Y'z Dock 0.2 released

OK... now i know what it is...

It's not that people with lower spec pc's get better performance... IT'S US WITH GF4s THAT HAVE A PERFORMANCE PROBLEMS!!! And having GF4 just happens to coincide with having a better speced PC altogether...

Considering problems that various 2d progs have with GF4, it's not that wierd... windowblinds, i.e., combined with Y'Z shadow or, god forbid, WindowFX, is rather sluggish... especially if you move windows quickly...

And Goku, kill the Det 40s...

It has MUCH SLOWER 3D performance... nvidia screwed it up again...

go back to 30s... you'll gain a few fps on Y'Z dock...

And to do that you'll have to uninstall detonator from control panel, kill it manually in device manager and, before you restart, delete all nv4.inf files from your windows directory (and all of it's subdirectories)

the last part is optional - it probably won't be needed unless you installed XP SP1 (which rather agressively insists on installing it's buggy and uncertified (although it's Microsoft's) fallback Ti4400 driver every time you uninstall detonator)

hope this helps

PS: Oh... and raising priority in task manager as described elsewhere on the forums a notch or two (better two - to High) helps a bit too...

Maybe it is the code in the processor that is making the dock run slow on some of yalls comps. I have a celeron 700mhz processor and I just tested out the new y'z dock and it runs prefectly and at the same speed of the old one. The people that are having problems do you all have pentiums? and the people that are running it prefectly what kind of processor do you have? Also I like the new auto-hide feature but when you hide it at the top it will not show up if you have a window maximized.

---->dude, its a p2 300Mhz.. how efficiant the cpu code can be more than a p4 1800Mhz one?

i still am amazed from the appli anyway.

---> sounds promising, but many games run slower with the 30's.. like myth3 (no one but me playing this game) and some other games. I run max payne, ut2003 in 1280x1024 32bit anti-aliasing x2, trilinear, and it runs like 80fps. freaking incredible. so im not sure i wanna go back just for the docks... - i think you have a point with the drivers and ill give it a try and see what happens with the rest of my stuff (like 3dsmax and maya).

thanks.

#458

app is nice just the mag effect is scetchy :/ thats on my nice crappy comp lol

#459

strange... it runs MUCH MUCH faster than the previous versions on my Dell 733 MHz. Dunno why..

Oh, and there are no memory leaks anymore :D

#460

What the heck do you mean "the code on the CPU"...

CPU's don't have code... unless you mean hardwired CPU architecture...

and that wouldn't be the cause...

plus Celerons ARE Pentiums (well downgraded a bit, anyway)

And yes, i noticed that bug with windows over hidden dock too... you can usually invoke it back by clicking at the screen edge blindly and repetitivly until it shows up.... worked for me...

I am having this weird problem where I click an icon in thew dock, but the program doesnt launch until I remove the curspr from the dock area :( . Anyone else having this problem?

#463

this is sooo weirrdd what i want to know is.. why this new version makes our P4's and Geforce4's run the dock so slow.. the ;last version runs sooo beautioful.. this version just adds Auto hide ability to add to top and Poof.. nothing really that effects the Mag effect..Thats what i Do not understand. It cant be a problem with a setting on our computer or anything.. if the last version ran great on our computers then why a sudden Slow down on this one.. it just adds a few more features :(

oh well.

look above dude,

i didnt say anything about the cpu code...

calm down - i was quoting DECIEVER saying this :

"Maybe it is the code in the processor that is making the dock run slow on some of yalls comps. I have a celeron 700mhz processor and I just tested out the new y'z dock and it runs prefectly and at the same speed of the old one. so i answerd him:

"dude, its a p2 300Mhz.. how efficiant the cpu code can be more than a p4 1800Mhz one?"

read again.

#466

Yes... i was refering to his post...

sorry if you, or anyone else felt hurt by it :)

to bolero: aaah... but you see, it's optimized now :) *jk*

and it works just as slow for me as the previous version... maybe a few fps faster... but i still like it and keep it on my desktop!

orcinus

#468

its ok -

just quote and it will be clearer..

#469

besides, it's completely free and sweet... let's not be so critical about it!

Orcinus

#470

noboy is critising it harshly or outta perspective.

infact that appli is so effing great that this is what the fruit's os has exactly the same.

some problem notes may help the author fix bugs or update his appli

and as i said, that appli is looking like a fully realised OD.

#472

yea this program Yz made is just amazing its great

i realllly want Icon bouncing though pleeassseee

lol i sound like a little kid... but anyways

hey I was just throwing out a suggestion and I wasn't referring directly to the reply about that person having a 300mhz comp that can run it prefectly. Also I know of some programs that DO NOT run on celerons because it's architecture is different than that of a pentium so I was wondering if M.Y. developed the dock on a celeron or on a comp that does not have a pentium(like an Athlon). Also the celeron is toned down from that of pentiums that I've known but the pentium II was redesigned after the celeron was made cuz the supose to be cheaper processor ended up ranking better than there more expensive pentium II, so all the new pentiums you could say is a buffed up celeron =) hehe.

oh yeah I have a GeForce 4 64mbs PCI with 40.72 driver and I run the new 0.2 dock just as good as the old one and just as fast, so that conclusion that it is the driver and GF4 isn't as solid as ya think.

#477

well, like i said, new version runs the same as the old one (maybe just a tad faster)

the question is, what people consider fast... 15-20 fps isn't fast for me... (i think it's closer to 20 when there's nothing running in the background now)

and if gf issue isn't solid, how come speed changes with driver versions?

one more thing... do you have a GF4 MX or TI?

and finally, like i mentioned before on emaculation forum, i specifically killed EVERY SINGLE process (except the absolutely necessary ones) and NOTHING changed!!! so it's not a conflict with another program/process...

it could be an issue with another driver (non graphic adapter driver) but i doubt it...

But what im trying to say is that It cant be a driver problem.. since My drivers and my video card can run the magnification effect and speed of 0.1 dock soo fast and very very good (same with moby) but once he added these changes(and im pretty sure he didnt touch alot on the Magnification effect) it seems less responsive and a chuggy mag effect.. i dont understand how those new options would do that sicne the last version my computer and vid card ran the Mag effect Flawlessly until now.

I love this app thugh its amazing :)

-Bolero

#482

he he, im gone for one day and y'z comes out with a new version??? ;) this new version is amazing, i noticed a slight mag effect speed increase on my system.. but still not sure how fast it should be  .. i noticed an increase also after i decreased the font size, and the overall dock size.. great job Mr. Y

#484

As far as I know MX is only for PCI and I said I have the PCI version. According to the stats my GF4 MX420 ranks a lil better than a GF2 AGP i think. Also I just changed from a 30.xx driver to a 40.72 driver a few hours ago and didn't notice a difference in the dock.

#487

hey you know what you guys (bolero man) i just came back home from work, and i tested the dock on my pc, it ran choppier, but when i raised it to a higher priority - it ran as fast as the first one.

PLEASE TRY IT OUT, i think im losing my mind from joy :D

EDIT-Works perfect - and when i do anything with the dock, like resizing the mag effect, the dock or drag n drop, it becomes choppy again.. me feel sad :(

#488

Latest det. drivers are 41.03 ;/

Hope this helps with anyone having problems with a slow dock, that's using a geforce card..

You are right... Isnt the driver... Its the program... The people that say its run more faster, its right too... Run more faster but less (a lot) smooth than 0.1. Just move compare it and you will see the difference. I like more 0.1.1

WELL SAID

#495

I do not think M.Y. would have changed the dock in a way to make it run less smoothly than the previous ones. I think that since he added some new features to it that maybe the extra resources may effect the programs performance on some computers.......luckily mine is not one of them :D
