[rel] D-Weather Widget

I meant on the front of the desklet....I edited the XML file as you said and closed and restarted Avedesk...but it's still showing just the city name. I also tried deleting and re-adding the desklet to the control panel. I guess I'll play with it some more. Do I have to play with the "width" parameter?

Edit: n/m.....the string appears in 3 spots and I only changed 2 the first time....thanks for all the help

Check out the new version. You can toggle long city name and short with just a single click.

Okay. I am not sure the problem you are suffering from, but here is the general instruction:

1. flip it by clicking bottom right corner,

2. replace "Montreal, canada" with your city name and

3. press enter. It then list up the cities worldwide with the same name on the drop down list.

4. Flip it again to make it show the weather of the city.

Well, why don't you follow the instruction above for changing the city field. In term of C and F, it takes some time to be changed. Wait for a while until the combo box value is changed before you flip it again. If not, try again. If it won't work, please let me know.

i press Enter on step 3. but nothing happens; it doesn't list the cities worldwide, i change to F and it changes the box beside it but when i flip it, it goes back to Montreal and C. weird..

That's probably because your city name is not in the weather.com's list. Go to http://www.weather.com and make sure that your city name is searchable.

Ya.. weather.com doesn't seem to have all the cities. I would recommend you type the name and press the drop down... if the drop down is empty then it doesn't have your city. If you live in the States, you can always type your zipcode and it will locate the city.

ok, well, I tracked down the problem, and after installing avescripter, my jscript went a bit funny ... so i fixed it with the usual regsvr32 jscript.dll & regsvr32 vbscript.dll and its all working now .. dunno why this happened, but I know my jscript & vbscript were working fine before the install of avescripter, because I did a system restore creation point before installing, and system restore became blank after installing avescripter (when I went back to check it) .. all fixed now though this procedure also fixed the systats configs which didnt work after I installed avescripter ...

Hmmm, that's very strange. I don't do any installation or any modification to registry. And I'm pretty sure the aveinst installer just copies files.

Would you mind doing a test and try to reinstall avescripter to see if it reproduces that problem again? I'm wondering if it is avescripter or just pure no luck it happened.

ok, I reinstalled avescripter again, and on a friends pc (since it's so good), and none of the problems which I initially encountered.

btw ... good work on avescripter .. I can hardly believe what I see in the task manager in terms of mem usage, etc .. so little, but soooooooo good :D

Thanks.. and tomorrows release release of the scripter will be 150kb smaller! I've redone the communication protocol and using winint api. Allows you to connect to HTPPS, FTP, PROXY, WHAT Ever... and faster too. And I believe even more memory friendly.

A little "bug". Dual monitor setup. Dragged the desklet to the 2nd monitor (right side, but not all the way to the right border). Went to toggle the "C" to "F" and the pulldown box appears on the right edge of monitor one, not anywhere near the desklet. Same thing for the "City" pulldown box. It's not earth-shattering, but just a cosmetic annoyance I guess.

Also another bug is when you change the size of the desklet in avedesk, the drop down also appears in the wrong place.

In fact, so do my place (I'm living in south korea). The space for city name is too limited to put everything, as you know. That's the reason why I made it togglable such that you can choose long city name and short one.

If it display's N/A, that's weather.com fault. It sometimes just shows silly things like that. That's why I was looking for an alternative XML feed for weather. Weather.com doesn't seem to be always "Correct" which can drive me nuts.

If you go to your temp directory, you will see a avexmlcache that is stored. Those are the files that are downloaded from Weather.com. I can't control them :S.

I also believe weather.com turns off the high temp in the afternoon some time. Since it's the "expected" high temp for the day, not the "actual" high temp....once you get to a certain point in the afternoon you've already reached the high temp for the day (usually) and they turn it off

I've tried to get Acuweather to answer me on giving me a xml feed, but they just seem to ignore me... If you can get them to give you a "Legal" link, then I'll be glad to add support
