What brand of CPU processors do you like to use?

I was interested in finding out what processor brands were used most and decided to try and find out.

So it would be great if you could post the specific type of processor you use along with a brief testimonial of your processor and what's good and bad about it in your own opinion.

I am an Intel person. I've never owned any other x86 processor brand besides them. I also a fan of the PowerPC architecture, they do well inside server platforms.

It's a little biased, but I am an Intel 'fanboy'. If you were to ask me, I would always say Intel.

I'd go with intel, but i think when it comes to gaming i'll go for AMD. They are really good at making chips which cater to gamers

I currently own Pentium D 830 cpu (crap really if you ask me), I was considering going for AMD after that experience... but then came along C2D chips and Intel was fav again.

In fact I'm skipping my MBP purchase for few more months, and going for Intel Quad-Core (Q6600) next month. My desktop really need some love.

I have an Intel MacBook and I used to have a PowerPC iBook G4. I like them both. So my pick is Intel and Other (IBM/Motora PowerPC processors).

Intel. I will never go to AMD unless the benchmarks really prove to be A LOT better than the Core 2 Duo's / Core 2 Extreme's. Which I doubt will happen for a while.

really? i do not care what cpu-brand is inside.

first i figure out what i really want to do with a computer...

just surfing? pay bills? graphics?

than the computer should have x MB of RAM, x Ghz, x Gb of HDD and so on.

than i look on the price.

price ok? computer ok? -> buy.

i dont care if its AMD, intel or whatever.

if mac os would run on AMD as well, i 'll look on the price...

but right now there is no much choice if i want to run mac os and windows on the same machine... (-> intel).

^ I agree, at least where I live... Intel has amazing support. Before Pentium D, I had fried my mobo (it was really my fault) on P4 HT cpu... and Intel sent me brand new mobo in replacement in less than 2 weeks. Beside that one incident, Intel parts have been rock stable in my system (even in days, when I had cases with piss-poor thermal management).

Though I haven't experience AMD ever so far, I can't comment on it's reliability neither their support system in my area. But then I never needed it either, My experience with Intel has always been satisfactory (except Pentium D).

people always say intel make stable/reliable chips while amd make chips for gaming...

like... wtf...

It really doesnt make sense like that to me. To me the faster a chip is, the more reliable it tends to be... because the OS isnt struggling for resources (assuming it can manage not to overheat etc) and wouldnt a faster chip make a better gaming chip?

how can you have one without the other?...

That said, ive always stuck with intel. But I think AMD could be just as good, just i dont know how they compare.

Because Apple sticks with intel, i think they must have fair reason and in apple we trust. lol

I think theres more important things between choosing between brands of processors... these days both are fast- you should be worrying about getting a decent OS to run that hardware jk...

but seriously theres more important things that determine a computer's speed.

just get a top of the line processor/motherboard with dual/quad core, a decent amount of ram (in dual channel), and a fast rpm HDD.... and u'll get a good computer reguardless of the brands u go with.

Oh, that's right... you have to wait to get an AMD quad core. I am going to be running a Core 2 Quad Duo (?) soon. That is two core 2 quad processors working in tandem to create a virtual 8-core. Now, if I could just find a bigger power supply than 1250, I will be good to go....

When it comes to PC's, its whatever is the cheapest for performance at the time. Last PC I had was AMD, looks like intel took its place for now.

I'm using and AMD 64 3400+. I want an Intel C2D though, or that AMD 145 Opteron, if I remember, that was the processor that was really cheap, but had crazy overclocking possibilities that could get it the same speed as AMD's FX Processor Line :X

Uhh, hello? I love using PowerPC. I still use them in a node of mine.

They aren't slow on my end, they are made by IBM. Not the ones you guys are referring to, the ones that were in the old Apple machines.

Power PC is SO slow! I would understand why someone would like slow processors lol. Anyways, I like Intel more, they're faster
