Wow... this is really bad news. I'm sorry for all who lost their website stuff.
Needlemen is going down
I was talking to Magnolium/Cassius recently about a completely unrelated problem with my website, and he informed me that he had terminated the account with the hosting company and that I should back up all my files. I told you guys as soon as I remembered, which apparently wasn't soon enough. Sorry.
But yeah, backups backups backups. On the other hand, one never really expects a remote server to go down :slant:. I'm still extraordinarily grateful to Magnolium for this opportunity!

Hi!!
I´m using the free-hosting package for my houselounge! I also have no backup, but i think that's not the big problem. The most files are on my pc...and i hope to rebuild the side!
My big problem is, to get the free hosting package back!!! Who send me the new dates? I hope magnolium has my email adress to send me the new dates..
Anybody here knows some more informations??
thanx for all!
greetings cysco
I am requesting a backup from LiveWireHost. If I get it, I will post here, but if you guys want to request a backup now, open a support ticket at http://helpdesk.livewirehost.com/index.php...ckets&_m=submit
My support ticket is at http://helpdesk.livewirehost.com/index.php...ew&_i=FTX-44272
UPDATE: No luck... They deleted the backup.
too bad. Now I need to find a host that can take 80 / 150Gb of traffic
My site'll probably look into SegPub. It's a little expensive, but we were offered a year free and their 99.5% guaranteed uptime or the month is free policy is nothing short of outstanding. Okay bandwidth, but great services and great reliability.
I got me some new hosting
Now just to move over everything important.
if i was a rich ***** i'd get textdrive... my friend uses it and they respond to support tickets almost instantly.. they also have all the wordpress/textpattern/punbb guys doing your installation FOR YOU O_O
too bad.. i switched back to ambitious lemon since needlemen didn't have the XSL support for Symphony. he probably should have warned people that he was gonna cancel all hosting.
Any decent unix hosting these days has a thing called fantastico (hoped thats spelled right), that gives you 1 click installs of alot of major/popular scripts out there.
If I wanted to install say phpbb on aqua-soft right now, (yea right) I'd just login to the site and press install next to phpbb, and its done.
That's right Tim, even Needlemen had it. Took me 1 minute to set up a Copernicus Photo Gallery!

well if anyone wants to sighn up with dreamhost, use ISCOUNTDAY as a cupon code and get $50 bucks off the first year, (i get $30 back for referal).

What you mean? You get new hosting from him??
too bad. Now I need to find a host that can take 80 / 150Gb of traffic
I saw dreamhost.com have got a special offer on, where they are offering stupid amounts of traffic for normal prices, and the prices are relatively reasonable. If the offers are still valid when my hosting renewal comes up, I'm probably going to move to them.
EDIT:
Yup, here is the link to hosting plan comparison page:
http://dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html
(Also pointing out that I'm not affiliated with them)
EDIT2:
Although I'm now hearing some not so good things about speed, reliability and service, so perhaps they're not great.

I can give you free hosting on osx-e server for that package. Infact, I already pm'ing you about that.
www.metrobiology.com is back online. ![]()
I found a great host that guarantees 99.5% uptime and has good features. I couldn't tell if it could handle things like Symphony, but Wordpress works fine.
You guys just need to use our host, we're always up ![]()
I've got a site!! Check my signature!

I have used Dreamhost and have not had any problems. It's very fast and have not had any down time.
Try entering 777 into the code and it should be about $10 for a year of hosting.

True, who is your host? Or are you hosting it yourself.
I'd recommend ContrastHost http://www.contrasthost.com/, only cause its who we've been using for quite some time, and quite frankly we never have any major downtime and we don't lose crap (often aka me deleting crap).
Hey all, this might seem surprising but i'm posting after what, a year off.
I feel I need to explain to you all what exactly happened. If this thread is cold already, I'm sorry for bringing it back to life.
So, as many of you were aware, NeedleMen was a Hosting Reseller. We were purchasing hosting from a hosting company named LiveWireHost. Of course this brought MANY MANY problems.
We had to deal with their datacenter AND with LiveWireHost. The SQL databases of LiveWireHost were very weak and couldn't handle many accounts at the same time. We (NeedleMen) represented 40% of LiveWireHost and yet we were having a hard time staying up for at least a month.
When I started NeedleMen, I started it because I was unable to find decent hosting with a decent price and service. I decided to create my own hosting and start selling some to pay for it. It rapidly grew up because of you guys. To make myself some publicity using word of mouth I decided to release free hosting to a bunch of you guys.
Unfortunately, the unreliable state of LiveWireHost cost me great pain and I wanted something that worked now that I had over 70 clients paying and non-paying.
So I merged up with a friend of mine who also had his own small hosting company and we both became D7Hosting. At this time we started contacting people that we would eventually close down NeedleMen and move all accounts to D7Hosting. We then realised this was not going to help us.
Our new company was set directly on servers and we were not Resellers. We were dealing directly with the datacenter. We had new standards and new goals but we kept the same old ones: Provide quality hosting at a good price with a good service. In order to achieve this we needed to lessen our quantity of free accounts on our servers so paid accounts could benefit from the company. They are paying for it, they deserve the right product after all.
So we e-mailed you to contact us for the move that you would do yourself. Alot of you did so. If you remember correctly we required for you to be on our mailing list to be elligible to free hosting. This list was only used for us to contact you. We assumed those not contacting us for the move simply are not on the list.
So up to that point we still had NeedleMen online and I was even thinking of keeping it for all the free accounts. It's service was not so reliable yet it was free. Good plan I thought, the D7Hosting server go to the paying accounts and the NeedleMen to the free accounts.
Unfortunately a problem occured between LiveWireHost and Me. I had to close my account at LiveWireHost in a hurry. At first this didn't seem to be a problem since we had contacted the people on the mailing list approximately 2 months before telling them the free accounts won't stay up for long.
Now that we only have D7Hosting and that NeedleMen is dead, thanks to LiveWireHost, we are not able to afford something over 35 free hosting accounts. We know this sucks, we know you lost your things yet we know we warned you and we know people should always keep a backup. We also know we offered you free hosting for over a year or so.
So, what comes out of it? Nothing much you might think but still we are offering the Aqua-Soft guys 2 months free of hosting with us. We also offer free image and file hosting for up to 100mb at Getme (http://getme.d7hosting.com).
You think it's not enough compared to the free hosting you once had or wanted?
Well I agree.
That is the second purpose of this long post. I thought of something.
I'm thinking VERY low cost hosting at D7Hosting.
Something that would be exclusive to Aqua-Soft. Depending on the people that would be willing to buy some hosting at start. We could set a fixed price of something like 0.50$us per month.
With 30people willing to buy it, we could fix the price to 0.50$us a month.
I don't wish to explain more on it right now but I just need to feel the pulse of it first.
If you would be interested in this project please let me know in this thread.
If you would be interested in designing this project with me please let me know by e-mail (thecassius at gmail.com).
If you have any questions or comments concerning anything just ask.
I hope this long post has explained and clarified what happened with NeedleMen.
Finally thanks to all who supported me through this.
Thanks for explaining. The thing is, you didn't notify us that you were closing, and we didn't have time to back up. An E-mail sent two months before does not count as a warning.
An E-mail sent two months before does not count as a warning.
Two months not enough time... are you on crack?
The moment you recieved the email, you should have backed your **** up.
Talk about ungrateful. :slant:
If the hosting is .50, and if I get some good hosting I'm in.
Glad to see a reply and explaination, most people would blow it off and leave. ![]()
Just a point of interest, this email completely slipped my attention! I was looking through old emails when I had to contact him for the unrelated reason I mentioned in my first post, and found it! Quite weird (no excuse at all, of course)
.
.50 cents a month is an amazing hosting deal...I'd probably take you up on that.
Thanks!

Thanks. I'm glad I can see interest with the hosting.
Before I go on about it...
Two months is not a warning?
If I had warned you 6 seconds before closing would it have been better?
Anyways,
I figured I could build up a system where you would have the choice between a pre-installed application (wordpress, phpbb, post-nuke, a cms, etc.) or plain normal hosting but without sql, you would also have the ability to access your ftp, contact other members of this service, contact us, access a forum or blog for the developpment, install more than one application and freely modify the application to your needs (plugins, modules, hacks, skins, themes, etc.). The only thing is that you wouldn't be able to have a PLESK or Cpanel. You would also get your own subdomain name, just like it was with Needlemen. Something like "willy.domain.com".
depending on the number of people willing to buy it at start we will fix the price to it. So for example:
30 people: 0.50$us
50 people: 0.30$us
100 people: 0.15$us
I need to figure out some pre-order system. I also need people willing to help me with the interface which would be cool if it could be similar to Aqua-Soft since it will be Aqua-Soft exclusive.
Of course, your comments, feedbacks and questions are appreciated as it will help this project grow. ![]()
EDIT: For the name of this project, what do you think about Aqua-Host?
