[release] Update Of Iceman's Dlls In German...

Hello to all germans here in this board (?)...

Till now I used Iceman's shell replacements. But because of all the security holes in M$ Windoze XP, I made a update to all hotfixes till 20.07.2003. Then I exported all the stuff Iceman placed in the dlls, and put it in the new ones:

mshtml.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1106

netshell.dll ver. 5.1.2600.1181

newdev.dll ver. 5.1.2600.1164

shdocw.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1203

shell32.dll ver. 6.0.2800.1233

wmploc.dll ver. 9.0.0.2980

The language is now "1031", german.

You will find the files (PGP-signed) here.

So have phun, and have a look to Iceman's Page.

(I hope everyone is o. k. with this job, if not please send a mail, and I remove...)

Greetings

hcb

P. S. The files are "rared", and if youre system is damaged after applying, it is your problem, I don't pay for anything... ;->

If I forgot something, or ... please send a mail: I'm a modder****ie... :baby:

:own:

Sorry for the problems I caused because:

You need to download all the systemfiles from Iceman!!!

Just replace the files I offered! Tomorrow I will start building a Update, replacing all of the Iceman files to german language.

:-) P. S. This one is "originally" Iceman's - means without any error (on my PCs...).

#42653

Do you have Iceman's permission to release those files??

This brings up an interesting point, btw:

Does Iceman have permission from Microsoft to "share" these files? From Apple?

Please note that I DO think he should ask Iceman due to the work he has put in the creation of the files.

Just an idea,

McTrinsic

thanx und tausenddank !!

war ich immer zu faul für...:)

#42793

Hi,

I don't know if I have Iceman's acknowledgement, because he didn't answered my mail to him... :-) :-(

But I think it is not a question of permission, more a question of respect!

Or?

#42795

no you need his Permisson your useing his files

#42796

Is there a way to change them over to english.

#42798

Changing them to english is a hard job. All you need to do is to change the "1031" to "1033" with ResHacker. Sounds easy, but the only way I know is to do that by hand - several hundred times...

But I'm sure the coder here knew a better way. (I hope so!)

#42813

Sorry for the late hcb, I went out for a couple of days. Just to let you know guys, he saked me for permission and it's granted.

Good job! (Y)

McTrinsic: I think that the only concerning in the credits matter is about being respectful of the job of other members of this forum as hcb stated ;)

Is it just these's that have are changed and not the others, and also is there a quick way to change them.

#42827

Ähhm, sorry, but would you like to tell us the easy way?

#42829

Thats what im asking you guys

#42830

@Iceman

Please note that I did state you deserve respect for your work. And by that I mean especially your great work and contribution to the community.

But thats not the point. I was wondering, after reading things like "you have to ask (insert name here, not necessesarily Iceman) for permisssion" etc.

What I am curious is abou tis the fact that it seems to be demanded that on the one hand you ask someone who may very well hold a copyright in his work, lets say Sascha Höhne (Rad.e8). On the other hand, you (generally, not *you* specifically) ignore the fact that A ) Microsoft holds the copyright of the files, and B ) Apple might have a copyright issue as well for other images - i have never seen anyone demand permission from apple.

Any opinions on this matter?

Have fun,

McTrinsic

#42967

Well... of course you're right in one point, nobody here (At least as far as I know) has asked for permission to use any of the images and/or files property of Apple or MS. But I think that THAT'S not the point.

We aren't using those images to sell anything or to get profit of them, and if I use one or one hundred of the original images made by Apple is due to the fact that this community is about that, only for that and always for that. We're trying to get closer as much as possible with the real thing, aren't we? Are we violating some rules? Of course we are, but we accepted that risk because of the love to OS X.

In the other hand, I made maybe twenty or thirty of the icons used in my system files, started from scratch, using screenshots or other pictures as base and sometimes drawing them in Illustrator and Photoshop starting with a blank canvas. If somebody uses them shall I sue him? Of course not, first off because I haven't copyrighted them and I'd never do it. If I made them was because I wanted to share them and I want the people use them as they want.

That gives anybody the right to use them for their own creations and distribute as he wants? Somebody could be in disagree with me, but I think that yes, it should be in that way ALWAYS that he gives some credit to the original author. That's all what I ask for, and I'm sure that's all what a lot of others skinners, developers, artists, etc. wants for they as well.

So I think it's not about copyrights, it's just for respect to other people that spends loooong hours (I made those files in maybe three weeks or a month) seated at its computers doing things for other people just because they want to contribute to their hobby. That's all.

(Uhhhps, Iceman was faster, it is a reply to McTrinsic) (And sorry for my bad english, it is not my nativ language...)

Hmm, that is a difficult thing, it is!

1. Microsoft has the one and only rights to the files

2. Nothing

We bought the Operating System, so we are allowed to use it. Normally (I didn't read the EULA), we are not allowed to change the content of the files - in the case, that we offer them to the public.

But we can do it for our self, at home, on our machine. The fact is, we are to less people, that M$ will fight us. And what we are doing is not forbidden in itself, as long as we not copy or steal the property of anyone else.

Thats the point were I have to say, that I understand Apple with their "fight" against the very wonderful Y'z Dockl. But they should differentiate a little bit more, this product wasn't sold! And I wan't buy a Mac only because I like to have the dock. It is the Mac as itself I like to have.

So using the design on a PC, should be something like a commercial against M$, or a "hit with a beton pillar" because of their (not only!) not really good plastic design.

So what? Iceman spend a lot of work and time, fun... to give us a great thing. He shared something, everybody could do by itself - so long as you are as good as Iceman and all the others. You need the knowledge of how to handle the files, which files, formats, spend time for testing, writing a RTFM....

Thats why he - and all the other ones too of course - have the right (not only) to receive our respect and thank!

Thats why I asked him if he is alright with me doing a update and a translation to a different language. And that is why I inserted linkz to his hp, and why I definitly told, that it wasn't my work!

So there is now universally way of deciding... Play fair, ask, and show respect for others.

The way the world should turn.

Bye

Hi all...

hmmm i have Windows without SP1... how can i use the german files... ??? They doesn't work with WinXp without SP1.

Hai,

you should use them only, if you have a "german" XP intalled. Otherwise you will get a mix of menu languages (not "Datei" sondern "File"...).

You should have a "offline" PC (not connected to the internet), or other really important reasons not to update. It is really a security risk...

You should avoid a mix of different dll-versions. May make you system really unstable.

I suggest: Update. Otherwise - if nobody else did - you have to rework the non SP1-files by your own.

thx for reply .. i try to update winxp....

#42993

so, how´s the status? any ways to get these files in english for download?

#43018

hi hcb, why you do not transfer all the goodies from iceman and pack systemfiles and tranfered in the german files. i think that's the best way to have a clean german system. sure it brings tons of work with it, but you don't have any language problems.

i do so ;)

#43100

Hi ...

i have install the Service-Pack but i have the same problem...

"Der Prozedureinsprungspunkt "AssolsDangerous" wurde in der DLL "Shlwapi.dll" nicht gefunden.

I have than change the files one by one.. and i have problems with the msgina.dll and shdocvw.dll ... When i try to boot Windows it tells me that something is wrong with the msgina.dll.

Have somebody installed the german files ? Work it on your PC ?

Now i have installed the Mac OSX Transformation Pack that works fine.. Perhaps somebody can make it in german with Iceman's agreement or work together with him, because the most Installwizards are also in englisch.

:D :D :D PLEAAAASEEE :D :D :D
