Aqua-Soft Forumsthx for the update. i gotta tell you, this is one of those widgets that i was like, 'this looks interesting, guess i'll check it out. but really, who wants a freakin' globe on their desktop all the time?' within 5 minutes of installing, i couldn't imagine not having this on my desktop. so, thanks again for the widget i didn't know i couldn't live without!

Brilliant Update! I completely agree with shmengie; this is an amazing widget ...thank you for your hard work! 
You can now have Xplanet running on your desktop using SysStats.Press Shift+Left button to change the location on which the planet will be centered.
Xplanet is free software, distributed according to the terms of the GNU General Public License. Visit http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/ for more details and source code.
Please test this and let me know if you find any bugs.
UPDATE: Version 1.01 uploaded. This will hopefully correct the problem with setting a new location.
The problem resides in the script locating xplanet.exe, if it doesn't the script will crash.
If your location is different from "C:Program FilesAveDeskDockletsSysStatsscriptsxplanetxplanet.exe"
you'll need to change the "XPlanet Location" meter.
UPDATE: Version 1.02 uploaded. Should correct problems with downloading updated clouds file.
UPDATE: Version 1.03 uploaded. Mainly performance improvements by preventing xplanet.exe from running an unnecessary number of times.
UPDATE: Version 1.04 uploaded. Correction of a really stupid bug introduced in 1.03.
If you have 1.03 instead of downloading the whole thing just change "myplanet" for "xplanet" in line 6 of clouds.vbs.
UPDATE: Version 1.10 uploaded. This version will hopefully correct all the problems in previous versions and will also run smoothly. There's also no need to specify the location of xplanet.exe. To change your location you should now press Shift+Left button to prevent conflicts with AveDesk.

Yeah, xplanet does tend to have that effect on people
I’ve been using it for years to continuously update my wallpaper, and I’ve written tenths of scripts to automate it so that I could change wallpaper, change position, etc.
When I found out AveDesk/Systats it seemed like a dream come true, to have the possibility of having xplanet as an object on my desktop instead of having it wallpaper dependant.
However remember that most credit should go to the people that have developed it over the years (visit http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/ for more details on the program). I just did the SysStats front-end.

SCoUt: Left click on it and choose configure. Then change the X and Y scale to adjust its size to your preference. The original size is 512x512 so if you want, for example, a 128x128 image scale it to 0.25x0.25.
I just wanted you guys to remember to check out the annular solar eclipse next Monday, starting at around 7:30 UTC. You can clearly see it on xplanet, so don’t miss it.
You should choose a city on its path at the right time of day (see map). Lisbon at around 9:00 UTC it’s a good choice.
Of course that if you are on the right part of the world you should go outside and see it live! Just remember to wear protection goggles.
