Posting On A Forum.

I see what you mean DZ about people lurking and not posting. It's something I do on lots of sites. Speaking for myself only here, this is why I do not post that much:

• If I don't have something worth saying, I don't say anything at all. I don't feel it proper to post on every thread if I don't care about it. My post count does not bother me one iota.

• If the point I was going to make has already been made in a thread, then I won't bother to repeat it, unless I've got something else worthwhile to add. I don't see it as a worthwhile use of either my typing time or the members' reading time.

• By my very nature, I'm too polite to say anything controversial.

• I've always preferred a way of living which prefers quality as opposed to quantity. This applies to my posts too, I'd rather make ten quality posts in a week as opposed to two hundred emoticon-riddled, single sentence posts of little practical use to anyone.

I'll always help anyone when I see an unanswered question that I know the answer to, I'll always thank a developer and give credit where credit is due. But I won't post just for the sake of it.

That said, I do intend to post a little more in future.

Yeah, i second that. Usually the questions have been answered when i see them. But if they aren't, i try answer to them. Also, why post when i don't have anything wise to say? (now i'm repeating mike's words )

I used to just browse forums and not even register in them. I didn't see useful at the time. But now i see it's worthy, especially here. The community isn't too big, so there aren't so many useless posts which keeps the board cleaner. I just hope that people would do 2 things: Read the rules and USE THE SEARCH FEATURE!!!

mike273: There really are alot of people lurking as guests, and they are very active in browsing, reading and downloading from our forums, yet give nothing in return. Speaking about you specifically, here's what I think:

• Your last post was extremely worthwhile. Thanks for posting. For the first time in my years of posting, somebody has actually used cool bullets when listing their points. I think I'll use them in all of my posts from now on.

• Most of the time people don't make their points well, or the point is made and everyone misses it. Like pouring a solid foundation, sometimes a little reinforcement is necessary. I would have to say at least 15% of my posts could be called 'conversational rebar'.

• How dare you make such extreme, controversial statements?! You offend me sir! (j/j)

•I prefer quality to quantity myself, especially in my skins and icons. It's why I only use about 3 different skins out of the hundreds available. When posting I just assume that some people will post quality comments regardless of length, be it two words or a full page post. Some people just shouldn't post period.

I'm glad your going to post more - from the nature of your reply to this thread I can see that my intent was worthwhile - this thread is encouraging quality members like yourself to give more personal input into the site.

I try not to be controversial too, but sometimes it's difficult not to be, and I will be the first to admit that I can be quite opinionated at times.

I post as often as I can, but I've not been posting as much as I'd like recently for the following reasons:

• I've been home alone, and therefore had lots of housework to do while the parents are away. No, I haven't had house parties, before you ask
  
• I've been working on projects for uni. I've got an essay to write by the 8th of September
  
• I'm working on... Wait for it... As fully featured an iTunes 4 Windows Media Player skin as can be conceived. The only things that v1 will be missing, on release, are CD ripping/burning, and resizing. Yes, these will be in v2. Try to contain your excitement until I release v1 guys...
  

Right, I'd better get back to work.

This is the coolest thing I've found so far though on the iBook. Hit ctrl-alt-cmd and 8. This makes your screen black and white. Then go into System Preferences -> Displays, and choose 'Millions of Colours'.

The result unfortunately can't be screenshotted, but I'll attempt to do justice to this in a photograph.

You have to see it for yourself to do it justice, it's stunning, and quite trippy.

I just did this to my iBook....WHOA!

Very trippy....I love the way my dock icons look. Thanks for the tip...yet another thing to weird me out in my free time!
