Winexpos

try: www.otakusoftware.com

there is program called "Top Desk"

it costs money, but is very customizable and works perfect!

If you have Windos Vista and Aero, also try Switcher:http://insentient.net/

Yes, you can disable the numbers shown in the screenshots.

A tip for a maybe-quick-fix:

Try resizing your wallpaper (the .jpg you are using) to make it smaller (better: make it be the same size that of your screen size).

I know Windows resizes the picture to fit in the screen, but WinExposé can't screenshot the desktop, so it loads the wallpaper by itself, and maybe it has problems with too big wallpapers.

What is your wallpaper size? Does resizing the wallpaper work? What video board do you have?

I tried to change of size my wallpaper and it works, I have using 2560*1600 size on my 1650*1080 screen.. thx

hi .. great app, matonga ..

I know WinExpose is discontinued, but can I have a feature request? It's really a simple one..

I want to use WIN key as modifier instead of Ctrl and Alt..

thanks..

#483179

Is it really discontinued any free clones or alternatives for this program?

Kirk

#483190

Seeing as it was last updated on November 28th i'd say it was still being sporadically developed. Link

It's not exactly discontinued, its just not on the top of matonga's list at the moment.

#484278

Sorry, but the little problem is that the code is about fading the background and not about resizing wich is the point of expose. Well, i hope it's usefull for you.

Either i attach the code.

Good look and thank you for your work

firstly thank u matonga for the great app, secondly i think theres a bug with rocketdock and KKmenu, when i use expose the screen keeps flickering and twitching, seen that before?

#484320

It smells like problems with layered windows.

Interaction between layered windows, DirectDraw/Direct3D, OpenGL and hardware overlays is poorly implemented in MS Windows. This is sad as I can't solve it by myself and have to work around about it (but don't know how).

Oh by the way I managed to detect frozen apps, so stay tuned as a new version may come which won't freeze whenever an app freezes.

I can't promise anything just now, as I'm considering to rewrite WinExposé from scratch.

#484409

cool application,,thanks

#485045

the best thing about WinExpose was that unlike all the other clones out there, when you select a window (even if the expose animation wasn't complete,) the desktop would snap back into place with the window selected at the forefront. Very nice!

@ Matonga~ with all your project (Flying Cow, WinExpose, Stacks,) I do not mean to add more to your plate but if you do rewrite WinExpose~ consider adding some 'physics' to the animation similar to the snap&bounce found in coverflow/compiz.

By the way Matonga, you have single handedly made logging in and reading posts at AquaSoft much more exciting lately. Thanks for that :)

#485085

Hmmm probem using winexpose. When I launch it, It doesn't do anything. However there is a invisible box on my desktop, when I slide other windows on top of it, the window that I slide over it goes behind it... For example, if I take my browser and drag it in front of it, I have a big white box in the middle of my browser... So the application is there apparently, but is hiding ;)

#486200

Wow, its cool !!!!!!!! But.. Is it discontinued >_< ??

#486206

I can't even get it working on both of my pc's....

#486367

awesome!

was literally searching the net for something just like this and once again i find it on these forums ;)

great job!

#486721

Hi matonga, :)

I have just joined here because of this great program of yours! :)

I tried practically every Exposé clone there is, but yours works and looks best! Congratulations and thanks for your great work! ;)

But of course, after trying it for a few days, I have found a few imperfections and, hoping that you are still going to develop it further, I would like to suggest a few things... I hope they are useful to you! :)

It would make it more of a real Alt-Tab replacement if:

- it would cache previews, so that there is no delay anymore when going into Exposé mode;

- it could select windows by the Tab/Shift-Tab and/or cursor keys;

- it would initially select the 2nd window in the Z-order, just as Alt-Tab does.

It would look better if:

- the window restore animation is disabled/hidden by WinExposé;

- windows are enlarged when hovering over them with the mouse;

- the setting "Texture size=Normal" would actually be better than "Half size"; now it just appears sharper, but "Half size" can be read better.

And there are three small bugs:

- transparent windows are not shown at all;

- all minimized windows are brought to the top of the Z-order;

- and when coming out of Exposé mode, the windows flicker once.

I hope this is helpful to you and I'm looking forward to any new versions! ;)

Freddy :)

#489144

Thanks Freddy for your feedback.

I cannot implement these:

- the window restore animation is disabled/hidden by WinExposé;

Believe I tried this one, but I couldn't make it work. The user can still disable those animations by himself in My computer, Properties, Advanced options, Visual effects.

- transparent windows are not shown at all;

Can't implement this in Windows XP, sorry (well, I could but it would involve heavily hacking the system, and it is too complicated, I've always planned to do another project just for this capability).

- and when coming out of Exposé mode, the windows flicker once.

That's right. I can make them not to flicker, but then the result is worse, they won't paint themselves after, so I left them flicker is just the best option by now.

Suggestion:

Are you using Vista with Aero enabled? In such case, have you tried Switcher? http://insentient.net/ It works fine, not so smooth as WinExposé but has live previews and all the good stuff one can do with Vista and Aero.

I'm not likely to implement this:

- windows are enlarged when hovering over them with the mouse;

I hate this effect :), I would indeed implement it anyway to make users happy, but I'm busy with other stuff by now.

#489162

Matonga, I cant seem to download WinExpose. It gives me a 404 error everytime I click on your link ??

#489184

Hi matonga, :)

and thanks for the quick response! ;)

I'm still on XP, so that's why yours is simply the best! ;)

I understand why you can't/won't do some of the things I mentioned (except the transparent problem, as most of the (otherwise inferior) alternatives can do this?). I found one more bug this evening (the last one here below), so together the list now is:

It would make it more of a real Alt-Tab replacement if:

- it would cache previews, so that there is no delay anymore when going into Exposé mode;

- it could select windows by the Tab/Shift-Tab and/or cursor keys;

- it would initially select the 2nd window in the Z-order, just as Alt-Tab does.

It would look better if:

- the setting "Texture size=Normal" would actually be better than "Half size"; now it just appears sharper, but "Half size" can be read better.

And there are four small bugs:

- all minimized windows are brought to the top of the Z-order;

- windows belonging together are shown separately, like Open/Save windows and their "parent windows".

I hope you can find the time to implement these things, especially the ones in Bold, and make WinExposé even better! ;)

Thanks again!

Freddy :)

P.S.: And yes, a working link would be great too! ;)

#489196

Hi again matonga, :)

I hope you forgive me... :P but I found one more bug ;) and have one more request, so together with the new one from the previous post, this now makes:

Bugs:

- windows belonging together are shown separately, like Open/Save windows and their "parent windows";

- Exceptions were previously stored in HKLM, but now in HKCU, whereas the Settings window still looks for them in HKLM, making you lose all your Exceptions every time you change a setting.

Request:

- it would be nicer if the Window Title Box over the previews would be slightly transparent, not obscuring the preview too much.

Freddy :)

#489378

And a final request: ;)

- it would be great if you could also expose only windows belonging to the active program, for example all your open IE windows; this is Apple Exposé's original F10 behaviour!

Freddy :)

#489480

WinExpose crashes on startup when using directx but works well in software mode.

I'm using XP Pro Sp2

#489800

Hi matonga, :)

I just found one more annoying bug: :( whenever you leave the exposé mode, an invisible window (probably process name WinExposeWnd) is left high in the Z-order (number 2 actually)!

This is annoying because, for example, mouse speed and special button settings (that are not active in exposé mode), are returned to default when you close the top-most window (and that invisible window takes control again)...

So it would be great if that invisible window was either removed completely from the Z-order, or at least put Always-On-Bottom.

Thanks again in advance! ;)

Freddy :)

P.S.: And one more small request: put in a small delay before the mouse corners activate WinExposé, so that you're not exposed :P when your mouse slips into a corner for a moment.

@babyscholar:

I think AutoHotkey can do what you want. I'm not a programmer but people say it has a scripting language that's very easy to learn.
