Dissolve transition isn't smooth. It's slow. Maybe because my screen size is 1024 x 768 and I used the 800x600 version stretched to full screen. For now, I'm still sticking with Nostalgic-Vital Desktop thingy... The zooming in and out really gives a feel of moving backgrounds.
Keep trying though.
