Loco released!

GuiKit2dlta can convert guikit to .dlta files:

http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/GuiKit2dlta.shtml

As of reading .dlta files in Windows, I'm still trying to figure out what dlta is...

Edit: I found this tool, hope it helps (if .dlta file's full name is In-Delta):

@ Levi, I think it should be easier to create themes on Windows (specifically in SkinStudio) As all you have to do is import the pictures or the mssyle.

After reading some things about dlta, I have a feeling that you can open the dlta files to get the .tiff files inside. If so, can't you just import the .tiff to SkinStudio? (I think)

sorry xiang, but guikit2dlta is an app for Mac, mainly for TP and SS people to chew on.

#501152

Ah sorry... You see, I'm not a Mac person.

If there's anything I can do... I'll be happy to help.

Ive given Kinsemon the resource based DLTA. but its still a bit to sort thru. Im working on extracting the bitmaps into a folder using GUIKITTY. Which will be great if it works, itll mean that all the bmps will be easily accesible, each within its own folder tho (a bit of a pain, but workable).

Made any other progress Kinsemon?

In the meantime, suck on this!

^ the next revision... main black buttons, with blue press states! and leopard style windows!

#501212

well, like i said, i was able to open up .rcsc and extract all the binaries using MROW (Mac Resources On Windows). i tried Able Graphic Manager to read the pxm but only got blanks, gives the image dimesions though, LOL.

I guess, the files were made using Pixelmator. will try Image Magick next...

Levi, you should take a high resolution shot of your desktop with the Loco theme on and put it on Deviantart instead of just that 1' by 2' rectangular picture. It'll surely attract a lot more people.

Do it like this one:

http://neodesktop.deviantart.com/art/Leopa...elease-60407019

with all three styles of the Loco theme available :)

#501441

here's a sample of the launch site...

http://web.mac.com/lemasproductions/Lunity/Lunity.html

at this stage, Lunity is a working title.

#501672

yeah...like that :P

#501735

suggestions on names anyone?

ideally id like it to be somthing a little more simple than "iLunity"... but at the same time embodies the feel of the theme.

- uno

-unity

- lunar

- space

- universe

- illuminous

- Leopard

iLunity embodies all of the above, but as a word it seems a bit lame.

I even considered just calling it just "Leo"...

- Leo is short for Leopard

- Leo is a star sign (thus embodying the lunar idea)

- Leo is representative of a Lion, one of the few cats not used by OSX yet

(I always considered my theme to be a representation of how I wanted the next OSX to look)

^ what was missing is the uno/unity... and thats a most important component of my theme. any other ideas?

checkout the theme website for further screens.

You are trying too hard Levi, iLunity is fine ;)

imo, only the content decides the perfectness of the theme, name is just an outside coat.

btw, how is it coming, kinsemon?

not really a dedicated port, as i have to recreate many of the elements.

still a lot of refinements...

Thats looking very good... especially seing as I havent been much of a help.

sorry ive been rather busy with creating my new theme... that and life.

I realise its only early days, but a few suggestions;

- buttons- the ones with the circular edges- the edges while very thin, need to be darker (almost black)

- tabs- need a strong defined black border. the edge of the view button looks a tad blurred.

-menus- need to be less transparent. This is perhaps a personal preference, Id rather lean on the side of usability myself.

- small pressed button states- most are black eg- scroll bar ends, arrow buttons, etc are all black. If you need further help with button states then ask.

- scroll bars... umm.... well.... its ironic... in my Loco theme they are darker and have a gloss to them (think of the ones in coverflow) but ... you've more or less replicated the plain gradient ones from my new upcoming theme (ilunity for now).... so im not sure if this is intentional, but its your choice both look nice.

^ Hope all the above helps. Im not lecturing you, just trying to give as much advice as I can.

I'm glad you're working on the port. Its looking very authentic and I can see a lot of effort has gone into it. well done.

#502335

no problem here mate, .also busy with my own themes...

thanks for the pointers. also have to restrain myself from applying my styles and second-guessing your work.

#502343

That's very nice! Kinsemon, gratz! I'm looking forward to the release!

lol uve got people laying into you at deviantart?

how bizarre. I never had bad feedback with my original. What bastards... and yours is a pretty good looking port.

Dont take it, people here appreciate the work you are doing.

-ohh one more thing... just to be a knit-picker...the back/forward and view buttons... they need to be pretty much the exact same colour as the window on the inside; the idea being that they look almost part of the window itself (i think from the screenshot they're lighter or have a gradient or something...)

#502419

Good luck kinsemon, it's looking decent so far.

No, some moron is not commenting on the work of the theme itself, but second-guessing my motivation for porting a mac theme. like saying i salivate and secretly covets Windows if i make a Shapeshifter/Themepark skin of Vista.

regarding the buttons, i thought i saw a color gradient...oh, well...

#502464

regarding the buttons, i thought i saw a color gradient...oh, well...

In the non-pressed state there is no colour. In remains identical to the window background

In the clicked state there is a blue gradient. light blue (top)->dark blue (bottom).

If there is a button already pressed down, and another button is being pressed (eg- switching views) then the gradient is reversed on the button currently being clicked. dark blue (top)-> light blue (bottom)

2nd preview...

http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs29/f/2008/168..._by_eamon63.png

Not bad. Its really coming along.

I'll get you a few preview images / templates of button states so that you can perfect that aspect.

I might even get some exact colour/gradient settings for photoshop... do u use photoshop?... if so i have some presets for you.

I REALLY like what you did with my rounded push buttons!... you gave the active (eg- "Cancel" button) thin black edges... In my loco, the edges are grey- but its annoying because it always seems like the button is disabled!

I didnt make mine black because the line became too thick and dominating. But your thin black line works well.

Preview 2 image Notes-

1- Edges- on the view button are still in need of better definition. Perhaps its just a dodgy preview image- but the "column view's" right edge is grey and should be black.

2- Selected Menubar- When the root menu is clicked (eg- the help menu) the blue area appears but does not overlap the white line... ie- the white line is always running right accross the screen underneath the menubar's gradients.

3- Tabs- (ie- pressed/normal/disabled) I assume these are still to be themed? ... that pressed state looks nasty! hehe no offence.

4- Menus- The menubar menus and the right click menu seem to be different transparencies... I like the more transparent of the two, but something in between would be nice.

Also- Im not sure if its a limitation of windows, but those menu dividers need to be thinner and darker (black) and like menu text- not transparent.

5- up/down left/right arrows- they should be divided by a grey line (same as button borders) not an empty space.

Hahaha! you also changed the scrollbars... you didnt have to! but its ok you did.... either is fine.

Not that this matters, but all windows have square edges at the bottom, not rounded... leave them. I couldnt decide whether to make mine square or not!

I ended up making them all square because some windows couldnt be rounded! a limitation of OSX theming...

I'll be releasing my new theme soon too. (just to keep you busy, just kidding!)

:D

The previews would really help, and btw, am using GIMP. so .pngs would be great.

Regarding the push buttons, i initially made the items twice the desired size. compressing them to the actual desired size gives that effect, includes some fading out of the original black outline...

1- Edges- that's Styler Toolbar. haven't changed the elements yet. minor issue.

2- Selected Menubar- this is Objectbar by default. will check the settings...

3- Tabs- (ie- pressed/normal/disabled) Using Blitzr's Lucida Gr font, black with shadow of rgb 215 215 215 1px offset. really garrish! LOL! Windows font rendering issue i guess. Will try other fonts...

4- Menus- Due to different apps for the menus. will try a compromise transparency value/effect...

5- up/down left/right arrows- that's just the preview...

lol hey is this still happening?... i like forgot about it haha
