[Preview] Cleaned Up Xport 2.0

if jason would be kind enough to grant his approval, I have hacked at a cleaner version of his great XPORT2.0 vs (Y)

It has the accuracy of Xport, with the QUALITY of KOL's artistic eye:

- scroll bars are now SMOOTH/accurate

- PLASTIC BUTTONS!!! are implemented

- Minor graphical changes using KOL's refined bitmaps

- Minor font changes in some menus

a few more things that i can't recollect right now.

anyway this is just the XPORT BLUE theme with the APPLE logo.

Thanks to Jason and KOL for some truly great themes.

#45158

#45159

hence, it would be nice if they granted it

#45168

EXPLORER MENU (system preferences) ICONS HAVE A BUTTON LOOK TO THEM, EVEN ON THE SPLITBR (when mouse-over on the explorer buttons, my pointer was over the "back" button)

LOG OFF/TURN OFF buttons on the user pane have been changed

(!!!!WEIRD TEXTURE ON THE USER PANE IS FROM JPEG DISTORTION!!!!)

PLASTIC BUTTONS

SMOOTH, RICH, SCROLL BARS (HORIZONTAL/VERT)

fullsize:

notice:

in the explorer (desktop) window, when you mouse over each back/fwd/stop/refresh etc icons, it actually takes a raised look and look exactly like the amazing KOL theme

PLASTIC BUTTONS carry over to webpages ie: google.com

again, i didn't really do anyhting so im not going to take any credit, this was really an amazing illusion by ja50n and KOL

#45174

btw, all buttons are regular silver/white plastic until they are moused over then they turn blue.

jpg distortion is making everything only look 1/2 as good as it does when actually using it.

shizzy fo rizzy, dis theme be off the hizzy.

best recognize, gotta represent, i'm gonna be keepin it real. <_<

Nice work, but why dont you use a different font for the taskbar. You have used Kol's little 8 size font.

That is Kol's style and is nothing at all like the mac.

Check out screenshots of people that use objectbar, or better yet checkout iceman's jaguar 2.01 or a real mac.

The taskbar font on any real mac theme is Lucida Grande font size 9-10

Ja450n aim was to make this theme realistic, what you have done is change the fonts to resemble kols themes. Kol's themes are not at all accurate to apple panther, they are made in his own style, he creates all his own toolbars, buttons and tabs, he doesnt use .bmp rips off ss's. His themes are great, but they have nothing in common with the real apple panther, that is where ja450n came in and tried to make it accurate.

PS: I spent 2 months changing all of Kol's fonts sizes and buttons to resemble apple panther, so I know what I'm saying, I'm only trying to help, the rest of the changes you have made are great.

Hey 3drives, yah i was totally using your VS for the longest time, until that lucidaMAC font was just too blurry on my old ibm 390e STINKPAD!~

thanks for the input, its great. This was my very first time messin with style builder to change some stuff around. Just wanted it a little cleaner, its like all the textures used for xport were slightly distorted, but maybe its my maxed out 24 bit color setting, dunno!.

I would totally change the task bar font, cuz the small clock is buggin me, but alas.... i need a few more hrs of dabbling to figure it out.

I'd love to change it to the same font as used in the WINDOW TITLE bars, anyone wanna gimme a hand and let me know WHERE that font was located????

#45193

this is looking good

ask for permission to post it please :own:

On my theme I also made that mistake, it still has kol's 8 size font, I need to update it.

Check icemans jag 2.01, that is proper.

but that font he used for the window titles is really no where to be found.  :dr_evil:

The windows titlebars are in the fonts-- captionbar font.

It is probably lucida grande but with shadow effects ala iceman.

Load up iceman 2.01 and see his shadow settings.

#45216

so here is the newest incarnation i have been working on, i am not sure about the fonts, maybe you guys can voice something about it, better/worse/etc?

my mouse is on the OK button, hence it is blue.

it was hard to edit xport2.0 thinger in stylebuilder.. maybe it was just me.

better?

yay/nay?

#45543

Not bad... but then again I usualy tweak font settings after the fact on most VS themes that I download.

Kinda my own personal touch.

In fact, I normaly never use a VS "as is".

Just like what you are doing, I tweak them to fit my needs.

#45591

Please, allow this guy to release this theme. I love plastic buttons!!!

#45598

these buttons would make me switch back to visual styles and forget about elephant windowblinds... get permissions!!!

X-Port was designed to Resemble as close a possible the OSX look and feel..

it seems what you have done is just make it look more like KOL's.

not that there is anything wrong with his.. it's just not OSX.

Scroll bars

done the way they are on purpose.. to look EXACTLY like OSX

they are not, nor were ever Smooth in OS X...

Explorer Buttons... These in x-port are exactly like the buttons in OSX..

the "button look" is not accurate at all to OSX Panther.

Logoff / Shutdown buttons are from the OSX Panther Logon Panel.

they were re-created with the ut-most of care for accuracy.

Bitmaps.. are all FROM OSX..

i don't know how much more "refined" you can get..

than straight from the original..

the only things, that i am considering changing.. updating. are

Plastic Buttons and Fonts

sorry to sound like an @$$... it's just that i've spent allot of time making X-Port

the CLOSEST possible to OS X.. and the changes you've made.. have defeated that..

again. though.. i am working on the plastic buttons.. and some font updates.. for people with laptops, and small monitors..

FYI....

If you are looking for help "hacking" X-Port.. you may need to find a site

where more people create skins without StyleBuilder.

there are allot of things different between X-Port and the normal StyleBuilt skin..

first off.. you won't be able to edit at least half of X-Port.. because it won't import into Stylebuilder correctly.

Oh and BTW..

i've not received an e-mail or private message from trueno92...

i don't know how you had expected to get my permission...

#45743

woah there, didn't mean to pee in your cornflakes.

the whatever i created was pretty hacked up and i didn't want to get serious about releasing it until a. a few bugs were straightened out and b. saw what your reaction would be.

if you cared to READ, i said the ACCURACY of XPORT, nowhere did i say the accuracy of OSX. Is your theme so much in vain of OSX that you consider it one in the same?

again with all the work you put into it im sure you do expect your theme to be identical to what OSX is. now, have you ever considered your theme to be something on its OWN? From the changes you HAVEN'T ragged on, the font for the taskbar, menu bar, and it just looks CLEANER.

yes working with XML can be a *****, and now i think i straightened out some stuff i'll send you what i got if you care to take a look at it.

if you want to put it out, or work off of it, be my guest. as this title says, a CLEANED UP XPORT. NOT CLEANED UP OSX.

if i really wanted OSX then why would i still be using this notebook that says IBM on it?

cheers, and check your inbox.

#45797

i think my post sounded the wrong way..

i didn't mean to be *****y, or naggy..

but.. when you say "ACCURACY of XPORT"

what are you saying that it is accurate to?

it is intended, to be accurate to OSX..

there is no other theme that i am trying to mimc, besides OSX.

(where as the changes you have posted screenshots of,

make it seem to appear to mimic kol's theme)

i am up for any changes in fonts..

because with windows you have to trick it to look right, in these regards.

and when people play around withfonts.. they tend to find things, that others

may have looked over..

again.. not that i'm raggin on you for doing this..

you did get into my theme after all.. most people give up when it throws up numerous errors in stylebuilder (i've gotta give you credit there)

but by saying "CLEANED UP XPORT" i assumed that you were working towards

making a cleaner representation of OS X..

hence the name X-Port (X, being OS X. and PORT, being that it is PORTed to run on windows).

i probobly sound *****y again in this post.. and i'm sorry i come off that way..

i just look at X-Port as my "Baby"... it was the first aqua msstyle.

and i have high expectations for it.. i want it to be the closest to the real OSX.

Ja450n, a little advice:

Your taskbar min max close buttons are too far apart, and I think (but am not sure as I cant be bothered to do a comparison now), that your captionbar is 1 pixel too high.

Thanks for a great theme.
