iTunes 7.1 Release

ok well we all know that iTunes 7.1 just came out, and sadly it doesnt work with Multi Plugin.

im sure this will be cleared up soon.

So lets discuss whats hot and whats not in iTunes 7.1 shall we?

well the hottest thing ive noticed is the fullscreen CoverFlow, and boy is it sexy!!

what ive also noticed right away is the font change. the fonts look maybe 1 to 1and-a-half smaller in size, and the style has changed (maybe its because im used to MultiPlugin)

When i pluged in my iPod, i noticed that it doesnt say "Updating iPod" anymore, instead its now more "techy" with its, "Syncing iPod" instead. ok, whatever!

another change is that instead of saying "your iPod is up to date" when you select it from the source tree, it also shows when the next check for an update will occur.

The new "appleTV' tab option is now available in the Preferences menu. Oh joy! (hint, hint...)

when i loaded up the iTunes store, ive noticed that the little progress bar that is at the top of the window runs much smoother that the previous version. Thats a little who-cares sort of thing, but it is a change...

Thats pretty much all ive noticed....if you see anything not mentioned, comment about it here!

Now all i need is an AppleTV, and a new copy of Multi-Plugin, and hooray!

EDIT: ya know......im thinking of just leaving iTunes the way it is...i mean, im sort of getting used to having iTunes look like this, and im beginning to like it! The only thing i will change with MP is to use the OS X theme (a theme with MP that looks like the default OS X version of iTunes)

They still haven't gotten all the kinks worked out of it in Vista though. For example whenever I close it, I get an "iTunes has stopped working" message and need to kill the program... oh well.

One other thing that is new for vista users is the min/max/close buttons are now Vista-themed. The coverflow seems faster too :)

#445511

the updated parental controls in preferences allows you to change the rating for different countries (usa/uk/nz/etc)...hinting at video content available outside of the US

I don't really like the fullscreen Coverflow feature, it's just not as good as the original Coverflow for Mac's fullscreen feature....

Just out of curiosity, what's different between the two?

#445540

Yeah, I love the full screen coverflow in 7.1. So pretty! How is the Mac one better?

#445544

Something I noticed as I installed iTunes 7.1, there seem to be default support now to multimedia keys even when iTunes is not in focus (ie. minimized to tray).

I couldn't use Coverflow in fullscreen on windows since I don't have any music now on windows machine... but the Mac one is super duper sexy, and I've been using it extensively.

He is not comparing Mac iTune's Coverflow to Windows iTunes Coverflow....

I think what he means is... it is not as good as original Coverflow app's fullscreen mode... and I somewhat agree on it.

#445549

I don't think the difference is between the current mac and the current window's coverflow.

It's my understanding that it was different for the standalone app.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong

#445550

That's exactly what I said Cola.... and I believe Justin was saying the same thing.

I do miss the feature of search in fullscreen mode, but let's say if you have sorted your list by artist or album.. and if you type the name of artist or album while in fullscreen mode, it takes you there. :D

#445556

@iGo: sorry, we must have commented at the same time :P

yes, Vista functionality isnt fully developed yet, as MS is working with Apple (holy crap, really?!) to fix the problems. Apple suggests staying away from iTunes if you have Vista as if you install it, and you cant get passed the program kill window, you might crash the computer, and you may have to reinstall Vista. That cant be good....

i absolutly love the fullscreen coverflow. its sort of like a way for Windows users to have a Frontrow sort of thing....isnt apple curtious? yay for Apple!!

The Mac version of iTunes 7.1 is actually exactly the same, as i saw as it updated quickly on my Mac....

the only difference of coarse is the Fonts. I want the super-dooper-itunes-patch for the Mac, and Multi plugin for Windows.

boy, i miss Aqua...im getten drawn into this Leopard look/feel...i guess i have to, huh, if i want to get it for my macs...

EDIT: PS- any wispers of Leopards release date?! i heard something of April...then June/July....who knows anymore but does anyone know the latest-and-greatest wisper foatin' about?

#445621

Leopard coming this April is what being strongly speculated... as there is suppose to be quite some hardware refresh this spring.

But I won't be surprised if it goes to June, else we would've be seeing countdown on Apple's website at least month prior to launch.

I'm holding my MBP purchase till leopard.

good choice.

i am waiting for a lot of things from Apple at the moment, but that may be because i believe that Apple has been spoiling us for a long time lol.

I am waiting for...

AppleTV

iPod 6Gen

iPhone

MacPro8core

different color iMacs, MacBooks, etc.

bigger cinema displays

I have a problem with this new iTunes. I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 2002 and never had this problem with iTunes until the new one came out. I have considered reinstalling, but I'm not sure if I'll lose my library. When I try to set iTunes 7.1 to the "Default Audio Player" it gives me the error that I do not have enough user priveleges, though I am the only Admin on this computer. Suggestions?

This happens to me on XP  -3 points for Apple.

Yep :) Apple gets their 3 points back for that.

#445805

Sadly, Coverflow is still non-functional for me (Server 2k3 x64).

The sorting thing looks like it might be useful, but I’ve been building up a similar system for the past year.

Pretty brave, creating an official thread and not even a mod yet :P;).

:-X my apologies....

#445908

If I uninstall iTunes will I lose my library, then?

#445966

Greetings, sadly, it does not work with Multi Plugin as yet. But I am sure a updated version will be available soon, for iTunes 7.1

Latest iTunes hotkeys feature is totally borked tho. On my pc when i press a hotkey it registers twice. So if i press mute it mutes and unmutes in about a second. Same if i try to pause/play. Disgraceful. Should have been tested

#446078

I had that problem on one my office keyboards, but it turned out that Global-Multimedia Keys was causing the conflict... I removed the DLL and it started working just as it should. You might wanna check that.

#446081

Is there some way to downgrade to iTunes 7.0 again until multi-plugin works again? Or does anyone know where to download older iTunes version like 7.0?

Edit.

I like the full screen coverflow.

#446087

I already tried that. Removed from the prog files folder and also from the documents and settings/my username/... folder too. still got the problem :(
