Nubs 0.8.3 PB2

EDIT

Due to an exception that quite a few people we seeing, I've added some extra code to catch those, rebuilt and incremented the build number. If you downloaded 0.8.2 please download 0.8.3.

Thanks

/EDIT

Find attached to this thread Nubs Public Beta 2. Please do your best to break this. :) and enjoy.

This build has many of the suggestions from the first beta included. (not all, but a few ;))You'll also find a few more new themes in the Sample Themes directory included with the zip courtesy of a long-time Kapsules enthusiast 'arne'.

Notes..

  • For those of you unfamiliar with Nubs and how to use it, please view this video (courtesy StickyWindows) http://www.donelleschi.com/stickywindows/. This video is pretty much how Nubs works.
  • Nubs REQUIRES the .NET 2.0 Framework. Go here if you dont have it already. No, you can not use a beta version of 2.0 with this.
  • This beta expires (will cease to run) on March 28th, 2006.

Errors you may find..

  • I'm not interested in reports on how you *think* the app should work. We've been testing this for a few weeks privately and have all that worked out. (Sorry to be blunt)
  • If you get a .NET exception (very important!); use http://rafb.net/paste to paste all of the information that the error dialog gives you. Once you submit the paste on that site, please record the URL in your address bar. That will allow me to view your paste. That's the only way I'll be able to effectively fix any exceptions you may get. Please reply to this post, or PM me, with the link back to your pasted exception text (from rafb.net/paste).
  • '(Something) doesnt work' - doesnt help anyone at all. Please dont reply in this fashion. You'll force me to lose hair at a faster rate.

That should cover it all. Happy testing.

Oh and one final thing...

READ THE README OR PERISH IN A PIT OF DESPAIR.

#360846

I came up with a .Net exception when I tried to change the theme. http://rafb.net/paste/results/6XQIQP66.html

#360859

http://rafb.net/paste/results/cKd3tq28.html

Was playing around with the configuration dialog, checking and unchecking the "nubs" options, then closed the dialog, then error.

Also, am I to understand that a nub is now created (or the window is hidden) when any portion of the window goes offscreen (or within the designated value)? (this is a new "feature," yes?)

Thanks and keep up the good work!

EDIT: Actually, I LOVE the ability to just "throw" a window offscreen to its tab.

#360861

works great for me :D

good job!

is it possible to add something

when right click on any windows,in the menu,a new comand "nub it" that create tab and hide the window.

#360862

Works for me too, nice job Andrew, love all the new themes........thanks :D

#360865

Where can i find some new themes for it? Id like the default StickyWindows one.

Edit : Playing with the Hide Nubbed window from Taskbar, I hit Apply, http://rafb.net/paste/results/jRpivm65.html

#360890

Benji - Erm, What are you doing? That doesnt make much sense. There isnt an Apply button in Nubs. Try rewriting that please, I cant understand much out of what you said.

#360896

I love the new beta, much more complete and it feels faster in the fade in/out effect

#360898

Due to an exception that quite a few people we seeing, I've added some extra code to catch those, rebuilt and incremented the build number. If you downloaded 0.8.2 please download 0.8.3.

Thanks

#360901

I don't see any file attached...am I missing something here? :

Edit: Nevermind - must have opened the thread while you were updating to the new version. Downloading now.

#360902

This thing is really cool, just one thing.. When I am playing a full screen game, the tabs show when I am playing.. is there a fix on that?

#360960

You want me to rename the thread so the version is 0.8.3 PB2?

-NC

#360961

NC - Yes, please :)

blaze - Not at present. Are you making a feature request?

#360971

Why, yes I am.

You don't need the tabs while you're playing games, close the app, play and when you're done open the app again, is it that difficult ? ;)

#361137

So, none of our requests is fulfilled. Anyway, seems working fine yet. Only theme page is shuffled - Theme button opens Font dialog, Font button opens Color dialog, Colorize works right. Also the fullscreen mode monitoring requested by blaze, would be really cool.

Rimmer, Actually I included several requests. I really dont appreciate comments like that and I'm more likely to ignore any requests you have in the future. Be greatful for what I've provided, or don't use it.

I also have no idea what you're talking about with regard to the Theme Font and Font Color buttons. They work exactly as they should. Perhaps you're running a visual style or WB theme that is shearing off the words on the button. They should look like this...

#361403

Excuse me, if I offended you, I didn't intend to do so. I respect everybody, who can program with any language

Rimmer, Actually I included several requests.

Then you should tell us about it, shouldn't you? Changelog would be fine. /*It's a world standard in application developing.*/

I really dont appreciate comments like that and I'm more likely to ignore any requests you have in the future.

So you did already, but that's ok. You warned us all, that you don't wanna know what we want. The same warning is in the first post of this thread. Hence, I never hoped... Just said what I should say that time. Now when I'm sure that you don't need it, I won't ever bother you. Sorry.

Be greatful for what I've provided, or don't use it.

OK

That's right

#361415

I've noticed that when I nub two apps to the same side the second one overlaps the first, is there something to stop this happening?

Also when I drag to left or right side the nub generally goes to the top of the screen. The only way I can get it to nub to the middle is to drag the window down and left/right. Again is this something I could be doing wrong?

Cheers

mps69_1999 (thats quite a nickname you have there :))

Nubs tries to make a 'best guess' at where youre dragging your window offscreen to. If it's outside of the visible screen boundaries on the top and on the right, for instance, it will Nub to the edge that the window is 'most' outside of. Say you drag your window to (-10, 806) and you have an 800x600 desktop. Nubs will see that the window is 4 pixels further outside the viewable area to the top, than it is to the right and so it will choose the top for you. Great question though.

And yes, the Nubs do overlap eachother. You can simply move them out of the way of other Nubs. Takes minimal effort I assure you ;)

Thanks for continuing to test/use Nubs all.

#361546

I just installed Nubs.

I have dragged an Explorer window to the edge to have it "nubed"(?).

Then I checked the configuration window and saw I could disable the fade effect. I choose to disable it. Now I can't open the Explorer window anymore. This also applies when I do the other way around.

Sofar I've found it working nicely :)

Great job.

#362372

Yeah nickname can be a really mouthful…….for you it can be mps69 ;)

You must be sick of me giving you all these problems.........where as others seems to have none

I’ve found a little problem which just seems to have started over the past few days.

I drag the window off the desktop, nub is created, no problem. When I click on the nub the window appears again in the drag off position, before it would return to the desktop. That’s not the real problem althought it is a bit of a pain. The main problem is when I drag the window back to the desktop, as soon as I let go of the window it returns back to the nub and the window disappears.

Hope that made some kind of sense.

#362445

um can you make it so that there is an option to drag the tabs back off the sides as well to make open windows?

#362723

Great app! thanks for your hard work from the first release, really good one!

#362770

great great great! ;)
