[release] XPlanet for SysStats

You can now have Xplanet running on your desktop using SysStats.

Press Shift+Left button to change the location on which the planet will be centered.

Xplanet is free software, distributed according to the terms of the GNU General Public License. Visit http://xplanet.sourceforge.net/ for more details and source code.

Please test this and let me know if you find any bugs.

UPDATE: Version 1.01 uploaded. This will hopefully correct the problem with setting a new location.

The problem resides in the script locating xplanet.exe, if it doesn't the script will crash.

If your location is different from "C:Program FilesAveDeskDockletsSysStatsscriptsxplanetxplanet.exe"

you'll need to change the "XPlanet Location" meter.

UPDATE: Version 1.02 uploaded. Should correct problems with downloading updated clouds file.

UPDATE: Version 1.03 uploaded. Mainly performance improvements by preventing xplanet.exe from running an unnecessary number of times.

UPDATE: Version 1.04 uploaded. Correction of a really stupid bug introduced in 1.03.

If you have 1.03 instead of downloading the whole thing just change "myplanet" for "xplanet" in line 6 of clouds.vbs.

UPDATE: Version 1.10 uploaded. This version will hopefully correct all the problems in previous versions and will also run smoothly. There's also no need to specify the location of xplanet.exe. To change your location you should now press Shift+Left button to prevent conflicts with AveDesk.

You can download it HERE (4.29MB) .

I can't keep the file here for long, so mirrors would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there

I got 404 both with firefox and ie .

#313008

You must have a hell of a computer man, cause it worked exquisively on mine.

#313009

this is neat, thx. problem: it came up perfectly, but, when i entered my zip, it disappeared. i can see the label (los angeles), but the docklet itself is gone. so, i re-extracted and changed the zip from the sysstats configure menu instead. same thing.

ideas?

#313029

Cool, reminds me of that google earth thing....

#313072

Very Nice addition indeed. However whenever i go to change location by adding either zip code OR physical location as indicated to do the globe vanishes and no longer appears. I should note, i went into the meters location/zip and modified those to my USA one and the Globe simply will not appear at all.

I completely close AveDesk and restart but it's still a no-show for me when i change location settings except the Lisbon, Portugal.

Works fine with the default when returning all settings to original. Any clue to this?

#313096

I've uploaded a new version that hopefully will solve the change location problem. Plese read my first post for details.

#313125

I would help with a mirror, but all I get is a 404 error. If you send it to me, I will host a location for you.

Thanks

Thanks for your offer. I was uploading and that's why you probably got the 404. You should be able to get it now.

#313135

Here is a new link to download this great release.

Working as expected now, thanks for update version. As is it's a super addition to AveDesk and seems to not tap into demands anyplace. Nice job.

#313145

okay. i've checked out the xplanet site and perused through config.ini and clouds.vbs. according to the xplanet site, the cloud map is updated every 3 hours. and per the config, cloud updates are looked for every hour. so how come my clouds haven't changed in 2 days? i'm not a coder, but i'm gonna take a semi-educated guess and say perhaps it's the vbs?

i swear though, who'da thought i could sit and stare all day at the sun's light moving across the earth? it's hypnotic!! thx again!

edit: okay, after rebooting, the back mask became visable and i could not get rid of it. so, i re-extracted the zip and the mask is normal again and the clouds have finally changed. will monitor and see if the clouds now update automatically.

FatAXL: Thanks, maybe you could upload the new 1.03 version.

judge: Thanks, I'll do that. Oh, and thanks for SysStats!

shmengie: maybe you're still running version 1.01 or older?

Everyone else: Thanks for your comments!

Depending where you have AveDesk/SysStats installed, you probably need to change the path to xplanet.exe.

When xplanet is not running, open xplanet.ini (in the configs folder) with notepad or something, look for "Value=C:Program FilesAveDeskDockletsSysStatsscriptsxplanet" and change it to the folder where xplanet.exe is.

#313618

Thanks so much wedge! That did the trick! :)

#313652

Hey wedge ...i'm sorry to bother you once again. Things have been going great with xplanet until i turned on my computer today and experienced this:

untitled15er.jpg

any idea what this is all about? Thanks in advance!

#314396

Cool, reminds me of that google earth thing....

Aw man, you should get Google Earth! it's the sickest thing I've ever seen! "Oh look, there's my house!" Really enjoying it right now :D

#314399

Hey wedge ...any idea what this is all about? Thanks in advance!

i had the same thing happen. i re-extracted the zip and it's been fine ever since. hth.

#314435

hmmm...is this widget acting funky right now? or is it just me? the cloud overlay looks timelapsed-smeared. i think it's prolly the feed and not the widget.

#315075

yeah shmengie... i'm getting the exact thing! I wonder if i'll need to re-extract again. Love this thing ..i really hope it develops to where these things don't happen on a regular basis.

#315077

I have no idea why the effect overlay doesn't stick and causes the black border. The same thing happens to me. I'm looking into it and hopefully find a solution.

You can go to configure and add the effect overlay 'earthmask' to the 'earth' overlay, instead of re-extracting the zip.

As for the clouds, you should read the xplanet site. The cloud map is a composite of several satellite photos and there can be overlaps or even complete distortions on some zones of the world. But remember that the map is updated every 3 hours and with some luck the next version will be correct.

#315303

Thanks wedge! :)

#315306

OK guys, I've just uploaded version 1.10, see first post for link.

This version will hopefully correct all the problems in previous versions and will also run smoothly.

There's also no need to specify the location of xplanet.exe anymore.

To change your location you should now press Shift+Left button to prevent conflicts with AveDesk.

Lets hope no more bugs surface!

Thanks for your help and patience.
