@All:

I've been saying this since I first started making Panther visual styles (remember s3d, a mod of the first ever Panther theme, by Susumu?)

And I'll say it again:

When I released s3d I said: Do not consider this theme mine, lets ALL work on it to make it the best panter theme out there.

I do my best to make the details look like Panther, but I am not an expert themer.

As I said to Ja450n in a private message 2 days ago, he is the expert in this field, he knows 5x what I do about theming, I am just learning as I go along.

I value everyones opinion very much, as long as it is constructive, not destructive.

And I, and I think everyone else, would really welcome any advice on how to FIX problems.

Also Matthias has proposed using 20, 20, 20 as the font depth, to not make the fonts so black, so I will try that.

@Ja450n:

Your using 1152x864 ? Now I'm beginning to understand, I'm on a laptop I cannot select anything other than 1024 and 800.

@Ercan (Aqua Soft'a hos geldin):

I do not have Mozilla, so I'll need to see about this, but as of now I have NO idea of what is causing this. I do know that in order to keep the Panther tabs (all the same size) I made the active Tab 4 pixels smaller on all sides (because Windows automatically makes the active Tab 4 pixels bigger), as per Ja450n's kind advice last week.

I can compare with a theme that you know DOES work with Mozilla, can you name me one, so that I can attempt to dissect it and see if I can learn anything?

@F Joker:

That is not a problem at your end, it is the theme. There are 2 progress bars in Windows;

a.) The progress bar for copying/deleting etc.

b.) The little progress bar on the bottom of Internet Explorer windows

If I make the progressbar at the bottom of IE fill the space (15 pixels I believe) then the other (a.) progress bar only takes the first 4 rows of the progress bar image (progresschunk) and stretches it, so that we do not get the fullcolouring.

If I make the more commonly used progress bar look like it should, then the progress bar that you mention is only drawn using it's first 9 pixel rows.

I chose the second option. If anyone knows how to fix this please say so.

I tried the 20 20 20, and didn't like it.. give it a shot it may look better... for this theme tho, but in my opinion its too light...too grey

im gonna post a big screener with various progress bars....

screenshot-5898.png

i think the trick is in choosing (or designing) an accurate progresschunk.bmp... i muddled with mine for quite a while...then chose to tile it.. i think with the right settings you COULD be able to get away with STRETCHING the progress chunk.. as per icemans scroll bars in his theme.. I think it was his that didn't have those smooth scroll bars and it was all in the size settings he chose to stretch that bmp.

i found that also that registry setting for hldgl (something like that i don't remember what it is and hldgl2) selection for windows default fonts for displaying menu font and button fonts (ok)(cancel)(apply) ALSO affects the button sizes.. so dependign on what font you beta'd the stylebuild on will be accurate.. if you move it to something with a diff default font there will be subtle differences...

is it me, or are jason's screeners without that cleartype setting on?

cheers gentlemen.

I got it!

I found out how to make the taskbar font shadowed WITHOUT doing it globally and screwing up small fonts, screwing up outlook new messages and screwing up the tabs by making them SO dark.

OK, do not put shadows in Global.

Text colour and shadow settings for the "All Programs" menu's in the start button go here (at the "<--------")

<---------

Text colour and shadow settings for the "Taskbar" fonts go here (at the "<--------")

<---------

I found that 20, 20, 20 is still too dark, I checked extensively against screenshots of panther given to me by Goku, the best settings, IMO are 55, 55, 55 for active and 140, 140, 140 for inactive.

I.e.

<--------------

:) Taskbar IS shadowed clock is NOT.

#56126

I say 55 55 55 but I am on a laptop, ie LCD, darkness changes when I look at the screen from different heights, 55 55 55 was my best guess with the hardware I've got.

screenshot-5976.png

Trueno see wha I mean with the clock, where was the part in the xml concerning the clock?

Matthias how are the fonts, shadows and the shade of grey? I cant tell its driving me mad..

#56132

3 drives haha you are a joker! :lol:

great progress dude!! and yah definately opposite!

the clock should be near the very end of the xml.. page up a few times you should see it.. if not then i will rip the code out of my xml and you can add it to yours.. should work no prob.. just edit->find and look for clock.. its in the systray tags i think..

but yah, im using a dell right now with a brand new LCD and the fonts are too light dude!! they look grey!.. you need a higher contrast ratio screen dude!!!

but this is some serious news!! this is REVELUTIONARY!!

SEE WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE WORK AS A TEAM!!!! :surfer dude:

3drives :who's your daddy: ownz

#56136

btw, see if you can use that setting you have now and stick it in for the tabs as well.. adjust the 20 20 20 or 55 55 55 or 120 120 120 where need be.. im sure it can be done also

join me in the quest to put an end to LucidaMac!!!! :order:

Ja450n, I like your x-port very much as well. May I humbly aks you to share your knowlege about scrollbar and stuff, so that we can have more and more 1:1 themes.

We're all on the same side, standing on Helm's deep walls.

Whatever.

Bye

why should there be more than one 1:1 skin??

(just never made sense to me)

kol's skin is, self-admited, not a 1:1 skin..

so.. kol's panther, is not 1:1 panther..

this skin is not 1:1 panther

nor is X-Port 1:1 panther..

it's windows..

i'd love to see a 1:1 theme..

but, i think it's going to require someone making a completely new theme. before we see one..

BTW

@Three Drives

i don't know from your post, if you are Trying to add shadows to the taskbar and clock. but. if you are.. i thought i should tell you.. that there are no shadows in Panther on the finderbar / clock

@Three Drives

that there are no shadows in Panther on the finderbar / clock

I know this, the reason we are trying to put shadows on these places is to make the Fonts look more like the Panther fonts, not for the sake of having shadows.

Consider it like turning on "cleartype" to make your fonts look more like OSX fonts. This is the same thing, the shadows wont actually be visible, they will just smooth the fonts out (ala Iceman, where o where is he)

As neither Lucida Grande, LucidaGrande, AquaBase, and LucidaMac, when used in their bare bones format are satisfactory.

See the difference, the clock is NOT shadowed, the Taskbar is:

Ok I tried 40 40 40 and it seems to work, I made a comparison shot here.

The first pic is a real Mac showing panther, the second is also a real mac, but has been photoshopped to show pc fonts.

Mac titlebar & tab fonts:

Pc titlebar & tab fonts:

screenshot-5975.png

What do you think, still too light? Too dark? Or about right?

Trueno92, for the tabs , and only for the tabs, nothing better than LucidaMac exists, I tried everything, but this is almost perfect. Do you know of something I don't?

10pt looks better as what you have there, but to all those PURISTS that ARE STILL ON WINXP, then 9pt MAY BE MORE ACCURATE...

whatever, have a cow man........

try the same font at 9pt for tabs...

PS: None of the updates in this page have been uploaded yet, they will be soon

To quote Matthias:

"WHOOOHOOO"

Thanks to Matthias' (renowed iTunes skin creator) input, Thanks Matthias!!!!!!

#56184

(Y) Man... it´s keeping better and better by minute...

I can´t wait for the final version of my new favorite skin. :D

#56207

Awesome work guys, can't wait for the updates :own:

#56218

Oh yes, and now no more ugly white lines in Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer windows, thank you AGAIN Matthias!!!!!

Ugly white lines:

screenshot-5967.png

Are now gone:

screenshot-5968.png

This theme is now called TDK Panther 4.0, and will be uploaded to devART soon!

#56219

Can't Wait!!

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

:)

#56221

Goddamn, I can see real proffesionals at work!

Or maybe maniacs? :lol::lol:

I love your work despite the fact I don't need 1000% accurate vs. All want is beautiful vs and everybody knows that OSX vs is the most beautiful thing in the world, so.....I can't wait for the release!

(Hope that large-fonts issue is past)

Thanks a lot for your hard work guys :bow: :bow:

#56234

outlook_fonts.jpg

I installed all the fonts from every update...but can I make the "folders" list text bigger? The text is a little small all the way around. Especially for dual 19" displays at 1600x1200.

#56316

PCalmer, I will look into it.

Ok what I have so far is as follows. In the picture below, the top right corner is a screenshot of a real 10.3 mac, positioned so that elements of TDK 4.0 can be compared to Panther.

The red dots indicate screenies of real Mac 10.3 Panther for comparison.

Please note that the text in the "All Programs" menu's cannot be made bigger as the bar itself is too narrow to properly display the mac sized text. This is as large as it will get without distorting. Same with the dialog buttons, mac dialog button font is 0.5 size larger, but so are mac buttons, because the windows buttons are smaller, so is the font, in order to keep the balance.

Tabs (Trueno, size 10 didn't work) I reckon are perfect.

Also AquaBase font is added and used extensively, this theme now uses 5 different fonts.

What you cannot see in this shot is the active captionbar font, it is now truly awesome, exactly 1:1.

Problem is all older TDK themes had a blue and a graphite colour subset, if I update those aswell it will take me another few days to a week. But if I remove them I could release this tomorrow. I think I'll do that.

Anyhow, please tell me what you guys think.

(Excuse the large image but it is neccesary to show details)

#56361

looks el-supremo, dudes..

how did you guys get the buttons to be spaced properly? i was looking at the code in jasons theme and couldn't get it to work..

shoot me a pm when you get a chance, thanks much~!

#56369

@ThreeDrives

It is ok, if you release it without blue and graphit version.

WE WANNA SEE IT! :own: :-)

#56382

PCalmer, I will look into it.

I'd really appreciate it. I tried chaning every font size in the appearance tab and it still didn't change it. The fonts are really small in the contact window of trillian now too :(
