Finally, all the screenshots on WinMac's site are mine from 2 years ago.
All of these date back to Pre-OS X days when it was in development.

Welcome to Aqua-Soft, an organization of people with specialized skills for making the Windows GUI better emulate the Mac OS X Aqua GUI.
The site has been completely redesigned with a new look and a new server. We have added many new features and you can expect more to come as we are ever expanding.
Aqua-Soft produces skins and themes for Stardock's ODNT's many components and various other programs, we also develop our own programs to emulate certain functions of Mac OS X.
We would like to thank everyone for all of their support.
Please enjoy the new site.

so damn stupid i posted this in another darn thread...
hehe I remember, I saw the desktops on neowin with that image
I didnt know what the hell was Aqua-Sot hehe ![]()
Btw...
anyone remeber that weird host Aqua-Soft had some time ago where you could't download anything? Must have been ca. 2 years ago... around when Doug still had his site up. I remeber that I always clicked on download and got back to the page i wanted to download from... It took me days to find out it was not any of my stuff like firewall/popupblocker/antivirus and so on... hehe.
Have fun,
McTrinsic
@Duckie you posted 6 times in a f***ing row! Thats so damn sh##ty! Why in the f*** can you post like that and non-admins can't?! I understand if you absolutly had to upload those pics seperatly, but I've seen most of those screen dump in Emaculation.com! Couldn't you just f***ing link to the images, instead of useing the server space?
Yall know what IM syain'?

seeing those now i feel like im banning myself.
Nowadays, if we had an idea of what panther or further futuristic os X apple's is planning, I wouldnt ever EVER have such compromising in quality.
Man...
nostalgy :harp:
one day people will ask this kinda stuff at aquaxp and ill jump in and tell how it was there before a forum.
damn im a ****ie..........
basically when this site was starting out and window blinds was in early stages, i tryed wb and it was incredibly buggy and became so frustrated, i didnt' really do any heavy skinning for a long time. then when i started playing with a real mac that had os9, and i found aquamakeover.com. after that little bit, i kinda thought to myself that a similar project might be possible with winxp. a small amount of searching found an article about aqua skinning and mentioned iceman's site. from there i kinda found everything else. cool stuff.

I am quite a new member here, so this post has been an interesting read. Thanks ![]()
Iam Pretty new here too (Y) I love this place it's my daily ranaround when I go websurfing love the site guys :rule: (and the history too) :own:
No doubt this is a great thread. But as I have also justly recently joined the Aqua-Soft forums, I was wondering if we could get back to Ludge's original question:
What EXACTLY were the aqua apps, the actual programs themselves, not why they were discontinued at apple's request.
Thanks ![]()
First, I want to say I like the new buttons on the site. Very nice.
Second, I want to say that I want a new Founder badge based on the new blue gel Panther buttons we have at the site here. Please, ASAP. It's making me fuzzy and warm just thinking about it. Kinda tingly too.
Third, and to the point: The Aqua Apps were originally AquaFinder and AquaBrowser, which were Win32 versions of The Finder and IE5 on OSX. Jef ended up making more apps, but I can't remember the entire list - there have been quite alot from different people based on his AquaControls, sometimes almost identical apps
<_<
with different names and maybe a resource or two changed up. The original AquaFinder was an app of beauty. The AquaBrowser was...buggy.
I'd like to clarify one thing: Aqua-Soft wasn't actually founded for the AquaApps - it was founded for Aqua skins on Windows (98 & 2000). The "Soft" at the end of Aqua-Soft was to represent the mix of Aqua on Microsoft OS's, not Aqua "Software" as has been mistakenly claimed by some people.

Seeing all this is making me cringe at how I used to sit here making what seemed to be an endless stream of 'Zoomers' for the old dock type and desktop stuff with desktopX. Oh, and all those really cheesy 'Aqua' themes going around at the time :6.
Things are certainly a lot better now. Hell, my pc can look more like a Mac than the Mac's at work!
Ah, happy memories... NOT!.
It's funny how things have changed in a fairly short time span. DesktopX was a staple in AquaSoft at one time, (maybe 2 boards ago) now it's hardly ever mentioned. Windowblinds was king, now I think it's about an even split with StyleXP and the level of sophistication has rocketed to well beyond anything I imagined a couple of years ago. I'm on my third years subscription to Object Desktop and I had windowblinds standalone before that.
Until recently I was a "****ie" though the other day I became a "member", lurker would probably be a better description. I remember the aqua apps were the aqua mail, finder, ATM and a few skins for desktop x, vbe and windowblinds. I had win ME back then and I started my forray into mac skinning trying to maske it look like os9/8 to emulate my macs at work (I had osx on my ME before we could sucessfully get it running on my G4 even a year and a half later! The first osx was a bug ridden fairly useless work tool that had everyone here (in Spain) sticking solidly to os9.
Do you guys remember the Digital Dreams remembrance pages? We tried so hard and then along came xp and made it "easy" to skin windows. After a good couple of years modding my humble pentiumIII (aquacontrols NEVER worked for me not even in their later stages, sorry Jef) I feel glad to be part of this community even though sometimes there are fights
. Maybe this post is not going any where but nostalgia got the better of me! Mac rules!. As an anecdote I just went for an interview and I did my trial on a 7200 with Freehand 8! sh##! I was inspired by a G4 os9 and I'll end up with ***** whilst having "osx" at home
Life is hard and then you die :boob shake:

You may be waiting a while for DZ to reply - he's not online very often anymore.
I think he does something related to management of telecomms people, though, if memory serves...
Thanks, StevieBM. I was curious about what type of work he does because of his writing skills. I write a bit myself.....therein lies the curiosity.
He designs cell phone towers in AutoCAD.
Hi all... I think i'm one of the first members too (?)... I've pm with Timan a time... Timan, if u remember... Camaelion from Germany... (remember the 11.sept?) i also know the old times...
