A few new programs from Four13 Designs

@patsome: do you get a list of 6 stations in the 'Preset Stations' submenu? Have you tried to select one of them? The menu will say 'Please select station...' until you do. Let me know so I can help you further. Also, try adding a station and seeing if it appears in the 'Preset Station' submenu as well.

Glad your enjoying NetGazette.

@irefoy: thankyou :D glad to hear it. To delete a feed open the config file and delete the entry from there. I'll be adding in an easier way to delete feeds in the update. Still figuring out an elegant way of going about it.

Thanks, Sranshaft. RadioFree with Di.fm is now a permanent part of my DT...

Nice gadgets. Smooth install. Excellent

Noticed you used AutoIt. Do you like it? :)

Got away from playing around with it since the new AveScripter releases.

#382204

Wow!.. Thanks Sranshaft. But, I can't wait VideoShelf..

#382207

@SirSmiley: I use AutoIt to hook into certain aspects of windows otherwise unattainable through VBscript alone. The interface design and packaging is done through DesktopX. I might try getting into the actual AutoIt program so I can start utilizing some of the form creation.

#382222

I saw that it was gadget because for some reason I got the typical DesktopX menu once. Don't worry it hasn't been duplicated.

Actually, I've been playing around with the gui side of AutoIt for the past hour. Didn't realize the extent of the features. Sweet little addition to help with DesktopX though.

Thanks for the inspiration. :D

For me RadioFree doesn't work. I tried adding a new station and I tried clicking on a preset station but I'm just getting another menu on click: "Hide, Close, About, Autorun", and nothing is playing.

hi i made some screenshots...

in the first you can see the 'preset stations' and the submenu... i tried to select one and

in the second pic is what happend after clicked one of the stations (it's the same on every single one).

the 'select a station...' (pic 3) menu point haven't changed.

i also tried to add a station, that was no problem, but it's the same like the others...

well, maybe you can find a solution!!!

@strija: in the RadioFree directory is there a RadioFree.ini config file? If so open it, make a copy of the text inside and send me an email with the details.

Also, when installing RadioFree it should have installed and registered a dll (AutoItX3.dll) in the System32 folder. Please make sure that this is present and that it is registered. If you are unsure, bring up the run dialog and type in the following: regsvr32 "Insert path to dll here" and press enter. Restart RadioFree and hopefully it should be working now.

It sounds as if you are having a breakdown somewhere in the reading of the ini file and the menu creation.

@patstome: you seem to be having kind of the same trouble as Strija. Except there seems to be a breakdown between the selecting of the station and the initialization of the station with the activex control.

If you could send me a copy of your ini file as well I'll see what I can do.

Also if you both could give me more details as to your version of windows, whether it's an english version or foreign, things as such.

Thankyou and I really hope to help you both get this sorted out.

If anyone else is having any difficulties with either program let me as they are both basically the same program and I have a few more that are based on the underlying code as well.

i did what you described with the 'AutoItX3.dll' registration, but nothing changed.

what i'm wondering about is, there was never a firewall warning. when 'netgazette' starts e.g., my firewall ask every time about the authorization...

should there be a similar behaviour?

#382381

@patstome: I do not understand why it isn't working for you. Everything is properly setup in your config file. And since NetGazette is working properly for you, it cannot be a problem with the AutoIt dll. The only think I can think of it that the activeX control is not working properly. Maybe due to the different languages...it's the only thing I can think of at the moment. I remember with my other program, Marquee, some users with different languages experienced the same problem.

Let me have a look at it and see whether or not I can track down the cause. If anyone knows if the API is different depending on languages let me know. I'll add in support for foreign (anything other than english) languages.

#382409

good luck... for you and me ;)

#382417

NetGazette is not working for me at all.

I only see "hide about close Autorun" in my menu. No windows, nothing.

edit - Windows SP2 Pro (all updates)

#382431

My system is Win XP Pro SP2, english language. I tried to register the dll but nothing changed.

I'm havin the exact problem as patstome.

Yes, I am quite confused--how does one get NetGazette to work? I feel silly. :P

When you run NetGazette, a small 'pill' will appear in the lower right hand corner of your screen with an RSS icon and my logo. This is to let you know that it is updating and you'll see it appear every time it does such. After it disappears, the NetGazette logo will appear in the system tray.

Since this is your first time running the program, there aren't any feeds associated with the program. You'll have to add some. To do this, right-click the icon - a menu will appear - and select 'Add a new RSS feed...'.

Follow the dialog text, choosing a name for the feed and copy a paste the address of the feed . Hit enter. The logo pill should pop up again. When it's disappeared the menu should be updated to reflect the newly added RSS feed.

I've noticed that for some people (myself included if I remember correctly) had to close NetGazette on first run for it to generate the ini file before I was able to properly use it.

If you see a menu that only has "Hide, Close, About, Autorun" then select close and restart NetGazette. SirSmiley mentions this in his post on page 2. Try doing this.

I hope this helps a little.

We really need a program; like VideoShelf, as a regular Windows application!

I would like that very much too :)

#382647

Okay my friends, after some debugging I have figured out what is causing RadioFree not to work for some people. It turns out that although I packaged the RealMedia ActiveX control it still needs RealMedia to be installed for it to work properly. This is what was causing the problems.

For those that have mentioned it wasn't working can you let me know if you have RealMedia installed? If you do not, install RealMedia and let me know if it now works.

I will work on a way to determine if RealMedia is installed and if not to bypass the scripting areas that deal with that particular control. Also, I've already added volume control and will probably add in importing of stored radio stations in WMP and RM for those of you that already have a collection of stations stored.

#382657

I've just tried to install RadioFree at work and it works fine. Here I have RealMedia installed and at home I don't so that was the problem I think. Anyway great app :)

#382664

After I installed Real Alternative, RadioFree is working now. Thank you.

#382672

for me is the same... i installed 'realalt' and now it's working.

congrats sranshaft for solving this :D
