Mac Dual Booting Jaguar And Panther...how?

I am most likely going to order my new Mac Laptop here soon in the next few days.. I would like to know how do I dual boot the regular factory installed Jaguar with the new Panther ( a friend got me a copy of Panther from the WWDC, when he arrives back here)?

I know how to do this in windows and linux without problems, but have no clue what tools to use to create a partition for Panther, or how to go about it.

The reason for the dual boot is so that I dont hose up my original Jaguar install from the factory.

Eventually when it is released Ill just buy a full copy of Jaguar.

So if you know how to do this or what tools or software I need to do it please let me know.

make a partition using some partitioning software, then install in the other partition.

Only other option is to boot off an iPod..

Well if you have 2 partitions just boot off the panther cd and install to the 2nd partition, then if you want to change which to boot in, before you restart inside the os, there is a boot manager or something just select which one you want and wala thats it, now there might be a menu now, its been about a year since I've daul booted with jaguar, and 10.~

OK, This all sounds like windows, but what do you use on OSX to create partitions?

Is Diskwarrior used for this?

I think I might buy the g5 with the money from the purchase of the powerbook, after all a 32-bit processor is not likely to last very long in th enew world of 64-bits. So since that's your decision H4rM, I'll have to respect it, maybe you can pass the panther my way. Can you upload it to Aquaxp irc, or put it on Kaaza/Bit-torrent for the whole community to download? I'm very serious about this.

32bit isn't going anywhere. when 99% of homes use it, its not going to disappear overnight.

You can create partitions using the OSX install disc.

I have decided to wait until after July's Macworld. If they release the new 15" laptop with a G5 in it, Ill buy that, otherwise Ill order another 17" Powebook since they probably wont be updating the laptops until next year.

to do partitions boot off the osx or panther (if u want to daul boot always install the older os first)

put the osx cd in the tray slot whatever and close it, restart your computer and hold down the "c" button this will boot of the cd, okay.... lol, anyway osx installer has a menu bar at the top, in one of the items has disk utitility in that you make partitions and all, its pretty much common sense after u see the app.

I'm waiting until September when Apple starts shipping Powermac G5's, hopefully by then there will be a joint release of Powerbook G5 and OS X Panther. Has anyone installed Panther? How stable is it?

I got my hands on a copy of the Developer release that was given away at WWDC. I want to dual-boot my iBook, so I know I have to partition my hard-drive to install both. I use my iBook for work, so using Panther as the primary OS isn't an option.

I took a look at the Disk Utility app at the beginning of the Panther Installer, it says I have to format my HD to partition it (unless I'm reading something wrong). Is there anyway to partition my HD without having to format it?

I couldn't wait so I installed Panther on one of the demo machine's at work. I noticed the title bar's too, I would assume it's just not enabled.

Expose is simply amazing. The login cube effect is pretty darn cool too. The new Finder and method to connect to server's is awesome.

The developer release isn't quite as stable as I'd like though...

If you want to put a partition on your computer use partition magic.
