Weather Docklet - By Albiek

Revision History ReadMe First

v0.1 (06-02-2003)

o First Release

After loading the docklet, use Args1 (under docklet properties) to define a location. The location can be a "zip code" or "city, state, country". The program loads with 01545 as the default zip code.

You can then use the middle mouse button to update the docklet or wait for 1 minute for the next update. (Make sure you close the Docklet properties before using the middle button)

The docklet, currently, can ONLY do the following:

- Show the Temperature on top of the Icon

- Show the Weather Condition as an Icon

- Show the Location/Condition as the Label

Please note that ONLY SOME of the weather conditions are implemented. The non-implemented ones will show the temperature and the default gray icon.

Warning: This program is still beta and it is buggy! Use it for testing purposes only.

Download it at his website - http://users.wpi.edu/~albeik/yz/

**IMPORTANT**

Installation

Exract the above RAR file inside your Yz Docklets folder

Right click the dock and select "Add Doclet..."

Highlight "Weather" and click on "Add to Dock"

Note: Do NOT select an Icon when Weather loads! It should select one by itself.

Found a cool tweak, guys...

copy the weather.dll, paste it elsewhere, rename it weather2.dll and put it back in the weather docklet folder.

Now, add a docklet, pick the extra weather one, and you can now add another city!

Excellent! will this work with OD too?

Um, no, that is why it is in the Y'z section

#30533

i followed all of the instructions and it seems to be working perfectly. i also switched in different areas codes and city, state's and everything went smoothly. no matter what city i put in i couldnt get a sun to come up, i guess everything is just overcast? haha.

#30536

try "abu dhabi" ... :)

its 82F now...

Wow, it works wonderful. You are causing me serious stress albeik. I think MD-DX is the better dock, but your (and siwus) docklets are making this dock 10x better.

Problem: It seems to update itself every minute. And when its updating itself, the dock freezes temporarily. Can you let us choose how long before each update, or allow just manual updating. Because I dont need up to the minute weather, and i really need the dock working.

I know this is going to annoy you, but: how integrated into the docklet system is your programs? Would some talented program be able to recreate these things for other docks, or is it too heavy into the docklet SDK? Just wondering, because Moby is slow on updates (even though they're worth the wait), so I dont know how long docklets will be for MD-DX.

Works only for usa T_T oh well will wait for some other version :)

I gotta say I love this dock, but I'm just wondering is there a way to display the temperature in Celcius instead?

It's on my list for the next release! :)

This is great docklet !!!  I love this one like I love all of yours.

One problem, is the temperature suppose to be on top??  Mine shows on the bottom of the icon.  I was just wondering.

Thanks, and great job !!!

FatAxl :own:

You are right.. :shy: the temp is supposed to be at the bottom (so not to cover the icon).. I'll fix the documentation...

Thanks!

It shouldn't be restricted on USA.

For example:

"Abu Dhabi"

"Akita, Japan"

...etc..

You have to be specific: for example if you type "Boston" that wouldn't work, b/c it could be any of the following:

Boston, United Kingdom

Boston, Georgia, United States

Boston, Indiana, United States

Boston, Kentucky, United States

Boston, Massachusetts, United States

Boston, New York, United States

Boston, Virginia, United States

The best way to get the proper location name, is to goto weather.com and type in what you use on the docklet. If you get a proper page... then (theoraticall) it should work for the weather docklet!

Give it a shot! Bug me if ur still having problems! ;)

I'm not too sure what's going on right now, but Ottawa, Canada has a ? mark icon, when recently it was a Cloud.

Thats because the weather condition for "Ottawa, Canada" was "clear" and i didn't implement it yet (including some other weather conditions.)

Hopefully, i can finish implementing all the conditions for next release.

Thanks!! :)

#30555

oh c'mon, people, READ THE READ ME.

He clearly states that not all conditions are included.

Thanks for your kind comments and i am sorry for your headaches!

The updating time will be configurable on next release .. (used 1 min for testing.. sorry)

Also, I'll try speeding up the checktime process.

In regards to Moby: to be honest, i have never used it... I'll search/download it, check it out and tell if it's at all possible. :joystick:

Thanks again for ur testing/comments! :)

K thank you, it seems to work great for world wide. But actually not for my little island lol : Saint-Denis/Gillot, Reunion :)

#30561

WoW! It's another keeper!!!!

Now if the US would only abolish their stupid measurements (feet, miles, Fahrenheit, etc. etc and we wouldn't have to hassle you... Makes you wonder why there isn't 92 cents to a dollar or 63 minutes to a hour...) >.<

#30564

another kick ass docklet |\ thanks mate!

•celcius

•manual update entry, like 30mins?

deep respect.

aniba!

#30566

Working fine here albeik (Madrid, Spain) even the first time I executed the docklet. I'll pay attention in case a bug appears. Should I writte suggestions as well in this thread or only bug reports at the moment?

Greetings.

#30575

well actually even the site is buged with me, when entering Paris, France it does not give directly the information, but provides links to 2 locations (and one of them is exact), if i try a search direclty for Saint-Denis/Gillot, Reunion, as written on the site no go, it works first by doing Reunion alone, than Saint-Denis/Gillot.

Something wrong there.. i think i am stuck.. :/

Albiek... This is awesome! Thanks for the great docklets you've been providing us :own:

I have a issue that you might already be aware of, but I'm posting it just in case. I noticed that when my cable modem connection temporarily and unexpectedly dropped (thanks to Comcast ) that my dock kept freezing up to the point that I had to drag the weather docklet off my dock to regain functionality of my dock. I figure this is due to the docklet waiting for a connection timeout. I just thought I'd bring this to your attention...

Thanks again and keep up the great work! (Y)

Amazing. you guys have introduced me to the Wonders Of The Dock!. I have a problem with the weather docklet in that I can't use the middle mouse button to update it. If you are implementing a variable update/manual update, would it be possible to change how you click on it to manually update? Maybe the user could assign it from an .ini file? (I'm only and end user, not a modder!) Thanks. Ludge.
