DRM is really stupid. Although the iPod and iTunes wouldnt be what it is today with DRM...
I've never once had a bad experience with DRM. Actually, come to think of it... i've never had an experience with DRM. I'm still sticking with CDs, slowly filling up one of those 300CD carousel things they don't seem to make much any more. Ahh I love it... *brrrrr...click.weeeee*. And the cases look so good all stacked up on the shelf

I srongly agree. Although I have had problems with DRM before, I still shop for CDs rather than purchasing CDs online (I never bought a CD online before) because I just enjoy the bliss of opening the packaging (such a tedious task ) and opening that CD for the very first time to take in that "new smell." I don't have a large amount of CDs or of any tangible media for that matter, but I like to enjoy the freedoms of being able to copy any movie or CD to my computer for my own personal use, and not to distribute to others.
The life span of a CD is not as good as they thought. Initially, everyone thought that a CD can last 100 years. Now that it's been in the market for a couple of decades, they are finding it's more like 15-20 years. I know, my Black Sabbath album became unreadable about 2 years ago. But thankfully not before I ripped it onto my computer. I do use it as a backup device, and some companies don't even want me to do that (see my previous post talking about CD DRM, I use "did", but some still do).
I've had problems that I purchased music from iTunes, and it wouldn't play on my iPod. After emailing Apple about it and getting two responses to follow some steps that did not work, I just decided to burn a CD and re-rip the music off. I still paid $.99 for the song, just now it can play on my iPod.
As for buying physical CD's, I do, but only if it's a band or an album that I care deeply about. I have too much crap taking up enough space, I don't want stacks of CD's lying around is storage rotting when I can save a little cash and get the songs that I want without paying for songs that I would never listen to or don't like from an album.
It's hatred probably more is due to the bad rap it got in the first place. "DRM" sounds like it's just trying to be dirty. Like "Carnivore."

I believe in the end, someone is going to screw over the guy who worked primarily on built-in hardware drm, and in retailiation he will find a workaround for it. You can't stop people when they believe something is wrong, if everything becomes DRM'd, in the end, we're going to end up with digital terrorists...

its probably because "digital rights management" sounds like its managing OUR rights (and when its badly implemented it usually does).
