XP's MSStyles will not work in Vista. However, there will be a new MSStyle format that is customizable. gcnaddict of AeroXperience is already working on a Beta 2-compatible Watercolor MSStyle that work with and without Glass enabled.
So if anyone finds those cursors please post them here that would be fantastic!

i'm using beta 2. a couple of little things here and there, but otherwise, pretty damn solid.
Shmengie, can I use like all programs I have on this machine?
Like Adobe Creative Suite products, trillian, itunes, firefox and such things..?
Is the system slower than or what?
out of those progs, i've only got firefox installed right now. i'm trying give wmp11 a chance before i install itunes. so far, the only thing i haven't got working is avedesk. not surprising, as the whole graphics subsystem is different in vista. as for speed, it's at least as fast as xp, if not faster. it's really surprisingly stable and robust for a beta.
The new MSStyle format allows the Glass style and reflection map to be customized via a PNG stream that's embedded in file itself. Other than that, the MSStyles work generally the same way. I'm sure somebody will release a SkinStudio-like program for the Vista MSStyles eventually.do you know if the vista msstyles have better abilities in therms of skining then the old ones?
Also, Adobe CS2 programs seem to work fine on Beta 2.

I have a feeling that transitioning from XP to Vista may be difficult for middling users (compared to OS X, but that's a tough standard to live up to). I installed it myself and it was difficult to get a handle on for a little bit. Of course, it's still in beta stage.

I really liked how Beta 2 looked and felt. Like Shmengie, I found it pretty damn stable, albeit a bit slow with 512 of RAM (when they say recommended they really mean should have. The only thing I couldn't stand and what eventually turned me off of Vista is the constant security requests. Even so much as to empty the trash bin. Even with an Adminstrator account.
They need some sort of Keychain-like set up that where I could whack a password information file on to a USB flash drive and it would bypass all the security popups...or something in the OS where I enter a seperate password once on startup and it does the same thing until next startup.
@NC: I suspect you might be correct. But perhaps that is why they released WMP11 beta so much earlier than Vista. Possibly to get everyone acclimated to the new cookie-crumb style of browsing through the explorer?
It sounds like a good theory, in my head at least. 
Sranshaft, if you turn off UAC, all the nagging prompts for permissions go away. Of course, a lot of these things will be gone by RC1, Microsoft knows they overdid it.

yup, that's why the first thing i'm doing on my vista boxes is disabling the ****ing uac. although, ms is aware of the overly intrusive nature of uac right now and are working to make it...umm...a more pleasant experience.

i used the beta 2 for 1 hour and then had to pull the plug on it... damn netgear wireless adapter won't work and with no driver support yet from the company, it's pointless for now to have it installed for me.
anyone else use the WG111T adapter and got it working?
(sucks also, cause i decided to buy a nice new H.D. for vista since my XP drive is kinda small and now i don't need it for a while until i can get this working...)

@neal: okay, itunes is installed and working perfectly, as is acrobat. i'll give cs2 a try later today, but, i can't see why it wouldn't work. hell, i even got pc-cillin anti-virus running WITH real-time. (okay, it's specifically a vista build. but, it's free!) i think i'm gonna uninstall the a/v, though. let's SEE how secure vista is, eh?
edit:edit: in case anyone's wondering...neither avedesk nor kapsules nor samurize nor yahoo widgets runs under vista. well, gonna go blow my brains out...
you fail to mention that winamp works fine and for a poor replacement for widgets the sidebar can sorta suffice
ps have you tried finding the sidebar folder, moving widgets to it and renaming .widget to .part to see if it works?
yes, i did not mention winamp cuz no one asked and i don't use it. so, i didn't fail at anything.
interesting idea about the widgets. does that work for you?
shmengie - I downloaded it now, and I will give it a try once I have Nortons' Ghost installed (which doesn't work right now - anyone know an alternative?).
A couple more things:
* Does Vista allow MacAdress changes natively by now?
* Trillian - have you tested it?
* OpenOffice?
* VLC? - I don't expect this to work, but would kinda neat - or how do you watch videos?

It's highly possible I'm mistaken, but I always that MAC addresses were pretty much impossible to change, regardless of what platform you're using :confused:.
