Computer Management: Drive H: is healthy And it probably is for the moment.
Event Viewer: Corrupted File System Structure, corrupt/unusable At one time it was... is the error continuing to show up or is this an old log entry?
Chkdsk: nothing. Just means there is nothing wrong right now.
Hardware Management: Drive H: is working properly. And that's all it will report until the drive has a HARDWARE problem.
Your drive obviously has some issues. At the moment you appear to be OK.
But given the event log report and the repeated CHKDSK runs on boot up, something is going bad.
All CHKDSK will do is mark any corrupt sectors that it cannot recover as bad so they will not be written too again. It will never look at those sectors again. If new corrupt sectors show up, it will scream at you again until it can either fix them or mark them as bad.
This usually is a good indication that the drive is going.
It may also may never give you a lick of trouble for the next 10 years.
Drives are funny that way.
I just as soon replace it than sit around hoping it doesn't get any worse.
Juts back up your important stuff until you can afford to get another drive.
I tried doing an error check, it didn't tell me anything, but then again i didnt enable 'repair errors/fix bad sectors'....
maybe i should delete the partition and then just repartition it?
Try that. if that don't work, delete all partitions and create a new NTFS partition. If that don't work then I'd say suck it up and visit EBay. I just got a 250gb hd for $85 with free shipping...theres great deals out there.
The partition table itself may be fine.
If you're going to do something that destructive, do a complete reformat, not a quick one.
If the sectors are truly bad, a full format will hang on those sectors as it attempts to recover them.
It will eventually give up and mark the sectors bad if they are truly bad and continue on.
Just sit and watch while the format is going on.
