Wow after the release of Safari for windows today I am pumped. Hopefully this can get if not Apple to make it then a group of great developers to make an iChat clone for windows. How great would that be... I should probably keep dreaming though haha.
Is iChat for windows next?
Why stop at iChat? There's all of the iLife suite...![]()
yes iweb for sure
ichat for windows would be like amazing, but i doubt it. THe more apps then port over the windows the less enticing switching becomes. If you can have all the mac apps on windows PLUS all your windows apps then there would be no question to stay on windows

But I think that Apple might be looking to start marketing their programs on Windows. If people see how iChat and Safari on Windows, they might be more inclined to buy a Mac. If Apple gets exposure from making multi-OS software, they benefit from it more than Microsoft does for making multi-OS software.
even if there was iChat for Windows, i wouldn't use it. I dont use AIM and i don't have a .mac account so...there's no point. it would just be there for eye candy. If you were to use iChat on Windows via Bootcamp, would iChat recognize iSight as a webcam thus giving it all the visual capabalities it has on a mac?
the ONLY reason why apple released safari for windoze is because of the iphone.
the 3rd party apps for the iphone are rendered by webkit (safari), so the PC developers need an environment to test their apps
apple isn't stupid. if you want all the great apps that come with OS X, you have to get the great hardware too. get a mac.

Actually, that kinda makes sense... And here I thought Apple did it to cheer up the poor PC users (myself included)

That's probably what it was originally planned, but if Apple see a overall effect resulting from this (meaning either that they are getting more people buying macs off their site or ANY positive effect they can attribute to releasing Safari for Windows) they will release more apps into Windows. Maybe not have all of them free... But I am hopeful and optimistic (to some extent) about an iChat for Windows coming soon.
I do hope iChat does come out. After all it has a great interface and all. Most likely iLife will not come out for windows but if it does.... I'll be shocked ![]()
I hope so...
I have a mac, and I want iChat on Windows.... why?
Because none of my friends have a mac, thus none have ichat, and thus trying to talk to people on different clients is crummy... ie- text only, no webcam/isight, limited file sending ability, little emoticon support, limited compatability all round.
Furthermore, setting it up to work with these other clients is difficult, 'jabber' is crap.
But if Apple did it right, then iChat could become really successful on both platforms bridging the gap between pc and mac.
Why Apple brought safari to windows first is beyond me... specially with firefox out there. It might be faster but pc people hate the way safari is set up. firefox allows for customisable freedom.
PS- iLife is a tad overated, and theres little point porting most appz to pc. dare i say it- theres programs out there just as good. But if you do like (prefer the feel of) the iLife suite, then get a mac, and get the real experience... it just wouldnt be the same ported on a pc.
iChat sux man i downloaded adium straight away,it's much better imo.

I also use adium. Dont call me man.
But, at least iChat supports webcam/isight. .. Adium doesnt.
but yeah i agree- its like the firefox of msg clients
The only reason I so badly want iChat on Windows is because of the webcam and audio quality, as we all know, Live Messenger has ridculously crap webcam quality, I am desperate for a client that puts some focus on video calling.

I was wondering just why they released Safari for Windows. I couldn't think of any real reason. Yours makes sense--thanks!

You go Girl!!
haha... just thought someone had to do it...
Seriously, You go Girl! ![]()
No no he is a guy.. i think he explained it somewhere in the forums
I don't even use webcams, but I think Adium is working on it.
actually the Pidgin guys (formely known as GAIM) are working on it, Adium is made off LibGaim. The Adium team only takes care of the GUI side of the app.
Personally, I use Yahoo Messenger for Mac and iChat to video chat with my friends, MSN's webcam support is not so great... even on windows :'(
i use adium becuase i like the customation,
i do have my msn contacts in ichat via jaber however do add anyone on my list i have to load up psi and add them on the jabber side first and then auth them in ichat, bit of a pain and only 1 of my friends have mac's and the rest have crappy pc's and use msn messenger
