Microsoft Further Delays Vista

Actually it's more than that since Longhorn was supposedly in development even before Whistler was released. In their original roadmap MS said Blackcomb not Loghorn is the real successor Whistler (XP) and that makes this even bigger of a joke.

As for drivers, a lot of them is provided by manufacturers (which is one of the reasons Windows drivers suck). And to be honest i doubt we'll see a business version in november. Why? If the real reason for the delay was "improved quality and security" does it mean that businesses will get a crappier version than consumers? Or will MS drown them in sea of pathces? I doubt it. I think them saying businesses will get it in November is just a "we're not behind, just .... HEY LOOK THERE!" tactis.

About the specs, my comp was more than up to date when i bought it so i don't see your point with that. Not all of us are spec wh0res and sh1t money nor we should be. If my comp falls under recommended specs for XP i expect it to perform as promised. I've seen a lot of crashes (although admittedly less than on Win98) but that doesn't mean i should ignore them and say XP is awesome just because it has 10% less crashes than 98. The point is, it still crashes much more than it should.

And ummm what's with that Mac comment? Either you don't know what you're talking about or trying to start a flame war.

4 years, xp was released in 2002.

the drivers alone in xp mount up to around 600mb total, man.. its probably not compatible with anything!

ill pick up the business ver. from my dads work (big tech company), so ill have it in nov.

i dont see what breakdowns their are in XP, perhaps you should have a more up to date pc before you judge it? My pc specs are in my sig, i never had a crash that wasnt intentional. Its not the best OS, but it isnt the worst. Mac has some flaws of its own... *cough* what anti virus software *cough*

You crash your PC intentionally? Anyhow... In no way am I bashing Windows XP. Like I said, it is a decent, albeit ugly operating system but it does serve its purpose. My point is though, once you have used a Mac regularly you will have a very difficult time going back to windows. Small things like font smoothing, animated effects, built in dictionaries, ease of finding files, are all things that are present TODAY in Tiger. In order to get anything close to these features you still have at least a whole year to wait for vista.

I do find it hard to believe that you have never had a crash because it is something that windows users often have issues with. I had a very nice windows computer with very good "specs" and every so often I would still get the occasional crash/lock up/blue screen of death (the last one was pretty rare but I still got it every once and a while). While it didnt happen alot... it still happens. One of my favorite stories is going to the airport and looking at the giant screens to check flights and seeing "This program has performed an illegal operation and had to be shut down" heh..

Also XP was released october 2001... by the time vista comes out in 2007 sometime it will have been nearly 6 years since their last release. Hence the reason I said "6 years between OS's. It is just strange to see key features keep being removed and the date keep getting pushed back. I hope that vista is a great OS but I wont hold my breath.

I think Mac OS X is a very good OS, its rich in features and they managed to put them all in a very simple elemental way that even a 6 years old kid would understand, aqua interface its nothing but beatifull and all te features blah blah blah..

But come on XP its no so bad, i get to undertand much more XP functioning that OS X, OS X is like a little magic box, whatever i tell it to do, it ill do it in a smart, simple way but ill never know wtf is happening on the inside, XP aside from ugly, virus full "you name it" os, it lets you see what happens on the inside, fully customize it in ervery little aspect, and even well break it .. its like i got more control in XP, but thats just my opinion

I can't wait!..... for them to finish re-writing 60% of the code, that is.

I am so getting a Mac Mini... which should tide me over long enough to get a Vista gaming rig.

woah...60% of the OS needs rewriting. and it's been more than 4 years in development..... that sound s really bad.

Even though I won't be picking it up (Xp is the last Windows I'll use, after that it's the complete switch to Linux, can't stand Win anymore...) I feel kind of bad for them. 4 years in dev, and they still have a messed up alpha product with half the new things taken away from with less than 6 months before release. and the whole Win department is getting a renewal, with the head of the office XP dep coming over to head the Vista project.

Yeah, it blows my mind. Can't imagine how bad the media-stuff is that it requires such a re-write, but it should be faster now that they know WHAT to do, right?

I just realized that even when/if I get vista, it'll still look like a mac when I'm done with it. I really don't mind XP so much, now that I've made it easy on the eyes.
