[rel] Nubs 0.8.1 PB1

I think you should detect and decide wether a window should be "nubbed" or not based on the mouse position AND the window position.

I'm not interested in reports on how you *think* the app should work. We've been testing this for a few weeks privately and have all that worked out. (Sorry to be blunt)

Makes me wonder if anyone is really reading the first post by Andrew ;)

Yeah, I didnt say anything cause his reply was kinda walking the line between a statement, a bug report and a request. The line was fuzzed ;) I added it to my list for feature requests (setting the number of pixels that nubs considers a window to be 'outside the screen')

Pretty happy so far that no one has encountered any 'show stopping' errors that limit Nubs' use. Thanks for giving it a go everyone.

I've noticed that when I drag winamp off the desktop I don't get a nub, the same with rainmeter too. Can you confirm if that's an error?

I know I won't drag them off very often but just incase you weren't aware.

Thanks

It's not so much a bug, rather the criteria that I am using to determine whether or not a window is a nubbable (hah, now thats funny) window. There are several, what are called 'window styles', that a window has at any given time that define how it looks, behaves, ect.. Winamp, most widgets, Rain* and Ave* are excluded due to their styles. Most 'skinned' apps you can count on to be excluded as well. I had a report that the cmd.exe window was being excluded, which I aim to fix, but thats why you're seeing that behavior.

If there's a large calling for the ability to nub these fancy windows, I'll add an option.

To be honest I'd say no, I wouldn't think there would be many people who would want things like winamp and rainmeter dragged off the the desktop.

I know from watching the stickywindows demo they drag itunes off, but I think that just the exception to the rule as it's such a large application window.

However I maybe wrong, no doubt others will have their own option.

So far I'm very pleased with "Nubs"

#358608

cool app! only issue I have is with the sometimes single, sometimes double clicking of a nub to restore, depending on window focus. If you can find a fix for this, nubs will never leave my desktop.

...I know feature requests are evil, but centering the app window after first restore of a nub would be a great feature for me.

please dont stone me :)

...oh and I forgot to mention that Nubs crashes when configuring the option for fade effect and hiding nubbed windows. Also doesnt restore windows properly when fade effect is turned off.

#358632

netfun - your descriptions of issues are pretty vague. I'm afraid I'm going to need alot more detail to address them. Please take note from the issue reports from other users (reporting steps to reproduce, actual error text ect.) and emulate them.

'it crashes' doesnt help at all. Please read my original post.

Right. It's not a bug, but something that anoy me and may anoy other people too. That's why I decided to post it. Off course bug reports are important. But I think that this feature worths a post ;)

:-( Dont work in XP64 with NET 2.0 for XP64. Maybe future will support XP64?

#358858

Unless you want to provide me with a 64 bit system, there's no chance I'll be supporting 64bit systems.

#358880

Am i right in saying that this application is for a MAC and does not work on Windows?

#358882

Uh no, this is a Windows application.

#358903

I'm running nubs on a PC, don't know if it will run on a Mac.

I assumed Andrew created this from stickywindows which was a Mac Application, but I might be wrong.

#358904

it's pretty!

But watching the memory grows pretty fast when a window being nubbed is pretty annoying... (did I mention pretty...erm pretty much?)

Still, great work Andrew!

#358935

LOL that'll never stop being funny.

Well I have the errors that have been reported thus far licked. And I have worked in a few feature requests (including a new panel for nub settings in the config dialog, which has lots of room left, hint hint) so I'm just about ready to let loose another build.

Any more requests before I package this one up?

#358983

Requests? Maybe setting up hot keys to show/hide all tabs? Also if possible dragging tabs from one screen edge to another (re-organising tab location)?

Please don't massacre me!

#359010

1.Multi coloured tabs...

2.Hotkey to nubbing windows

3.Adjustable dragg-margin to nubb a window

4.Don't leave this project

off runaway....

#359049

1 is already available. Choose a theme and colorize it, or create your own theme.

2 still thinking about this.

3 done

#359058

It taken me a few days to think of things to I'd like. These aren't biggies but nice to have.

1. Someone mentioned this(I think) draggable nubs, like stickywindows.

2. Option to close all tabs.

3. An exclusion list, for instance email messages etc.

I think that's all I can think of at the moment, hope it's not too late to get them in the next build.

#359748

congratulations... the first view of your app is just brilliant. thanks a lot :). now i'm working it out. ;)

#359755

Thanks much!

We're right in the middle of a massive product launch here at work, so the next public beta of nubs (among other projects) has been delayed a little bit.
