Another Finder Clone...

wow. if u could make drag-n-drop capabilities on the left hand window ...

working on it....

if you could make eject button for removable devices on tjhe left hand window, as for CDs, iPods, etc

working on it...

A burn folder ...

not sure if this is possible...

And if you could make the "selcted" box of th icons -- the outline that appears when they are selcted -- like the Mac, that would all be sooo coool.

unfortunately not possible...

Okay, I of course defer to you on this, but just FYI, Nexplorer was able to come somewhat close to the selcted box of OSX. Thanks though.

Il ignore that.... and continue with this...

If you would like to see the Finder Clone in action, download the video here (compressed with the 3ivx codec, you need this to view it)

EDIT: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/3ivx.htm

There are lots of features missing (dont comment on the toolbar buttons because they arent skinned to more than 1 image each.. they will be in the release its just not a priority on my list).

Let me know what you think!

As you wish. Nonetheless, allow me to clarify my post for the sake of, well, clarity.

I was refering to the box surrounding a selcted icon in Explorer in OSX, which is a kind of rounded edges box. Nexplorer was able to recreate that effect slightly, although it could perhaps be improved. It's a nice touch. I don't know, Technominds, if what you are working on is similar to Nexplorer in terms of coding, but it does seem that such an effect is possible in Windows after all.

Sorry to go on about this. I'm hung up on, inter alia, these OSX selction boxes. In a few days, I'll be making a development proposal regarding the alt-tab switcher that utilizes the same selction box.

Nexplorer wasnt coded in the same languae as I am using, and the idea is to make a Finder Clone that runs fast enough for you to use on a daily basis, nexplorer was definately not a replacement.

Alot of things are possible on windows, infact im sure there are very small restrictions... if you know everything ever.

I think your posts are disrespectful and I dont appriciate them against my hard work.

#362020

technominds, I gotta say... I do not think vitasg intended nor came off in anyway sounding disrespectful. I hope you in some way see this, as this perspective is important in maintaining one's sanity and I mean this with all due respect.

I wish you luck in this project as you are right, a functional and I mean really functional, bug free, usable, dependable finder clone has yet eluded us; a tough skin is sometimes required to see a thing through though.

This is just my humble opinion but I think people who follow the development of an app can sometimes get just as emotional and feel like they invest a staked interest in it's success not unlike the developer who generously contributes his/her efforts. It's sad when a project doesn't finish on both sides no doubt. But this kind of tension this early on does not seem to bode well.

On Topic: Thanks for sharing your video, your finder clone looks very promising thus far. I’m rooting for you :)

Edit: my smiley face above came out as a questionmark.. hha

im just curious

you said that it will use Windowblinds to skin its features

would that mean that the title bar and the borders be the same as the other windows?

#362414

There are so many clones out there. This one looks like the best,

However. The only thing i really want, is one that works fast, and one that replaces the windows explorer. I had the same feeling for object dock. It was slow and not really a good replacement. along comes RK Launcher, and holy crap that thing runs so fast its like a mac. I have in the past also seen good clones of the Finder. However, if its not conventionally accessable, in other words clicking on "my computer" takes you to "my computer" in the finder clone, then it doesnt really tickle my fancy.

As soon as someone can do this, id pay them for it!

Cheers. (nice work by the way, it honestly looks like the best yet)

Windowblinds has a per application feature :D

Its quick, il work on a registry edit so that files open with finder... the only thing is.. if you open that file or folder from Explorer then there isnt much to do.

If you close down explorer down all together you can use this application with docked items. Then use avedesk for desktop icons (although im not sure if it depends on explorer?). Il try and make it so you can run the program like

Finder.exe /filename

so that you can make it run folders from dock/desktop?

I think thats all I could offer unless explorer follows a registry key for opening Folders!

Thanks for the comment!

This sounds like what we all have been waiting for...

oh yeah @_@ i whould kill for something like that >D

#365085

whats up with the development??

#369495

this is very nice, i'd also like an update on the development, it seemed that all it needed was to clean up a few forms and get the navigation buttons up and running.

im blown away by the speed of this thing, im really looking forward to it!!

is it possible to include more default shortcuts in the sidepanel, similar to what is visible on the apple site for osX?

that and a capability to browse in zip files and i'd use this as a replacement to explorer even when my macthemes arent on!

Looks good so far, but I have a few suggestions, questions, etc:

Q: Is this based on windows explorer? If it is could you possibly conisder having it either based on a different explorer (a 3rd party one) or make it from scratch? This way You'll probably be able to do teh cool selecting thing.

S: Have you heard of ubericon? (by punk software) it alows you to have animations when you open something, including a very similar one to OS X's "Icon ghost" (the icon quickly zooms towards you, transparently, like some kind of ghost) I was thinking you could intergrate this into the finder clone, and make some of your own animations, for when you drag a file into a folder displayed on on the side.

S: I'd like to see support for "Smart Folders" & Burning folders, etc.

Wold you like me to take a video of the finder on my mac? It's a G3 333MHz, but it seems to we able to do animations in teh finder reasonably well... I just need somebody to recommend me a good video capture applicatin for OS X.

(PS: I'm running Panther, but there isn't much diference between the Panther and Tiger finders.)

#371811

hey guys, sorry for the lack of dev. Ive been working on my final major at college and its really taken all my time away. Il carry on workning on this soon and you guys should have a release in a month of two. Sorry again

#375023

So.....

Do you need WindowBlinds to properly skin this thing?

#375028

I don't believe the developers here--they apologize that Real Life stuff takes priority over the development of apps  :P. It's not a problem!

#375032

sounds and looks like a great finder clone! can't wait till it's done! and nightcrawler1089 is right. Real Life stuff is more important than program developement. So take your time. :)

#375042

ok thankyou, will be waiting in anticipation :D

#375520

It's a very wonderful idea to finish this work!

i used the Nexplorer for a long time, for i love the colorful file or file folder label just like Mac.

So the same function should be included in this Finder software.

Hope i can try it as soon as possible.

#377944

#378550
