Mac Os X And Windows Xp

No those Geforce2s that the iMacs come with Rock. :own:

I mean, look what about says about their top-o-the-line GF2s:

These sizzling graphics processors kick Quartz Extreme and 3D games and graphics into high gear with hardware transform and lighting (T&L), per-pixel shading and drop-dead gorgeous effects at high resolutions.

HT&L, oh man, I wish I had that on my new pc.

Mac OS X Jaguar, Eye Candy

It's up to you. Which one you prefer :woot:

You people forget. Microsoft copied the original Mac OS. That is the key reason why windows is so similair to the Mac OS interface in many ways. There's no way to operating systems could be designed so similairly by coincedence. It is no coincedence that they are similair, because one system was copied, robbed from the other. I feel like I'm talking in a big room full of children arguing over which operating system is better for this and that when they are really, truly, when you look at them, the same. Yes there are differences, but they are minor when you look at the big scheme.

Of course, the Mac OS wasn't completely original itself. It was Xerox who first came up with the windows, icons, and menus idea. It was just a basic idea and was never fully developed. That is where Apple comes in. Apple took that and refined it, and developed it to what it is now.

You people are so used to the operating systems you work with now, that you dont even realize how similair they all really are. You just assume this is the way operating systems work, and there is no other way. An operating system can look a lot different than anything there is out there today. I'm sure there are some pretty weird linux ideas out there infact. Just dont get caught up in you windows world where icons, windows, and menus rule. Although this what what dominates the computer industry currently, it does not mean that it is the only way.

If you were used to Mac OS then you tried to use Windows, you'd be stumped.

Ask any mac user. -_-

Yes, that is definitly true. Nevertheless, my point is still made. They are both, at the core, very similair operating systems.

even if macos is easier, i can just imagine grinding my teeth trying to arrange all the palettes for Office and other programs.

Having all the important tools at the top of the screen like in windows is important for usability.

That is why macos has always had the top bar, at the top.

Operating System is the connection between drivers and programs. If it requires a human working on this system to achieve productivity then we need an user interface.

So what we are REALLY talking about here is just the "User Interface" part. I'm sure with OS X core, Apple can definetely produce an XP version that is still "Unix-based".

Mac UIs are defintely innovative, artisticly pushed, which is one of the key selling point of their product.

Microsoft doesn't seem to have the desire to offer variety and innocation in terms of visual elements. Considering the marketing situation, Microsoft has no need to push forward their design.

In terms of UI productivity, it depends totally on user experiences.

In terms of OSproductivity, it cannot and should not be judged without specifying area of interest.

No art company will risk their life using windows pc for their core production team due to the nature superiosity of mac's graphics capability.

No programming company will use mac as their main development tool. PC-port is just bigger than Mac-port in terms of market.

I don't own a mac.

If I do, I can't download all those goodies that rest of the world is transfering, play the games that ppl are playing and can't develop freewares to serve greater amount of people in the community. PC just serves my interest right.

I've edited this SO in concluclusion I would like to say that

your if can see aqua and not so XP for all your base.

umm... you can snap the palettes to the top/left/right/bottom.

ok :)

i was just going what someone else had written, and that i find photoshop really awkward.... i suppose its ok if you've got a large screen

Actually, Macs are excellent tools for development, software development that is. They are really pushing the boundaries. The Apple World Wide Developers Conference is right around the corner. Hundreds of eager developers will be there, that love Macs. Its not that PC's are better, persay, than Macs for developing, its just that they are, right now, far more widely used. Macs are getting their attention, though. I'm sure they are just as good, if not better, for developing software.

EDIT:

And in terms of UI productivity, Mac OS X kicks all other OS's in the ASS.

For me, why worry if you are losing millions of programs, when the few ones you use are available to Mac? The only reason I don't have a mac is that I do not want to buy all new software.

In my opinion Macs are made to do normal functions, in a nice clean interface. Its what a computer should be.

#32193

99% of the apps you use on the PC are avalailable on the Mac. By YOU I mean YOU, not a business.

THe only difference is, every program is very refined on the mac. It is a joy to use, and you can even just enjoy the interface..

(in high pitched voice) Really? Do you believe that? I could start naming apps, then you'll be in trouble. ;)

I agree with Taha...

Start naming those, I wanna see.

For whatever I use, some expample:

DC++

UltraEdit-32

Alcohol (burns cd bypassing various protections and takes in almost all format)

Guitar Pro (particularly important to me, since tabs on the net are mostly in this format)

SSH Security Shell

Games

I'm sure Mac has alternatives that are capable of doing what PC softwares can do, and I believe that's why you said 99% of apps for PC are available on Mac.

Strictly speaking, I don't think 99% of PC softwares got ported to Mac.

#32279

Actually, I kind of am a liar. Ive fully switched to linux now, and 99% of linux apps ARE available in OSX (damn BSD). Oh well, but If I like Windows, you'd be in trouble taha. <_

#32399

Let's not even talk about games for Mac. Macs are not gaming computers.

#32401

I don't know. I just find all the apps I used in Windows to be available on Windows to be on the mac too.

I stopped playing videogames when I was 8 or so, so I really am not concerned about gaming. What else remains? Nothing.

And if I am REALLY desperate, I use VPC B)

And to you PC-(L)users, I present this challenge: open a .dmg file. I dare you :D

#32435

File Roller can do it on linux. :6

And Power Archiver on Windows. :6

:6 :6

Open a Gz or Bz2 on a mac w/o 3rd party apps. :6

#32437

Heres my thoughts.

All the apps I use are available on Mac, so what do I care? Plus, Mac is just simple. No clutter, just gets the job done. OfficeX, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, all available (Main apps I use).

Plus, they just have great things which we spend all our time trying to do on a PC... Safari, iTunes, Mail, The Dock, just a ton of things.

Hope that made sense. -_-

Maybe it's just me but my Macs are full of clutter.

#32457

They seem a lot less cluttered than Windows, or they do a good job hiding it.

not clutter, my friend - animations and eye-candybar. if they increased it anymore, it would get on you nerves. but right now it is perfect.

btw.... was it you or maqbi9 who has an iMac?
