Report MOBYDOCK V0.65 BUGS here
I am using Windowblinds and maybe that is the cause of my problem, which is: Mobydock is a huge window coveriing the entire screen. There are no icons or anything. Things can be done in the background, but the 'dock' is like a translucent film over the entire screen area..
----------------------------
Just checked without WB, the prob is still there..
Here is a screenshot:
Oh, another thing (I don't mean to sound like I DL'd the program and just started looking for things that don't work... but...)
When I load up mobydock and there're already windows in view, it tries to take the snapshot but if the window it's snapshotting isn't on top, it actually snapshots all the windows over the position of the window it's supposed to show..
(ie I have three windows tiled on my desktop right now, and a folder underneath the tile. the snapshot shows the intersection where the three windows tile, but it's the right size for the normal folder)
Well, here is the weirdest bug of all,i clicked on MyComputer and the dock simplie closed without a single error.
And now everytime i start it and pass the mouse trough the icons the dock zooms and freezes.
It already hapened before with v6.
And the only way to get it to work again is to restart my computer.
Does anyone know why when starting the dock the background is fine but icons are boxed in?
When you click the clock the icon bounces but the hands don't.
EDIT:
Okay, now the hands bounce too. So nevermind. ![]()
The bounce slows everything down.. ![]()
One word: SLOW. I appreciate Moby's work but this thing is SLOW. Even on the lowest quality setting, it's still EXTREMELY choppy. Is it actually faster for anyone? The original MobyDock was waaaaaaaaaaaaay faster on my machine.
to taha:
i see you use windowfx1/2 or something similar for shadows. try to put mobydock in the exclude-list. that helped before.
---
when mobydock freezes or crashes, try to kill it via taskmanager and also kill the explorer.exe-process. then restart explorer.exe from taskmanager (file->new task) ! now, restart mobydock ! so, you don't have to restart the whole OS.
Also, make sure to use 32 bit screen color depth ! otherwise you will not be able to run/see it.
hope this helps some of u,
moby
Initial Report:
1. I downloaded the full version of Mobydock.65 then I took all the .dll's and the Mobydock.exe and pasted over the older Mobydock .5x replacing everything except the dockconfig folder. I then combined the icons of the old and new Mobydock into one dockconfig folder and preserving the initial .ini files.
I then attempted to launch Mobydock .65 and everything froze.
Since that did not work I had to reconfigure the whole new dock one icon at a time. This was done successfully. I guess for whatever reason a clean install of Mobydock .65 is the best way.
2. The maximum number of icons including clock, trash, & dock-control was 30 icons (turning off running processes and snapshots). Any insertion beyond this will make the trash can not accessible . Compared to Objecdock at 45 plus or Y's dock at 40+, Mobydock runs into a disadvantage. This is a resolution of 800x600 but similar limitations would occurr at other resolutions when docks are compared.
The improvements to this dock are many but I'm just reporting bugs and problems here. I'll keep you posted as I get more acquainted with the dock.
Thanks
Enabling bouncing icons slows the dock down like crazy...no wonder moby didn't enable it by default....the bouncing takes place very slowly and the motion is extremely choppy....if I have a few windows open and I try and use bouncing icons, here's what happens
I click on the icon, the application loads up but the icon does nothing...then after about 3 seconds, the icon starts to bounce up and down very slowly but as soon I remove my cursor from the dock area, the icon bounces very fast.....weird
Oh..and btw is there a way to use the poof from the mobydock in Y'z Dock??? I want the whole poof not just a poof from a single PNG...

Found another bug....when the clock icon bounces, the hands go outside the face of the clock.

Most "System Items" work, except for "My Documents". If I set an icon to link to My Documents, whenever click the icon it does nothing at all.
No big deal, I used a link to My Documents (E:\My Documents) and everything's fine again.
Anyone else had this problem?
Great Program ! a little bit bugy but have potential for the future ..........
My Problem; i open the settings window and don´t see all options because the window is not big enough, i can not resize it ? already had the same problem with the previous version
WinXP Sp1
Good work Moby !!
It runs veeeeeeery slowly for me...
Hope moby won't get offended, but this is unusable...
The slowest dock EVER!
I tried all the obvious tricks with no avail...
I also noticed a LOT of bugs... when i open the configuration dialog and move the mouse over the dock (while config is open), i get only "keyframes" (states with icons i'm hovering over maxed out) with no frames between. When i close it, the problem sometimes stays.
Dock sometimes get's locked in a weird state in which it doesn't accept any mousedowns nor does it react to hovering... the only solution is to kill it via taskmanager...
There are also some visual glitches like stuttering icons etc.

ok. a performance hint (we had that before) which may help people with medium/low-end cards :
go to display-properties->settings->advanced->troubleshooting and move the slider one notch to the left.
hope this helps
moby
Nope, tried that one too...
Besides, i wouldn't call GF4 Ti4400 (buggy drivers or not) low end ![]()

If you specify a system Item in a dock items properties, you cannot change the display name, it forces the system item name...
ie: Control Panel if specified, Cannot be named System Preferences, you OK
the dialog and it retains the Control Panel name on the Dock item...
no fun ![]()
I had the same problem that MageGuru stated. The only workaround was to delete that item from the dock.
ahhhh I forgot all about that moving the notch one to the left thing. I had moved it back up when I stopped using Mobydock before since Y'z and ObjectDock don't need that change
I'll try that when I get back home... hopefully it will correct everything.
Did experience the following:
Left machine up and running with Mobydock over a 9/10 hr period. Use UD (United Devices) as my screen saver. Prior to it switching to screensaver mode everything was fine, afterwards dock was slow. Ended up showing a jump in memory usage as well. Recycle of the dock worked to clear the issue.
Okay I'm home now... moving the thing one notch to the left worked great. Mobydock is smoother than ever. I'm sticking with ObjectDock though as Mobydock still can't fully replace my taskbar.
Mobydock stops working after a long while. It still magnifies but clicking on the icons wont open anything. and clickin on the icons repeatedly makes them disappear... but not a big problem. just have to restart the program.
Siddharth about that multiple png poof effect it has been added to that v0.4 of Y'z Dock and there is also a jaguar multi-poof cloud
