GeeK like u guyz heh-heh, so be objective, plz)
well im not a mac geek either. when i was download itunes i wasnt exited at all. but trust me after i installed it n started using it, i couldnt stop singing n jumpin up n down.
its my default player now. i didnt think it replace my wmp.
i havent tried wmp 5 but i can say for sure that itunes is better than w5 for me anyday 
Winamp 5 ROCKS :own: I haven't tried iTunes though as I suppose its music quality might be lower and I hate memory eating softwares! >.
there have been only a few ppl complaining abt the memory hog. i heard abt it too before downloading it, but still downloaded it to see how much it takes up on my system. well atm its only taking 10 MB 
if it was a resource hog, i wud have stopped using it too coz i got only 128 mb ram
I'd say winamp 5, faster and more features than itunes. Itunes is only good at prettying my desktop.
If you want speed, and simplicity, then definitely Winamp 5.
If you want tons of features, library management, smart playlists, cd burning and ripping support built in (yes I know you can add those to Winamp 5 with plugins), then iTunes is for you.
Oh and lets not forget to mention the iTunes Store, although it personally only has a few artists I really care about on it.
Well, I used all realone, wmp and winamp but itunes is the best (my openion) looks good great features !! have a 733 PIII with 320 ram andd dont suffer any problems with it or other progs while running it !! (Y) its like it says in the add at the apple site .. hehehe the best program on windows !!
I've been using winamp 5 for a month or so now and its pretty much the same as winamp 2. I kinda like the new modern skin in the new beta. Hasn't crashed on me yet either and it uses 8MB RAM and 0.5% CPU power with a 4500 song playlist.
iTunes on the other hand... I Didn't really look so much at it mainly because it uses 48MB RAM and locks up when i try to add my MP3 dir to it. The RAM usage is insane. I don't really see why a MP3 player would need even 8MB's of RAM =P
For me its winamp 5 all the way.
Definitely Winamp5. I'm actually planning on popping for the Pro version when it's released. Ripping and burning integrated, and since I happened to stumble upon the plugin to rip straight to Vorbis, I'm set...as soon as I get the Pro version and can rip at an uncrippled speed.

I think you have to look at this way: iTunes stores every single piece of info from an mp3 all into memory. It doesn't load them as it gets to them (Winamp does this if you watch playlists load and such). This takes up more memory. Add in all the features and visualizations and it can get pretty hefty. I agree that a program shouldn't use up that much memory, but when its handling so many files at once on the fly it is pretty acceptable. It could be better but unless you have only 256megs of ram there really isn't much to complain about.
I can not see what the difference between itune and realoneplayer,anyway, I am now using realoneplayer, I am quite satisfied with it, and i can not figure out any reason to change realoneplayer to itune, moreover, i found that itune consume about 2 times of memory than realoneplayer.

Real Player is the NUMBER ONE memory hog out there. Bar none. Do a little searching in your MSCONFIG and you will see what i mean.
As for the benefits...
Does RealPlayer let you buy music with a single click?
Doe it have GOOD visuals?
Does it encode in AAC?
Does it have a file browser built in which also catagorizes your music?
Does it let you burn playlists?
Does it have a radio feature built in which looks for active statons FOR you?
Does it have a 10 band EQ?
Does it have Audio enhancement?
Does it equalize the volume on all of your tracks making them all the same volume?
the list goes on and on
Winner: iTunes
Oh, and dont get me started on that clumsy and overcrowded interface

Oh and about the memory hogging double as realone (which firstly sounds C A RAAAAZY) you might want to uncheck sound enhancer and volume normalizer in itunes.... specially if you have a lot of songs

I will prolly change from 2.95 to 5 when and only when there is a decent mac looking skin for it.... do you guys know if i can still use my 2.95 skins?

ya you cane use your skins from the older versions
iTunes memory and cpu usage is dependant on individual system.
It took less then 9 mb of ram with 08- 14 % of cpu power, That's for 602 songs, 1.4 days playing time, 2.82 gb of songs.
How iTunes behave is really up to individual system, I would say that iTunes is pretty nimble which holds basic infors with extras like Ratings, individual songs eq presets and others.
Plus the fact that Winamp series only support English language, it makes Asians who listen to Japanese or Korean songs a hassle since it doesn't supports other unicodes.
Though slim and mean is winamp 5, but I think iTunes works better for me and majority of us in A-S.
Ermm, Duckie, I think you should calm down alittle. Prolly, that you are all stressed up reading all iTunes posts and having to remind users to post it in the correct forums.
Realone is a real mem hog. Please press 'ctrl + alt + Del' keys on your keyboard to see your realone in action, under the processes tab.

my two cents on this issue:
putting the system resource issue aside for a moment, every one of us expects something different from his/her media player. Some of us are perfectly fine with back/forwards/play/stop/pause, others just wants things set in a playlist, others want integrated equalizers and some of us want radio tuning, CD ripping/burning, and MP3 player synchronization.
If someone favors a certain media player over another, there's probably a reason, regardless of how valid any one of us think it is. It all comes down to the needs we have from our digital music player, and how functional it is FOR US.
I personally dislike realone, I only use it to play it's designated files, and that's the end of it. I don't get along with it's interface and would much rather use BS player for video and iTunes seems to go well with me as far as audio is concerned. But that's me, and I'm just one person. We all have different expectations and needs.
