Curved Bar - a tabbed launch bar

Hi,

this is the first release of "Curved Bar" -

thanks to Dreadnaut and Judge who did the difficult part of it:

Dreadnaut made the group (toggle) effectlets and Judge the SysStats vbs-script for it and the controls:

I only did the "rough part" of the config, Judge did the fine-tuning for me!

Still there is a chance that I messed it up (my first aveinst-file), so please post here, if it does not work for you - I hope I can fix it then...

As I can only upload zip-files here - rename CurvedBar.zip to CurvedBar.aveinst for automatic install or unzip the files in your AveDesk-Folder...

IMPORTANT:

YOU NEED “GID Script” AND “G-Toggle Effectlet” BY DREADNAUT AND SYSSTATS

BY JUDGE FOR IT TO WORK!!

Get it here:

http://dreadnaut.altervista.org/download/ AND http://sysstats.needlemen.com/

AND:

I included a help-file for the configuration with the install - it's detailed and full of pics ;O)

It'll be installed to your AveDesk-folder in DockletsSysStatsimagesCurvedBarCurvedBar_HELP.pdf

---------------

edit:

removed file as it took away too much of my attachment space -

you still can get it at my deviantart gallery:

whops: in the sysstat config all the images refer to the "Rounded Bar" directory, that is called "Curved Bar" in the package ! :)

#353353

Damn!!

There's always a bug...

I made some changes at the end and used my test config file!

I edited my first post and now the fixed *.zip is for download!

Thanks Dreadnaut!!

#353375

This appears to be a little difficult to set up to a novice sys-stat user. Although it looks very nice I think I'll wait for easier config. :)

#353380

Not really - don't worry, I just made the help file very extensive, showing every single step. You can do it in three steps:

1. Download the effectlets mentioned and sysstats and install it.

2. Combine your Pidl-Shortcuts into groups 1 - 4 (Rightclick a shortcut and set the effectlet) - see pics in the help file.

- It's already working now! -

3. Rename the tabs if you want (System, Tools, etc might not be the naming you like)

Hope the big help-file wasn't too scaring... :D

#353383

EDIT: I found the help file. I'll let you know how it goes. :)

EDIT2: I can't help but fell I'm missing something. Is this supposed to work with asnother desklet? You start the tutorial by renameing the tabs but I can't even get tabs to show. I go to control panel, add desklet>curved bar and I get the default ? icon. I change the image in properties to the glass curved bar and then thats it. I have a nice curved bar on my desktop that does nothing. hahahaha I know I'm missing something I just don't know what it is?

Sorry for being go green. :)

#353384

???

That's bad!

O.k. let's see - maybe we'll find the trick...

I'll start from the beginning - sometimes the fault is in the easy steps.

You download the file from my first post (Did you download it after my second post? I changed the file as Dreadnaut found a fault...).

Then you've got a zip-file, easiest way is to rename the "Curved Bar.zip" into "Curved Bar.aveinst" and doubleclick it while AveDesk is running (You've got version 1.2 or 1.3? Just to make sure, I've got a computer with Win2000 and there also works only version 1.1).

Then you already should see the bar with tabs on your desktop (what's your screen resolution? It's at about x=200, y=600 or so).

If not, could you check the following:

There should be a new folder - ...AveDeskDockletsSysStatsimagesCurved Bar.

It contains the help-file, a Background and a tab picture.

There should be a config named "curved bar.ini in the Folder configs and a file SysStatstoggleGroup.vbs in the folder "scripts".

If nothing is missing it should work - I just tried again on my computer (deleting all and reinstalling).

Did you already change the config-file?

#353415

Well, everything is where it should be. I'm useing Ave 1.3. I d/l-ed the second file you up-ed. Everything is still the same though. Only after I try to start the curved bar without it doing anything I then try to right click>close and that either freezes Avedesk or it crashes altogether. And screen resolution is 4864x1024.

Thanks for your time and assistance. :)

#353421

That's bad news :( -

I hoped it would be easier...

And I'm afraid you're using the latest version of SysStats also?

Then I really don't know a solution at the moment, but if it does crash AveDesk I guess it's a problem your computer has with my config, the effectlet or the script...

Or could it be my aveinst-file messing it up?

I'll check everything, maybe I'll find a solution -

could take some time, but as this is the first release I guess it can happen...

Everyone's having this problem?

#353423

No problem. Thanks. :)

#353428

No, it works here, and it's very cool. Thankyou for all your hard work. I've never gotten my head around doing stuff with sysstats. Guess I'm just too dumb, but you've really come up with the goods.

#353432

Update.... I got it working. I restarted my pc just to see and .... IT WORKS!

Sorry for any inconvenience . Thanks for a great app. :)

#353434

No worries -

I'm glad it works now!

One better checks twice anyway, so hopefully now all bugs are history... :D

(Well, hopefully)

#353436

Excellent Work. :)

Nicely laid out help file. This should help out a lot of people.

#353478

Wow! This is some hot stuff!

#353484

is this like a dock? or like object dock that has tabs on the side?

#353796

Yes - it's a dock,

more precisely, it's a bit like ObjectDock Plus:

The only difference is, you use your already existing Pidl shortcuts / desklets with it:

By dividing your desklets into groups via the new effectlets (and - for better look - placing them on the dock) you can show/hide each group by pressing a tab.

See the help-file for a more detailed guide :)

#354040

Awesome--very useful. Downloaded, installed, and easily configurable. Thanks!

#356269

Hi -

thanks a lot both of you!!

@blakduki:

Actually I did the help.pdf to encourage people to make mods - I'm keen on new stuff as well! :o))

So share it, please!!

Your mod looks great by the way!

#356346

Just gave this a whirl.... wow. :D

Just a quick question on this... Is it easily possible to have the bar itself underneath the dock items? I'd like to have everything as "Desktop Icon" since I use Win+D quite often, but I don't want stuff disappearing on me.

:o

I think I just found a bug! If you set the dock desklets to have no label, and then click through the various docks, then the labels re-appear. Someone please let me know if this is just me...

#378428

Hi -

SysStats docklets need (on my computer) longer to load at startup than the normal desklets. As AveDesk hasn't a z-order between the desklets (I normally have all desklets on desktop level, too), the later ones are on top of the earlier loaded ones. S the bar is on top of the Pidl-Shortcuts...

I normally solve this problem by pressing two different tabs - so a group of desklets is first hidden and than shown again. By refreshing them, they show up on top of the bar...

Regarding the second problem:

I normally have the labels set to show only on mouseover. This works fine... So I tried your setting and first thought I have the problem too, but it vanished after playing around with the settings again... I tried to set "show only on mouseover" and "no Label" clicked around and it was o.k., than I tried "no label" only again and it worked too - maybe it's not a bug, but only a question of the setting taking fully place...

Anyway, pressing a tab only executes the script made by dreadnaut (and modified by judge):

http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=31659

I'm not sure how this would interfere with the label setting (actually I don't think it's a bug in the script). Still, if the problem doesn't vanish, they can probably solve it - 'm a total idiot in scripting...

But anyway, in my case the problem solved itself - maybe try restarting AveDesk...

I feel like a tard. I'm have'n a little trouble getting the icons on the bar. I have the grid on as instructed in the help file. But I can't figure out how to place my icons onto the bar. Every icon file type I use won't apply. It shows the little black circle with a line through it (the "nope" sign.. lol). Could someone please help explain how to place the icons onto the bar again. That part lost me.

p.s. Yes I am new to the whole sysstat, avedesk, etc. scene. I have used objectdock in the past, but I wanted to try these out.

Thanks in advance

#383529

Hi macrohard -

welcome to the scene! :)

Also I might tell something you already know/tried, I start from the beginning, as you said you're new to all that.

What kind of icons do you try to apply to the bar? The only kind that works are "Pidl-shortcuts" or "Desklets" - so you have to create Pidl-shortcuts first (e.g. using the desktop grabber: http://www.aqua-soft.org/board/showthread.php?t=23904). These shortcuts are like icons, but with mouseover effects, ... You can place them anywhere on your desktop, so on the bar, too (which is only a different look so far).

By setting the Group effectlet (see help.pdf), you can divide these Pidl-shortcuts into groups, which will then react to pressing the tabs on the bar.

Hope this'll help! :)

Is there really no way to get the Pidl-Shortcuts on top of the Dock/Bar automatically after starting the computer or AveDesk ???

Maybe there must be a tool or whatever that will allow u to organise the order of all ur Docklets and Pidle-Shortcuts. if there is one let me know please.

another thing I dunno how to work with the "Show/Hide tool" I've added it and set the argument to "$S" but still dunno how to use it, can someone help me?
