Tasks V0.2

Ok. After 20 days I managed to write about 3000 lines of code for a docklet (!?). Tasks v0.2 still has bugs and its just a start of were this is going. I hope you can try it out and tell me what you think.

Here are some screenshots:

Tasks - TDock

Please read the tasks_readme.txt prior to asking any questions or provide any suggestions.

Revision History
----------------
v0.2 (07-20-2003)
  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  +  Current Restrictions  +
  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  + Skinning is disabled in this release due to bugs that was prior to this
    release. The skinning engine included in this version still has bugs, so
    you will see skinning problems.
  + All icons must be in the "<yzdock>\docklets\tasks\icons\" Folder
    This means that when selecting an Icon, you have to select it from the:

       <docklet folder>
           + icons       <--- use images from this folder ONLY
           + skins

  + You cannot "Add" an Icon or Exclude a Window Class via the Settings Dialog
  + A window that is set to be ALWAYS ON TOP will always be shown as the
    active icon on the docklet
  + Thumbnail Preview of the active Window is DISABLED
  + Only works when Y'z Dock is set at the bottom position of the screen
  + Docklet doesn't stay magnified when moused moved away after showing
    the popup window

  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  +  Additions & Fixes     +
  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  + All windows are now properly enumarated (to reflect windows taskbar)
  + Users can configure to use the windows icons or replacing them with
    there own PNG depending on the WindowClass
  + Users can exclude any window by adding it to the INI file
  + A "taskslist.txt" file is created everytime there is a change of windows
    in the environment. It lists the current active windows with there
    respective WindowClass
  + Created the popup window using PNG graphics extracted from a "skins" folder
    Skinning images now include:

        right.png  -- the right image portion of the window
        middle.png -- the background image used for the window
        left.png   -- the left image portion of the window
        select.png -- the background image behind the active window icon
        arrow.png  -- the arrow pointing to the docklet

  + The window is now transparent which can be of any shape
  + Automatic resize of icons depending on quantity & monitor size
  + Handle popup window from going off the screen (handle arrow as well)
  + Added mouse hooks: onMouseOver, LeftClick, RightClick and MiddleClick
  + Added keyboard hooks: Control & Shift
  + Added controls/functions to the mouse & keyboard hooks
  + Add the popup menus when right clicking the docklet or the icons on the
    window
  + Add icon selection for window class via popup menu instead of changing INI
    file manually (avoids a restart of the docklet) -- may be moved to v0.21)
  + Add window to exclusion list via popup menu instead of changing INI file
    manually (avoids a restart of the docklet) ---- may be moved to v0.21

  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  +  TODO List (v0.21)     +
  ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
  + Make the Task Dock work for all screen positions
  + Fix Skin background bug

Its wonderfully responsive and smooth transitions.

Request:

Will there be any way to keep the Docklet magnified

when mouse moves away after showing the popup window?

Cool thanks albeik!. Very nice update! :D

And I waiting for the Task Dock work for all screen positions feature!

thanks again!

The onlly thing I don't like about this version, that I hope will change in the future is when I set custom PNG's for applications, the settings are erased when I reboot or restart Yz dock. Is this problem just me, or is it an existing problem??

Other than that, great work. Can't wait for the next release !!!

@FatAxl

After you have everything saved the way you want it...

...Right-Click the task docklet..choose Settings...then click the "Save to INI File" button...done.

#41587

I did that and it works great !! Thanks for the help.

:( ~(I'm not sure but I think I found a bug??)

Here goes:

When you have enough windows open that requires the task docklet to show them with small icons ( as I seem to have all the time), on first click of the task docklet it shows all of them with small icons. On next click of the task docklet, it shows large icons (and they all don't show).

The next click on task docklet shows all with small icons.

This continues to toggle back and forth until you have fewer windows open (bringing back large icons).

This is something I hope can be adjusted, as I seem to have many windows open all the time, and its becoming annoying.

No Complaining here...just an observation...read my praise above.

Darn. I knew I should've tested it when I did changes to that part of the code. :shy:

I'll work on fixing that for next release.

And thanks everyone for your kind comments. I really appreciate it! :)

You need to make sure you take it from the correct folder.

You can only take the images from the folder:

\docklets\tasks\icons\

Any other folder will not display the image

I'm loving this, very very nice.

One suggestion though, when you set the transperency of the task menu, it also effects the icons, is there a way, to exclude the icons from being transparent?

This docklet has come a long way, you should be very proud of yourself, for putting the time and effort into this. It is people like you that make this community what it is, and speaking for everyone here I have to say I'm greatly appreciative of the work and devotion the developers put into these things.

Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#41626

This is simply amazing. What a great work you've done albeik. I'm impressed.

I would just add a feature to add to 0.21, when the mouse goes away from the tasks window, can you make it close ?

Use TrackMouseEvent() to do this :)

Execpt from that it's perfect :)

EDIT:

and you GOTTA tell me how you've done the rounded window :)

#41632

:( ~(May have stumbled across another bug?)

Here goes:

It seems that when right-clicking on an individual icon (program/window) in the task docklet (and choosing close)....it doesn't seem to close all programs.

The three that I've noticed so far:

1. Any folder

2. The Task Docklet "Settings" Window

3. A search program I use "AvaFind"

Now I admit it may be my system...but wondering if anyone else notice this.

Just an observation...

Cheers

Try resetting the icons with the"Change icons of this type" comand. I had this problem, ¿maybe it doesn't load the icon class in some cases?

Great job Albeik, cheers

No,

You cant use icon fils, you need to have pngs in there otherwise you will that black border around it.

#41640

@photo678

I meant png icons! The prob that i think our friend had was that his pngs came out with a black border. The same happened to me and I noticed they weren't listed in the settings dialogue. Resetting them solved the problem. Maybe we unzipped the docklet wrong or something.

Seeya!

#41641

No he says that the ico files have a black border, but the pngs come out fine.

At least that is what I think he meant :canadian:

#41642

:rolleyes: You're probably right, excellent app though!
