What would you like to see in a future Mac?

in fact i resent the fact apple renamed the ipod 'classic' and decided to add a touch and a phone.

Well put!

that's their fault they can't keep up with technology, not apples. why should apple support nearly 10 year old machines when ~80% of mac users are running G5 or better :o

Ok think it this way, crappy PC companies support computers from the late 1990s and up, why?

Because their freaking computers never switched their stupid processor chips, and so, many people can run new software in their old PCs, say, you have Windows 98 and you want to browse the web correctly, well you, just download the latest of FireFox and you just browse the web without any problems!, in Mac OS 9 you cant use firefox 2.0 and even in Mac OS 10.0 10.1 you cant... why, because the developers just want to take advantage of the intel chip and not the PPC, now do you get it? its sad that PCs make a better job in that area... and my point is that its stupid that old PCs are compatible with the new software and macs are not. and off course the Mac is far more advanced... I dont care what other people say, I would like the PPC in new Macs, and thats final.

Think about it, even extreme game consoles use PowerPC...

do you refer to all the small things , LMFAO!.. no offense.. just a joke!

you sir made my day :D

Think about it, even extreme game consoles use PowerPC...

Though it's off topic..... but by extreme you mean most powerful, then PS3 is currently got most power under hood and it's not running PPC but CELL/BE processor. And the "other" console which does make us of PPC has failure rate of over 33%. Though I admit it's not fully processor, but processor does contribute to overheating issues.

As for your other rumbling... What apple trying to do with Intel Chip is getting their product line more streamlined. Heck, they even have eye on Intel chip for iPhone. Why? simple... same platform across the product line (x86), same core software (OSX). Makes it easy to develop more streamline code (since platform and os remains same), better integration and convergence across different products, not to mention the speed and efficiency new chips bring while able to reduce the cost thus making products affordable.

PPC had to go because it couldn't bring the efficiency in terms of power and/or performance compare to newer generation x86 chips (amd or intel). You yourself said one thing and that "the developers just want to take advantage of the intel chip and not the PPC"... oh please... while there are some apps which are Intel only, many developers are still writing apps using Universal Binaries (which means it will run on both, Intel or PPC). And Intel only apps would still run (albeit at lower speed) in rosetta.

I'm sorry my friend, but if you don't like progress... You can still use Internet Explorer 5 on Mac OS 9... a discontinued browser for age old OS. There is nothing wrong in loving the past... but forgetting you're living in present is neither good. Denial is certainly not the way of life.

USB 3 ports on all new Macs... almost forgot!... but i dont think they've been released jst yet. they're coming tho- google news it.

so...in turn a Super AppleTV?

Kinda... but lets not forget what apple tv lacks;

* a dvd player/burner.

* a tv tuner. (i think?) or ability to tune into digital tv without other devices.

* decent sized internal storage.

* external storage access (usb drives, mp3 players and HDDs etc, you cant play media off unless u hack)

* recording abilities.

Apple tv is really only a 'streamer'... its a way to connect your pc's photos, music and video up to the TV without wires (essentially)...

and quite frankly I hate the apple tv. I think its a redundant product... I'd prefer just to move my whole PC up next to the TV, rather than pay that much. Not everyone has a wireless network setup or wireless card for the apple tv to be advantageoes.

^sry for getting fanatical. I know ur comment was jst a lighthearted one :P ... Jst thats what I think shld be done.

I've always thought that the AppleTV device is useless. It is sort of like Windows Media Center if didn't really do anything. I was surprised that Apple still hasn't come up with MCE-like software for MacOS. Are they freely admitting that Microsoft one-upped them?

its sad that PCs make a better job in that area

That's only your opinion. On average most people buy a new PC every 2-3 years. Leopard will be the last OS that PPC's will see. Technology marches on.

I am not going to keep arguing about about it, I would like PowerPC in future macs and thats final.

I think Apple owes it to people to have 10.6 work in at least G5's.

They sold us on that bullshit so support it. G4's and G3's well its time to upgrade, they're kinda slow these days. Plus nothing is gonna stop ya from using tiger or leopard when that time comes.

I like PPC too. I still have a PPC Mac mini that works flawlessly, but this isn't about what we like, it's about technology. The technology of the PPC chip was holding Apple back, and they knew it. So did many others in the industry. If you're upset about Apple saying bye-bye to the PPC chip, then don't blame Apple, blame Freescale ;)

What's the point AngelArs.... He already said that he isn't going discuss it any further, he just wants PPC in future macs.

Now I can see it.... this isn't about discussing viability of certain things being present in future products. This thread is about what YOU want to see in a future mac. It can be anything, not necessarily being practical... it can be any feature you want to see. So it's actually pointless to argue on feature someone thinks should be there. It's their idea about the product, let that be.

Having said that, I realize that I can dive even more about possibilities of things I can expect in future mac... so I would like to add Drew Barrymore to my earlier Catherine-Zeta Jones request.

(No one dare discuss anything on my request.. you've been warned.. period)

I would personally like to see a built in helicopter so I can move my mac around my house easy . . . Ok now that ain't gunna happen, but what I would personally like to see on future macs are maybe, a button you can press to turn the screen into a mirror. Not for me but just think of all the women who would want to own a good looking peice of equipment AND have a mirror built in? Just picture this scene:

Woman - "Oh no, I left my mirror at home!"

Man - "Hey, I have a mac you can use!"

Woman - "Aren't they like the super computers that have mirrors built in?"

Man - "Yeah, they have many other "turn on" points too"

Just think, how easy it would be to pull, with a mac, lol!

What's the point AngelArs

We have already stated the point, that being that some people are blaming the wrong company. See above ;)

We didn't state that for discussion. We stated it as information, as most people probably weren't aware of the fact.

Having said that, we'd like to see a tablet Mac (the iSlate?) which it appears we will sooner than later. Just hope it has Blu-ray :)

#475946

Are we still on this topic? Can we just move on and forget this lil arguement now?
