All new iPods released

Looks like i sold my 5th gen just in time (i hated it!). But i wont be upgrading just yet. Ive still got a 4th gen which does what i need. Plays music. They should bring back wozniak to redo the whole ipod line IMHO.

I thought Jonathon Ives (designer) still had a hand in the original iPod?...

To my knowledge, Woz only designed the technical side of it- he endorsed firewire, the internal hard disk, the click wheel and the like.

I think its a shame that they have neglected firewire.

But these days USB2 is faster than firefire 400 anyway.

With the exception of firewire 800... But nothing uses firewire 800 really.... future ipods perhaps?

... the only thing i dont like about it is that it scratches. But the video, photos and music all work awesome.

At least the new ipods are getting metalised... the clear plastic looks nice new, but its not so good for the wear and tear.

Do keep in mind Apple operates in the real world, where PCs control 90% of the market. And consider that of that 90%, about 100% of all those PCs use USB 2. As much as Apple would have liked to keep FireWire going (and even though FireWire 800 is actually faster than USB 2), it made far more sense to choose USB over FireWire. I can't see full FireWire support returning unless you want an iPod the size of the first generation iPod (more like iBrick, actually.)

What i hated about my 5th gen was A: I hate to constantly wipe it down because it got really filthy with fingerprints and dust (i eventually got a case) unlike my 4th gen which never got dirty at all. And B: it was super laggy when playing music. The menus were no where near as snappy as my 4th gen and you could forget about playing games while listining to music. I did however like the video playback.

Wooo! Go 4th gens! lol. On a completely unrelated note ill be posting the pics for my iPod 4th gen custom project that i undertook ages ago and finished ages ago. I still believe the simplicity of the design of the 4th gens owns the 5th gens weird proportions and flat edges.

In regards to the iPod classic and the new nano. I think you have to see and hold the iPods to fully appreciate them. Because of the aluminium (pronounced al-u-min-ee-um for those yanks reading this ) metal the iPods look weird in pictures due to static and unnatural lighting in ads and such media.

I also personally don't mind the new iPod Touch...though it seems like just a stepping stone in iPod tech, (as was the iPod Photo which means there might be a future 'iPod' with all the right features

don't forget that because it has a higher screen, you'll need higher resolution videos to watch, otherwise you will notice the quality. So for all of those people who say that they won't have a problem with space, just multiply your video collection's size by 2 and you'll get what it'll look like.

Also, i wonder what effect this will have on Youtube; meebo has changed itself so you can IM on an iPhone, but Youtube will soon be overrun with free tv shows that are equivalent to the ones you can buy...

Personally i like the iPod classic, except for the name. "iPod Classic", you don't want to have a classic, people buy apple products because they look sleek and new...why would you want a classic? Go and buy a 4G instead, that's REALLY classic...and iPod touch? wtf? you touch all the ipods, that's HOW you'd use them. The classic should be called an iPod, and the touch should be called something else, like "iPod 2" or "iPod X" or even "iPod OS X" "iPod Leopard"

i've never had my eyes on a nano, there has never been enough space on one of them. But that is not a nano. Maybe its an ipod micro or mini again, should be called iPod Zen Mini

Thinking about that, however, if you encoded your collection at 320 x 240 in H.264 like I have done, you won't need to upgrade. I can watch these videos on my LCD TV in perfect quality.

well so have i, yet on my 28" CRT its visible that there are artefacts and a loss of colour even at 768kbps...
