[preview] iTunes 5 for Trillian

So far, I have about 15 hours of work on this.

To do:

- emoticons (recommendations, please)

- buttons in buddy list window (mostly done)

- alternating colours for buddy list (not sure about this either)

- hide scrollbars?

- move `buddy list' to be the name of the current user

Stuff that's done:

- buddy name in chat window

- attempt to get name and buddy icon in buddy list window (hack, but done)

- status indicators (will simply be blue all the time, as the global status doesn't allow different images)

- service icons (will show as the buddy icon)

- encryption icon shows up in the upper right corner if SecureIM is supported.

- buddy is typing icon will show up by the encryption icon, as I can't put it in the actual conversation (it's on the layer below that)

- emoticons button placed next to the text input, just like in iChat

Added:

- global status indicator (previous was just the AIM connection status)

- add buddy button

- user's name in chat window (needs a bit of tweaking for height)

- better colours (needs tweaking too)

Current hacks:

- buddy icon is actually status image for AIM; I'm probably going to keep this as it's somewhat correct and solves other problems

- `buddy list' text is the trillian button. I don't really like this, and I may move it to by the status indicator, as a fascimile for the username

Problems that can't be properly resolved:

- the conversation buttons (text, audio, and video chat) buttons don't have equivalents in trillian skin code, so I'll have to leave them out, make them dummies, or put other functions in their place using the original buttons

- I'm having a bit of trouble getting the SecureIM image to show up; it'll be placed in the upper right corner like safari

Desides: that's actually the trillian button, and I put it there because I'm trying to copy the way iChat actually looks. I believe I'm doing to move it somewhere else, though. Which leads me to...

Vague: That yellow blob is the status icon (available, idle, away, &c.) I think the trillian button will go next to it, and I'll make it the glowing blue used in the iTunes skin so it matches -- that also solves the problem I had of not being able to specify different icons for the status.

grim53: The way to get rid of the scrollbars is to simply put them behind the other stuff; the ordering of the controls in the windows allows this, and I actually have it set up in a different skin. The only problem with this is that it makes it more difficult for people without a scrollwheel--of course, you can still use the arrow keys and such, but there's nothing to actually grab onto.

shockme: I wouldn't know where to contact him or anything, so probably not.

I'll be taking you up on that once I get support for other IM protocols set up. I have the plugins for everything but AIM deleted, so I'll have to dig up a copy of 3.0 (the version I'm using) to test it out.

Fortunately, I think I have a copy of 3.0 burnt to CD somewhere...

Gotcha. Really looking forward to this, and I already use Danimator's brushed metal skin.

Skin Information:

This skin should work `out of the box', to the best of my knowledge, and have only a few minor bugs that need to be fixed.

It should support AIM, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, and Yahoo! at this point, but I have no way of actually testing this, as I only have the AIM plugin.

I still don't have good icons for any services other than AIM, so you'll have to do without for the moment. If you can help with this problem, I'll be sure to put the icons in and give you thanks in the readme.

Known bugs/problems with the skin are:

- now typing and SecureIM images show as purple when not being used

- no emoticons included in skin at this point, so clicking the button for them just shows a little black line (will be fixed before final)

Customising:

At this point, the only customising you can really do is change the name displayed in the Contact List from `stilist' to whatever you wish.

To do this, open the preferences.xml, and find stilist (it's on line 13). Simply change this to whatever you want, reload Trillian (if it was running), and you should be good to go.

i release this is a .1 release, but i think ill stick with danimator's skin because it feels more solid..

It's not `fully compatible' with 3.1 because it doesn't support audio or visual.

Other than that, everything should work -- I've been developing it on 3.0, actually.

i think the texture is great but the buddylist names are rather large and there is no cell icon for users that have enabled forward to mobile

Currently, all icons in the buddy list are set to the AIM one, but I forgot about mobile. I'm trying to find a full set of the official iChat icons, but haven't had any luck so far. As for the size of the names, it's possible I forgot to change the size on them. I'm developing at Mac resolution (13pt), but I have to convert it down to 9.5 for everybody else. I noticed I forgot to do that on some things last time, but that should be all good for the next release.

Speaking of which, here's what I hope to have for next time:

- chat rooms

- cleaned-up scrollbar buttons (it's a bit of a hack job currently, and I know I can get it better)

- mobile icon

- possibly transfer window

- alerts

- sound pack, if I can find it

- full set of icons, if I can find them

- fix the purple things in conversation windows

- all text set to proper size

- emoticon set

Please point out anything else you see wrong--it's impossible for me to find all the bugs in it, as I don't use all the features others will. Anybody who can give me a sound pack or icon pack would be especially helpful.

Also, is it considered an offense to include Lucida Grande with skins? I'd assume most people here have it already, of course...

EDIT: I've found a set of service icons (designed for Adium by pss), and I'm requesting permission to use them.
