DSL speed

what is ur fastest speed for DSL? mine is 187 kbps most likely depending on traffic condition and if

i download 2 or 3 files at the same time average speed 86 kbps 58 kbps and 46 <==those i tested with download manager.

My question is that would it be faster if u download 1 file at the time or it doesn't really matter2-3?(Large amount of files i'm talking bout) it's all about time consuming, and for video is it true that slower download speed you have the image will get abit fuzzy, i can't really tell the different.

DSL? isn't that obsolete now? lol. I haven't had under 12mb in 3 years. Move up to cable man. If you have charter you can get the 12mb down 3mb up for $69 a month.

Cable internet sucks SOOOO HARD in the apartments I live in. The wiring is simply bad. Really really bad.

Service was unreliable. It would go down for no reason. It failed during certain times of the day. It. Sucked. Hard.

Haven't had a single problem with AT&T DSL. 50 bucks a month for their high-end service I split with a roommate.

We are in a new house, so every cable and wire is fresh. And we went out and bought a signal repeater that makes the signal stronger to and fro. We had DSL before the new house was finished and it was horrible. When it stormed it would knock out the phones and the internet, and around here anyway, you can only get a max of 700k down. I am paying a total of $102 a month for 12mb Cable, Premium Cable Package and Telephone.

I even tried Verizon Broadband and it SUCKED. I needed something reliable while on the road. Ended up using Sprint Mobile Wireless and I usually get around 100k down.

I just don't know what I'd do if I had to deal with under 5mb service.

OMG, gnomexp, that's so true. I have Comcast and it gets f****ed up all the time. I would love to switch to AT&T DSL, but it's not available where I live yet, which I'm very pissed off about. There's nothing else here, only Comcast or crappy dail-up. I'm stuck. You're so lucky.

when i lived in West Virginia for a while I had Comcast..Comcast DOES SUCK. but down in Missouri with Charter, it's treated me very well. Only one outage due to a huge train derailing.

LOL...you guys are so funny, i guess it's all depends on where u at. A friend of mine lives 15 minutes away from me and he has cable (not really sure which provider, i think it's comcast) it doesn't really make that much different than mine DSL (Verizon) he said, unfortunately it's not available at his area yet! and he's paying wat 60 or more something bucks amonth while i'm paying $33 included tax. Screw that $102 man that's crazy & comcast does suck i agree.

If there's 700 MB file divided 8 each file is 87 MB, and download it 1 file at the time i got approximately from 7-8 minutes to completed download (isn't it fast or slow), and if i download 3 files at the same, would it be...multiply to 3=24 minutes? i haven't tested it, that would take me all day , does it really matter for the image? each file's speed is very slow 'cause too many running at the same time. So some ppl say slower download speed the image will get fuzzy, is that right?

Boog, you're probably right. One consistent pattern, though, is that Comcast/Time Warner blows. Charter is actually decent, maybe.

I'm curious where in Missouri you live.

wow...you guys seem to be getting the worst of dsl in the states...dsl in totally pwns adsl here in england, i have the slowest speed broadband from my provider atm and that suits me atm 256kbps download on a 2mb connection. Costing all of £13 pounds a month (about £26 dollars), and whats best of all it never ever goes down for more than an hour once every couple of years

Cable internet is dependent on how many people are connected in your area. If your sub-division or local area is growing, be prepared to see your connection speed slip when more people start to subscribe also. And Charter, in my area, is horrible. I loose signal when it becomes too hot, or too cold. We switched to DSL a month and a half ago, at $15 a month, we get constant 60Kb/s, which is just fine for me. Cheap, and it's broadband.

If I had the decision on our TV services, I would ditch the Digital Cable (which stinks! it just takes too long to do anything, even a simple task of changing channels) and get DirectTV (which my brother has, and only has gone out once when we got an inch of ice, while in the same time frame, our cable has gone out 3 times, not including the hundreds of times I've seen where it pixelates and goes black for no apparent reasons).

Charter is horrible, and overpriced, in my area.

The Verizon wireless is only good if you travel a lot. You don't have to worry about finding a hotspot, or paying some establishment for some connection time.

Qwest VDSL here. 3mb up and 3mb down all for $39 per month.

Cox cable is terrible out here. Yes they offer faster download speeds, but not very reliable.

My in-laws of cable for internet and they do nothing but complain.

I guess we are all right. Because it really does depend on the area you live. I live in the ourskirts of city with maybe 11 or 12 other houses for about 18 miles in all directions.

But back to orignal question for this thread. If you are downloading a movie and it is in sperate RAR then quality shouldn't be lost. However, streaming in packets or chunks can and will lose quality. But theoreticly it is faster to download multiple smaller files then one large file.

with comcast i get around 400-600kbps download speeds, but with windstream/altell i'm lucky to get 100kbps

So i guess i have the most slowest speed here, the topest speed i could get is 205 kbps that with a download manager besides 187kbps that's it.

That's real slow bud, i've been using Verizon DSL for about 3 yrs now never had a single problem. The first couple month i had the same speed as u then i've found out my router was wild open, i had let my lovely neighbor used it free for a couple of months.

I truly am satisfied with it. I am not a gamer, and if I do game, it's on a LAN, so it's not an issue. I maintain a couple of web-sites, so a fast enough connection to upload an image or mid-sized documents in less than a minute is suffice. And I didn't want to tie up the phone line. I will never have a need to pay that much for speeds that I will never use. I'm not that impatient. After all, I was on 56k up until a month and a half ago.

i have ADSL here in london. its 16Mbps and it sets me back £10 (~$20) a month. The company also offers a 2Mbps service for free . Cable Internet is not available in my area.

I have never heard of anybody having a dsl connection under 384kilobits

I'm jealous... we're here US Citizen got rip off from network providers i tell you that, they'd gave me $12 for the first 6 months after that $29.99 plus Uncle Sam.

I don't know much about Networking to be honest, that's my download speed today i actually looked at my connection and it's 100 kbps

I live in the Big Apple, and I use Optimum Online Boost, from Cablevision. It is REALLY nice here; at 30MB/s down and 5MB/s up. It is a really great service.

In total, for our Cable TV service (iO Digital), Optimum Online Boost, and Optimum Voice, we pay a mere $125.

My friend where I go to a lot has Verizon DSL, @ 768kb/s down and 64kb/s up. That connection SUCKS. Ugh, it is just plain old terrible.

I have Earthlink DSL in the 3MB/s tier. It costs me $39.99USD. I have a home wireless network, so lose about 1MB/s over wireless. Its rated at 367Kbps upstream.

I thought about upgrading to 6MB/s but I don't think it's worth the trouble.
