Addshadow

Attached is the AddShadow app. It's pretty small, just make sure the ini file is in the same folder as the exe.

Guess I need to be a little more specific about what this app does. :lol:

It instructs WindowFX to add a shadow to a window it would normally ignore. Does not work with Y'z shadow.

The AddShadow.ini file controls which windows are affected. You can designate a window by class name (which is an internal identifier each window has) or by the caption of the window. If anyone needs some help figuring out what class names are associated with some programs, let me know. The ini file that comes with the app will force Winamp3 and QCD to be shadowed.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Great work jef! Thanks loads

#43708

Thanks, I'm sure it's a good app.

Maybe developers can embed it and provide default shadowing on their apps.

(all we'd need to do is exclude those apps from our own y's shadow)

Finally!

/me happy! :surfer dude:

Hi jef,

There are several apps I would like to mod the *.ini file to enabled a forced shadow on.

Is there some tool you would recommend that would enable one to determine the window identifier for a given app?

Thanks in advance,

Grusic

Brilliant work Jef. I love it:)

Hi jef,

I just wanted you to see your program in action on my desktop.

Do you think it would be possible to make it work with Y'z Shadow? :rolleyes:

#43752

Hi jef,

I just wanted to say the more I experiment with your new add shadow app, the more I'm impressed by it.

Now all those programs that I like to use, Rainlendar, RealOne Player, Zoom Player, Aversoft Sticker, etc etc, that don't normally get shadowed by WindowFX are being shadowed like a charm.

Thanks again,

Grusic

#43758

Great work! Is there any way you could have the app automatically recognise new caption titles, and have it add a shadow on ALL windows? Except maybe for an exclusion list, because some apps just dont like having a shadow.

unforunatly it doesnt work out for me.

the ini file is together with the .exe file in their own folder, Wfx is running, and so is 'add a shadow' - yet else changes.

what is happning? is it related to the sp1/non-sp1 issue here?

THANKS JEF! :rock:

same here, the prob is that winamp gets shadowed while QCD don't...any idea any1 ? i've tried changing the ini with QCD's class too but didn't worked neither.

#43764

actually according to grusic's screenshots, he has quicktime skinned so if thats skinned as well, it doesnt work for me either. :cry:

i dont use winamp3 ...

#43768

Goku, I had the same problem, modify your INI this way so that you can skin QCD:

Class=BaseWindow_RootWnd

Caption=QCD Player

Class=PlayerCanvas

Caption=Zoom Player

Class=TApplication

Line 1 skins winamp3

Lines 2 and 3 handle QCD

Lines 4 and 5 handle ZoomPlayer

Also note: you need to recycle AddShadow after changing the ini, or the changes won't take effect (CTRL ALT DELETE and endtask it, then restart)

My pleasure, Goku. :D

Being a 1337 633K is my calling in life. Just ask Godpunk. I have no life outside of 633K-dom. lol

If you have any other windows you want to skin, just ask me, I'll figure out their classes for ya.

i can figure out the classes with mobydock - is that right btw? :naughty:

Actually i need to know how to shadow quicktime - whats the class plz?

------

offtopic, it sais you lurk everywhere its least expected - so since when porn has become one?

#43801

Ok -

Three main requests, one is Quicktime

Second is Kazaa lite (when its skinned and restarted, no shadows get applied to it)

and most of all - COMMAND LINE

if any of you get this - i'll buy you a beer :cheers:

#43812

Goku: If you get cygwin, they have lots of command line choices, all of which get skinned and shadowed. I like RXVT. It has (semi) transparency too.

It does both unix, and regular DOS commands.

two questions:

can you please tell us how did you mod your qt like that?

secondly, can you tell us how to enable shadows for qt?

thank you sir, may god bless you.

#43824

Thanks for this little app. :)

Cheers

Goku:

I think in the screenshot of grusic you actually see zoom-player with a qt skin. It ain´t the real qt.
