got the beta, got the key, made free space on my external drive ... only one question there ... how do i install it on an external drive? it defaultly installs on the C partition, because that is my current system partition. should i intall it from MS-DOS? or how?
Boot on the DVD (Vista) and install it on the proper drive, right ? ...

I have the public release of Vista working like a charm! It's slow on my PC, but I just can't give uo the interface!

same thing happend to me, after about an 2 hours of the gray bar moving from left to right over and over again, i gave up and had to use my restore disks

Installed Vista 64-Bit in an hour. Working, Microsoft rating of 3.0
Actually Uses all 15 GB necessary for installation. Installed on a 30GB partition.
Here's what's supposed to happen if you're lucky:
After burning the ISO onto DVD, I shut down my computer and disconnected my Primary Harddrive (the one with my OS installed).
Booted Up to the DVD and was greeted with a blank screen with a gray loading bar.
About 1 min later, it booted into the DVD. Showed the Vista Login background and loaded for about 10 mins.
After it loaded, the Installation setup was similar to Mac 10.4. From here, you accept license agreements, enter the key, enter information, and select which partition to format/install.
Took me about 30 mins for the installation process. During the 3rd step, the computer restarted, but continued with the installation after that.
Vista booted after the installation was completed.
Since I used the 64-bit version, I was unable to get Divx and such codecs to work. My Motorola wireless card was automatically picked up, and a DVD codec had been implemented by Microsoft.
AIM was not compatible with Vista, but Windows Live Messenger BETA works. Firefox works.
DirectX 10 is installed by default. Couldn't get Rakion(game) to boot up as it gives me an error during update. I've heard that CS:S is able to load, but runs with some problems, but I haven't given it a go yet.
Now I'm just playing around with the features. Pretty good, reminds me of Tiger.
Hopefully I should be able to use Vista over my friends house next weekend. I almost put it on my computer here, but I diddn't want to have to deal with duel booting crap. (I only have one hard drive)

i got it working after the 2nd time, maybe my computer restarted wrong, anyway i agree with tauhshi, but it must be my 512MB ram...
now if only i could find my 512MB memory stick....i could use it as RAM!
I'm downloading it manually through MY OWN internet download manager/accelerator (not the built-in one they provided) and I'm getting 700-800kb/s. It's been about 30 mins and I got 36more to go. ^^
I got rid of Vista the day after I got it mainly because I didn't get Aero glass, the whole reason I wanted it (who cares about security as long as it looks cool ) I've got Office 2007 Beta though. It's...different, I gotta say that.
