certain things that have kept me in a dual boot land that was sadly more windows than linux are quickly going away. two of the biggies with this new slack version (it might actually be that gnome does these things, ive always used kde in the past) but pressing the scroll button on my laptop actually works, and when i click on the address bar, it highlights the address in there. simple things, but little bit of ergonomics like that are really important.
now to get a media player im happy with, i have everything else i really need. this or rhythmbox might be the trick.
btw, contra, any really good skins for rhythmbox???

Slave, yes, but because of these huge skinning abilities. And simplicity of doing it.

Someone get him a screenshot of it while using different GTK theme. I am too lazy to compile it. Rhythmbox seems better. I'll check it out sometime though. What i'd like to see is either Rhythmbox or this thing support album art.

Linux (+Qt/Gtk) has exactly the same skinning abilities as Windows.. just have to know how to do it
And the simplicity of doing it.. well.. that could change quite soon.
(and yeah I know, the UI is in heavy flux, it sucks, it's bad, it's no good and it's ugly, but hey that's why it's a work in progress :canadian:)
looks good, surprisingly similar to the way iTunes looks.

yeah,GStreamer sucks. It really does, no way around it. Thats why I always compile Rhythmbox with XINE instead of GStreamer.
Its just too buggy.
Yeah, I really hope Gstreamer matures soon. It's going to be awhile, but once its stable and complete, it will be a great thing. Actually, it's already a great thing when it works. It even works most the time for me, but then every now and then the registry will stop working for some reason and I have to rerun the gstreamer-register to fix it.
And yes, Rhythmbox with XINE is really the way to go. I think it should come like that by default until Gstreamer matures more, or at least have seperate binary packages for it.
got it to compile.. just to get a nice SegFault when trying to run it. There are rpm available at the download location.here is the download directory
Hmm. Can anyone tell me how to compile Rhythmbox with XINE support? I can't find mention of how anywhere... :nuts: (This is using 0.5.3, BTW.)
On a different note (hence me not going back and editing the previous post), I JUST tried the Jamboree RPM, and it loads okay, but it throws up an error about not being able to load the MP3 decoder. (OGG works just fine...)
i second the request for info on compiling with xine support. right now i have a working install of xine, so i think it would be easy. after a little bit of hacking around, i do have rhythmbox running with gstreamer now though.
