Just a temporary site, since I'm not skilled in graphics-design, HTML, or what-web-ever.
Whaddya think (honest opinions please)?
Keep in mind it's a temporary placeholder until I find someone who's really willing to make something.

I think it looks cool! You should contact one of the skilled developers to help you with design. ![]()
Increase the spacing between the widgets. I'm guessing that anyone who might be using Avedesk must have at least 1024x768 resolution and your graphic only takes up half that width.
Even better, what if you made the site a mockup of an Avedesk desktop? Use your desklet images.. so like "Download Avedesk" could be linked from an image of FTP Drop, etc.
"Useful" is spelled with only one "L" ![]()
Are you serious? damn... I have been writing usefuLL for all my life"Useful" is spelled with only one "L"
Looks very nice man as it is
Keep it up !!
I think you should change:
1.the background color:D
2.the red text under the banner (font, different color,...)![]()
1.I like the "AveDesk a desktop enhancer" part. Very professional. Except for the 1.3 in italics. I understand you're trying to make it stand out. Maybe changing it to standard "AveDesk blue" as in the icon would help.
2.Instead of "Make your desktop pretty and useful with AveDesk desklets", try "Enhance productivity with elegantly designed desklets."
There's a good image of the desklets, but perhaps you might consider something that sets it apart from the competition(control panel, flip, suck, etc.)?
Other than that, it's a great site so far. Simple and does what it's intended for.
Keep up the good work.
So, does this mean v1.3 is in the final release?
the file on the website doesnt say teaser.. I hope it is final!
[edit] Build date says Oct 2nd, so its not new
Just gotta say Willy I love your avatar, Gena would be proud
Any confirmation if its the final version...?
I've volunteered for Ave's site but due to some personal reasons, it's not yet finished (barely nothing at all i should say) but i'm still in the process of doing it. I wish I could do it, though. For I love his app.
May I help with the coding kalyoster?
or maybe it's better to leave it like that: alistapart suggestions2.Instead of "Make your desktop pretty and useful with AveDesk desklets", try "Enhance productivity with elegantly designed desklets."
Nice, but I think that we dial-upers would have thanked you for progressively encoded graphics.
Andreas, didn't you want to get back to me and kaloyster? Sorry to be anoying, but yeah..its been almost 2 weeks now, since we said that we were done.
We need to get only 1 site going with all the desklets/skins/bundles so that we people can access it easly. That's why I created a quick site at avedesk.philc.ca. Granted it needs lot more work in design, but its a start.
Problem is that Andreas doesn't have lots of time on his hand, he likes it when you just do it then ask if he likes. Then get feedback ![]()
Hey, you got me with that "useful" stuff too!

thats what I was trying to achieve
edit: and my post wasn't meant as an offence about the current site. its just that kaloyster and me did a lot of work..and yeah.
LOL.. If you want to offend the look of the site, I'm ok with that since I know its BORING. I was hoping someone would offer their PHP, WEB skills to spice it up. I'm always open. All I want is a site to upload, download and some top downloads etc.
If you offend the idea. Then I fart in your general direction. ![]()

I agree about the one-website-to-rule-them-all, but at the same time I think AveDesk should have its own page: just a simple website, with a small review and version informations. A website with a lot of stuff is perfect for downloading but distract the attention if someone doesn't know what is looking for - an AveDesk page would focus on -the product- ![]()
Ya... I think its 100% fine to have many sites one for Avedesk (Only AveDesk) maybe avescripter, sysstat etc.... Or even have mirror sides to offload bandwidth etc.
My real goal is to eliminate the "Search Forums" for X desklet and get a 404 error, link is dead, or worse download old versions not updated.
I was thinking on having a central "categorized" download section so that anyone can search for the desklet they want.. Like Konfab, Dashboard, etc.
Then have the site link to the others too and vice versa of course, ![]()
uhh it smells ;-) no uhm, I don't want to post it publicly here yet, what kaloyster and me did is to "spice up" (cool, I just learned that :-) the AveDesk-Site with wordpress, making it easy to edit. We also changed the design to fit AveDesks coporate identity.
The upload thing is a thought. I don't know what to think about it yet. As for the downloads: As a registered user you can upload files and link them with pictures and everything. I did this because I think published Desklets should be tested by someone before the go live on the AveDesk-Site.
Well anyhow AndreasV hasn't come around to check and say if he likes, I don't mind him being busy. I am just yeah kinda sad?
It seems that the upload and download of the desklets is the same thing that I'm currently doing. Except for the part of "testing" it.. I think its the uploaders responsibility. Keep in mind, are you sure you want to start testing every single uploaded desklet? But the same thing is applied, you need to register to upload. I know I don't.
uhm, well in that case we would need to install some sneezy up/download manager..
