CD Art Display RC4 (formerly Winamp CD Case)

ichik,

The module that makes the searching does not provide such information.

If I find a way I'll surely add your suggestion.

#385607

I just got home and am testing out the new build.. before hooking up the iPod, I ran CAD and iTunes playing songs on random.

I double clicked on CAD's cover and got this message:

-------

Z:MusicRootSinglesSong - Name.mp3

44

Song - Name

-------

I'm running my music library off of a NAS (Network Access Storage) drive... I have an external drive connected to a switch then to my router and I've mapped the drive to the letter "Z" This may account for the Number 44.

Now I attach my iPod and play a song in it's library. I double click on CAD's cover and get this:

ipodidvalue3wl.png

And just by doing the above, I experienced the folder.jpg of the previous song (A) in (Folder A) get applied to the next song (B) on the iPod (song (B) did not have an embedded album cover,) and song (B) being unrelated to the previous song (A.) So the problem is still there.

Thanks again Carlospr, I hope you can fix this *crosses fingers*

Another attempt: http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/cadrc4b125.zip

In this new build CAD will ignore any song that does not have a valid local path.

As I said before I don't have an iPod so I can't make even a basic test before posting here another build.

Thank you for your patience! :)

#385638

Well, I took the new build for a test run before bed as I will be away from the iPod again tomorrow at work. Now, when going from the iTune's local library to the iPod library, CAD just stays on the one cover when playing songs on the iPod and the cover never changes. You can still search and embed album art, it simply stays on that cover.

One last note: The above image I posted seems to be how songs are represented on the iPod, the number is now on 47186 with the song name. The number seems to stay the same however the name of the song changes to be the same as the song playing currently. But as you can see, now the number is always shown as 47186, but earlier, about 4 hours ago, and before an iTunes shutdown and restart, the number was 47180... I tried shutting iTunes down and restarting to see if the number would change, but it came up with 47186 again.. odd. Anyways I hope this helps in the mean time. :)

Thank you again.

You said that if a song is from iPod the cover never changes, right? Is the "nocover" image? And if the iPod song already has a cover? Does CAD display it?

I wish Apple would send me an iPod! :D

#385799

With further tests:

It seems that when I first change from playing random songs in iTune's local library to the iPod, the first song i click in the iPod, CAD successfully changes the album-art to the song's embedded album-art. (If I the first song I click on in my iPod library does not have any album-art, CAD successfully shows no-cover as well.) But after that, it gets stuck on that first album cover (or NO album-cover) of the first song. From then on, it does not matter if the song has or does not have album art, it is simply stuck on the cover.

If I search for a new cover for a song and apply, that Cover is now shown in CAD but that cover becomes the 'Stuck' cover until the next search and apply etc.

If I hit reload, the album cover reloads correctly, but that becomes the 'stuck' image, etc.

I hope this helps :)

#385831

firecracker6

I think now I know why it gets "stuck".

When a song is from iPod, iTunes always send a null string as the song's location.

But CAD only changes the cover it finds that the location has changed.

Now CAD will change the cover if it finds a different Album. Maybe we can have a better result.

Hi Carlos,

There's an issue with CAD, Winamp 5.21, and streaming media (webcast, shoutcast, net-radio, etc.).

I have my Notifier text set-up as follows:

Line one text

%title%

Line two text

%artist%%newline%%album%

I get a display that has the Title being doubled as the Album. (Please see the attached thumbnail)

It's not a big deal, but it looks a little odd.

Also, with streaming video type *.nvs (Shoutcast TV), CAD is not displaying the stream name, but rather the URL.

For AOL TV streams, CAD displays the Artist as Web-radio.

Thanks for your efforts...

Hi Nirodha,

This is something to be improved. CAD gets really few information about the current web radio and not all of them pass the same kind of information. Even my Winamp never shows the artist, only the URL.

iTunes has a better web radio interface but not perfect too.

In a future version, I think CAD should by pass the user text settings and show only the information it gets.

Thank you for your feedback!

#385934

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for the fast response, and you're welcome regarding the feed-back. If you like, I'm happy to help you work out the values passed by the various streaming protocols.

I may contact the Winamp developers and ask them to provide some information about this.

#385968

Thank you, with changing CAD to observe the Album string, build126 fixes the iPod issue! Thank you :)

However, there is the an issue now where if you are in a folder (Album'A') and Song'A' within that folder has album art embedded and you play that song'A', then CAD will display the image. Then the next Song'B' plays and does NOT have album-art embedded, but it will still display since the album'A' has not changed.

Now if we had first entered Album'A' by playing Song'B' which does NOT have album-art embedded, then CAD does NOT show the cover-image, then the next song is Song'A' which DOES have album-art embedded, then CAD DOES NOT show the cover-image.

There is also the problem that even if you have a folder.jpg in the album'A' folder, CAD will not update the album-art anymore. If Song'A' is played first, or if Song'B' is played first, then Song'B' will be updated but Song'C' etc.. will NOT be updated after that.

1) Problematic scenario: what would happen in instances where the album text is left blank. If you receive a null string for Album, could you have CAD, then check if Artist has changed, then Song title etc?

2) For the issue where 2 songs with same album (with folder.jpg) and song1 has album art but song2 does not have album art but CAD does not update song2 with folder.jpg - Maybe CAD can check if the Album = Same & SongTitle != previous, etc.

firecracker6 and Nirodha,

Build 130: http://www.closetosoftware.com/temp/cadrc4b130.zip

:)

#386166

The new build works beautifully so far with both iTunes and the iPod!! I will continue testing over the weekend for consistency.. but so far the issue described earlier is fixed.

I have run across one issue. When playing a song on the iPod, I do a search and find an album cover using the defaulted search text and click 'apply' but am told that the "C:Program FilesCD Art DisplayTemp" Folder does not exist, please see screenshot. I clicked apply on the LEFT MOST cover in the search window. Maybe the "/"s? So far, it does this with this one song but not others.

#386190

firecracker6,

Nice screenshot! Are you using WB5? If so what's the theme?

#386203

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for the new build. While I do like the Album coming up as 'Unknown' for Shoutcast, I feel it might be more useful if you were to parse out the metadata -- such as 'Stream name' and 'Current title' -- and use it for the %album% and %title% in these instances.

The MP3 Stream Info Box (please see the attached thumbnail) has this data available to it, so I would imagine that Winamp's API makes it avialable to developers as well.

Thanks again for all your efforts.

P.S. I just had another idea: You may want to have the a 'Letters (max)' for each line of Notifier text, as opposed to an over-all global option. This would be particularly useful, I feel, if you do manage to parse the Title and Stream name as sometimes these are rather long -- particularly the Stream name -- and users may not want to have it cut off, but would still wish to limit the Title.

I'm only trying to help you improve your already wonderful program :)

I have a feature request Carlospr :)

My music library has many "Single Mix" Folders. E.g. 80's Music Folder with Songs from different artists, albums. The problem is, I will be playing music and return to find that all of the songs now have the same cover-art embedded due to the folder's folder.jpg being used by CAD. However, I really find using CAD with the folder.jpg option useful for updating my collection. Could you please implement the following which would solve all my problems..

requestsuggestion7ov.th.png

With this addition,

CAD would simply ignore the "Local cover search pattern" (e.g. folder.jpg) in folders which contain the wildcard within the song's folder name.

e.g. If the user specify *singles* as the wildcard, then everywhere in their library that there is a folder with singles as part of the name, the songs will not auto-apply a cover-image to the song even if there is a 'folder.jpg' image in the song's folder. And this way, the user can still have the option checked: "Save as folder.jpg in song's folder too" as well.

Please consider this request as currently with CAD, even if I manually go and delete these incorrect cover images applied by CAD from the song (while the song is playing,) CAD immediately reapplies the song art before I can do anything further. This would indirectly solve this problem as well.

Thanks again Carlospr

I did a mod of the Noire skin (bah, nothing impressive, just to show you how I like your program)

left3ej.jpg

Thanks!

Where can I get this mod?

#386647

Nirodha

Winamp SDK is not Visual Basic friendly. Anyway, as soon as I find some way to get more information I'll surely improve the feature.

firecracker6

I'll see what I can do in a future release. For now the better way to avoid that is disable the filter (leave it blank) and the save as folder.jpg feature.

andy_rose

Here's a link to Blade's "Noire Left" mod (original by KSoft):

http://www.closetosoftware.com/download/cadskins/Noire Left.zip://http://www.closetosoftware.com/down.../Noire Left.zip://http://www.closetosoftware.com/down.../Noire Left.zip

Thanks again KSoft for the original skin and Blade for the left alternative!

#386854

I appreciate it Carlospr :) Right now, one of the useful features of CAD is that once you search once for an album cover, CAD can update the entire album pretty much unattended, the only scenario that sufferes though is the one where folders contain various artists. But disabling the filter disables entire album updating as well unfortunately.

Thanks for the update Carlospr, will try it out in a few minutes.

EDIT: Quick observations:

1) With a dual monitor setup, placing CAD on the second monitor and while adjusting the volume via the mouse scroll wheel positioned on the cover of CAD, the volume tool tip is stuck on the 1st monitor's closest most edge.

2) While playing a song in iTune's local library

a) go into CAD's Control Panel, and delete the "folder.jpg" from the "Local cover search pattern" text box, and then hit apply.

B) the next song which currently's playing is in an album folder with a folder.jpg cover-art file but the song does not have any embedded albumart.

c) CAD displays an empty case (This is OK and is expected)

d) Navigate to the song's folder in Explorer and drag the folder.jpg onto iTunes "Drag Album Artwork here..." box.

e) Album art gets embedded in song and iTunes now displays the album art, but CAD still displays an empty case.

f) Right-click on CAD's case and 'reload' the cover.

g) PROBLEM: CAD does not reload and show the album-art. (it used to work properly)

f) go into CAD's Control Panel, and observe that the "folder.jpg" TEXT within the "Local cover search pattern" text box has re-appeared. And in fact no matter how many times you set that text field to nothing, the string reappears.

3) For some reason, the progress bar can fastforward with the left mouse button, but I can never get it to fast rewind with the right mouse button. Still does not work for me.

Thanks again :)

Use your program from the beginning with a lot of pleasure .. now I have the newest version from your site but there was in an older version my favourite skin called aero and it had very nice standard font but in the new version it's unfindable..

skin5xm.png

and I also miss the option that you can use different sizes of fonts in more than two lines...

hope you can add those futures/skins/and fonts again!!

thanks in advance!

ps: the very last thing.. it uses a lot more system resources... any option to less the needed system resources?

or can I else get a RC1 or RC2 release...???

or just tell me what font i used in my screenshot

edit: Maybe also possible to have three lines and between the lines the same space...?? like in my screenshot!

1) Aero Glossy skin (I forgot to add it in the skin gallery): http://www.closetosoftware.com/download/ca...Aero_Glossy.zip

2) Font: you still can set the size for each line as well as color too; the font used on you screenshot is Verdana

3) System resources: Windows and Visual Basic run-time will handle the memory usage (CAD won't hold RAM for itself). In addition, the way you configure CAD the CPU usage is almost zero. Sorry but I don't understand why you've mentioned this.

Thanks for the update Carlospr, will try it out in a few minutes.

Please try build 135 (issue #2):

By the way, what iTunes version are you using?

The progress bar feature is workin on two PCs I'm testing. Make sure to use a skin that does not cover the progress bar (e.g. Noire covers it).
