Are the rumor's true????

Ahh, good to be back :)

but, moby said to me recently that in 2 weeks he will *try* to release the dock. No more rumors. ;)

Ah, and He's going to try and work with DX9 and see how that goes. If all goes well, no cpu would be used, and a super clean dock will be running :)

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me or moby (or possibly bolero) as we get info on a regular basis.

Hmm, new forum :)

I like to see a new update to Mobydock as soon as possible but putting much function on DX9 I think is a bad strategy. Upgrades from DirectX 7 to 8 did not go smoothly for many and the same will be true of DX9. Some will claim it's the best thing that came after sliced bread and many will find bugs and incompatibilities everywhere. DirectX9 is in beta and regardless when it will be out of beta, it will still be in beta for 6months after.

I think a more sound strategy will be to develop Mobydock with features that are compatible with DX8 and after DX9 provides large compatibility then look at those features that can only be achieved by DX9.

couldn't have said it better myself VideoMann. I hope moby will get a genie effect working but I wonder can he do it in DX9 without the cpu?

#1089

Why genie? Thats last on his list. I'd rather see more important features like program support and icon bouncing.

Besides, WFX2 can substitute the genie for now.

(I want it as much as you do, but, still not nessicary until the dock proves flawless)

Moby said his dock runs smother than ever, but we will see. Its gonna be quite hard to beat Yz's magnification effect, as it is almost identical, in my opinion.

Oh, and DX9. You cant really compare the difference between DX7 and DX8. DX8 was a application for the sake of one.

Just like windows ME. It was just a way to get us (M$) more money for advertising for XP.

O well. :)

bill, you never told me if you liked India's 8-foot gift lol

Hi,

the reason for dx9 is that it hopefully (only rumors) adds features i need to develop a hardware-accelerated mobydock. i tested it with dx7 and 8, but, as opengl, they do not provide a fast method to transfer data from video-framebuffer to system-memory and that's what i need. so, dx9 is the only hope. with LONGHORN on the way, MS will add hardware-acceleration to standard gdi, but that is far away.

LOL....you think all we do here in India is sell sofas????

Especially not for a fat-ass like Bill Gates...

So he came here...big deal...wish Steve Jobs would though

(Actually I'm just pissed at Bill coz when he was giving the conference here in Bombay at the Oberoi, I was wearing an Apple T-shirt and he asked the guards to kick me out!!! :D:D )

I was wondering about the "Show Running Processes" and "Show Taskbar" options. What is the difference between them, and does anyone know whay the applications that are running do not show in the dock? Only windows explorer shows up in there, so far.

#1181

Running applications will not show in the dock coz, this is not the 'real' dock.....Moby (the author) will add this functionality into his dock as soon as he can...

(Edit : Sorry moby :))

hey Siddharth, wrong forum ??

1. 'show taskbar' is simply to hide / show the taskbar

2. 'show running processes' is for this little snapshot-icons of explorer and ie instances.

3. i will add functionality for all running apps later !

Keep up the good work, Moby. Your work is appreciated and welcome here.

#1210

thanks moby :)

#1213

Absolutely. !!!! People always appreciate good work and goodwill.

There's no reason why 2 or more paintings cannot be appreciated.

#1215

Thank you a world, Moby. I now understand. With all the eye candy in this version I can wait for the new stuff. Take your time.

P.S. I know you have read this commnet before, but here goes again. "Awesome app., keep the functional eye candy comming"

Anyway, DX9 is in RC form now ;). There are already DX9 demo's out from ATI, and they do look amazing on this R9700 here. Anyway, DX9 isnt that far off ;)!

I hope Moby DOES use DX9 in his next build fully!

If you want DX8 support Y'z hasn't made any mention of a switchover to DX9 (so far) so let that be your dock of choice. Mobydock seems to have ambitions of really pushing the GUI of XP and if DX9 makes for more features and/or stability I for one am happy Moby is willing to take the time to play around with a RC version. Many programmers would not consider trying this approach in favor of working in an enviroment they feel cozy in.

In all honesty, If Moby is able to accomplish what he is setting out for, I will probably replace the explorer shell with Mobydock and Objectbar.

Like everyone else has said, take your time Moby...I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

#1253

Yeah moby..but I'll need to check the CPU usage of each dock to see which one runs better.....I do not have a powerful system so CPU usage is an issue for me....and with Y'z 0.31 well I think that's the least CPU utilization you can get.

I understand that you're mag effect eats more CPU cycles (and looks cooler albeit inaccurate) but I need to use my system to work and functionality is as important as the look of the dock...

hi,

i will do my best.

BTW, Y'z Dock does not use DirectX at all !

moby

#1326

O....

:D

Of course it doesn't...well there you have it...I'm sure we can count on Y'z not going to DX9 anytime soon then!

one other thing Moby if your still out there... Mr. Y has apparently said he would not ever incorperate the genie effect into his dock...do you share his view or will you possibly put in transition effects later down the road?

just curious on your stance.

Since we all post our desires about the next dock in this group, here's mine:

Is it easy to have multilingual support for the font being used?

I don't mind having all my icon labels in english but date (clock label) is written in greek and doesn't display correctly with Arial font.

Minor bug, won't keep me from hovering over mobydock :)

#1349

Wow! This is great new news! I am such a huge fan of this dock. Keep up the great work Moby.

ps. are these forums where you will release the next version or is there a homepage site for you?

pps. do you need laptop beta testers ;), Im ready!

It's a nice thought but very doubtful. Y's dock is optimized for WindowsXP. Mobydock can run in Windows98. Mr. Yamaguchi does not speak English, and Moby doesn't speak Japanese.

Mr. Yamaguchi has done other programs and I'm not even sure if he had ever collaborated with anybody. It just does not seem likely at all. Like painters programmers also have their own ideas and have a particular way of expressing that through code. The fact that he only allows Marvilla to be his spokeperson to the English world is just another characteristic of not being open for a collaborative work. This is just my thought. :(
