Bumping Threads is neither a hobby nor appreciated

Is it just me or does there seem to be an overwhelming abundance of thread bumping latelely? :slant:

Just a suggestion maybe there is a way to block threads after a certain date like say a year from being bumped? It just seems logical (dammit Spock!) to me that if you have something important/relative to an old thread then why not make a post with a link back.

Please excuse just venting.

This is a peeve of mine; so, bare with me.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. But I do think that people should be allowed to post in old threads, but those threads should be prevented from being bumped up. I share this pet peeve with you and would like to see something done about it.

sometimes question are left unanswered or problems unsolved and the only way to get the solution is to have the topic resurface in the latest forum posts box, a great majority of users dont even go to the forum.. they just look at the frontpage for the latest info

I have no problem with this as its 99% of the time the only way to get things answered

#355140

*bump* xD

Seriously tho, yeah it annoys me sometimes to see a 'new' topic only to find out it is actually a year too late, esp if it is bumped only to say 'thanks'.

#355141

Theres 2 different types of bumping...

Bumping where you add more useful info to your post, and to help readers of the thread understand your problem more

Then there is the type people just post "bump" (this type is not allowed)

#355155

So you think people should start new threads? NO?

hmm ok How about people stop posting on the forum? NO?

How about you just get over it? Because I feel the same way about people moaning every five minutes about this forum.

#355157

Tricky thats whats so fun about this place, I live for this crap :D

#355162

Hello Tricky

At least we have someone to moan about the moaners :D

#355163

:)

Like the responses. Guess I should have been clearer.

Yes, for useful info bumping but, do you not think that adding something like "This is great" to a post from two years ago is really all that important?

Then again who can decide what's important or not?

Yes Tricky you're right on the new thread idea (one cup of coffee mentality on my part).

And of course I'd like some cheese to go with the whine!:P

#355180

bump

you shouldn't be annoyed with it. if people didn't post new thread or in old ones, then there would be no forum activity at all. i don't mind i just click on new posts button and look at the date.

#355184

Bump

I'll suspend anyone who bumps a thread without a really good reason!

BAN.. i mean BUMP! ;)

#355194

Just wait till this thread goes months old... and someone write This "I Totally Agree on This" !!!

;)

;)

Tks for the idea...enters into Calendar desklet.:P

While it would be nice to have a "Warning: this thread is 1 month old. Do you want to post? [y/n]," Timan has too much other stuff to do and would rather watch Unbe (and us) eat each other in a cannibalistic orgy. Speaking of food...

*bump

#355277

This has been very information & I appreciate all the feedback. Sometimes ya need others' less clouded views on issues like this.

Also, my kudos go out to all the mod's because if it was me I'd of been in a padded room a long time ago.;)

#355354

I wonder if anyone has noticed an underabundance of me posting here.....(leaves, bumps into wall)

#355363

What makes you think we're not in those padded rooms already?

Anyway, I don't have a problem with people bumping threads legitimately--pretty much, any fair questions. When you bump a year old thread to say "thanks" is a different story in my book...

#355371

While Bumping thread with reasonable post is always welcomed, and it surely helps people about unanswered/updated thread.... but like everyone already said.. Bumping thread with "Thanks/this is great/link for download please and so" on years old thread is definitely not a pleasant thing.

But then again... stopping such threads wouldn't help much.. I mean, how you expect to please our beloved mod's cannibalistic desires ??? :P

#355373

bumping's cool! lol, just kidding. I never do it. If its even a month old, i still don't. aqua-soft's got reel mad rules here. One of the strictest forums i'm associated with. But oodles of releases, with i like ;) too many thread closures though. i think if a thread is useless and the answer can easily be found, delete it, instead of getting useless search results and flooding the archives.

#355380

EDIT - hahaha BUMP!

So you think people should start new threads? NO?

hmm ok How about people stop posting on the forum? NO?

How about you just get over it? Because I feel the same way about people moaning every five minutes about this forum.

I agree, moaning is annoying- punching people in the face is more fun. *that was a fist that just hit you* (I hate eminem- blow him up already)

Tricky thats whats so fun about this place, I live for this crap :D

Wack! learn how to fight like a man! ... Hey Mr Admin, if thats all you live for, get a life...*timan slaps levi and hovers his finger over the "ban member" button.

(oh come on now that was sissy)

ps- no im not drunk, just sick of AS already...

#355411

Don't bump old threads but start a new one?! Somebody starts a new thread and all they get is "SEARCH the FORUMS". 0_-

#355424

People get yelled if they start a new thread about something that's been solved.

People SHOULD get yelled at for bumping an old thread just to say "thanks" or "i agree".

People SHOULD search the forums cause 99% of all the problems n3wbs encounter have been solved ages ago. They are just lazy to do it.

#355443

there was a Thank button I remember. It was a good practice.

#355461

there was a Thank button I remember. It was a good practice.

Until......... people abused it and started thanking every thread just for the hell of it.... sigh, maybe I'm too cynical these days.

#355462

I think the rating system should be more prominent.
