Sure you can't go for an iBook or PowerBook or whatever the Notebooks by Apple are called?

Yeah Taha, you're definitely right! Yes, the design isn't everybody's style but i love the black cases, that cool understatement! And it doesn't look so usual as all the other notebooks! Well the T-series is a little bit too expensive for a poor student like me 
But the R-series is great quality as well, a little more heavy, but i don't need such a light notebook either.
I bought a toshiba laptop for university in the month before university started.
go for a pentium m if you can afford and if you can wait, a radeon 9600, which is a dx 9 part i think.
i regret buying a laptop - if i was there again i would go for a desktop which i could upgrade as the year goes on. i bought this thing about 9 months ago and it can't cope with any new games. not even a chance of being able to play doom III :cry:

Well, a laptop isn't made for gaming... The goal is to have a light, portable, quiet pc. But for gaming you'll need high performance => high power consumption => high processor temperature => the cpu fan must work to cool => noise from the fan. Of course there are some laptops with enough performance due to a desktop cpu. But these heavy, noisy machines with accu capacity for only one hour don't deserve the name laptop in my opinion :-) And they can't be upgraded, too...
So if you want to play the newest games, you have to stay with a desktop - it's the cheaper way, too!

Yes I'm waiting for the sager system coming out next month with a Radeon 9600 128 MB and Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with HT and 512 MB DDR 333 RAM...
But can someone please confirm that the Radeon-M 9600 is a DX9 card?

yeah, but if you're happy with just playing for a few minutes, coz the batteries will die after a few minutes.
