Anyway I've derailed this thread enough. Back on topic. I like the ideas coming across so far. But we'll need to wait and hear what Ave and Unbe have to say before we make a decision to start designing or coding anything. Let's just wait for them to respond. Keep the ideas coming though. I vote for judges System.

and maybe textpattern for a frontpage, dunno, I'm more familiar to Wordpress-coding.

Judges system seems to work really good, but we'd have to maintain two systems and it would be some work to combine both (maybe we want a small self-updating list of the newest releases on the frontpage ?)

And textpattern comes with a search function

Yeah, It looks awesome! It's kind of expensive, $49 ... while others are free and can have a good chunk of what Symphony has like Live Search.

I think free would be the way to go, because the money could be used for something else. Just an opinion.

HUGE thanks to everyone who applied.

I'll have a chat with Ave tonight and then i'll post what we have decided on this matter.

What i know now is that Ave will be busy for next few weeks and that i will be overseeing website development and that we will pick a team, rather than an individual. Also we apreciate the suggestions that have emerged in this thread.

I don't want to disagree with you in every post but you can use Textpattern for every site. You can make download sites, news sites, even image galleries.

Probably it's a bit more blog-like than Symphony but it's nowhere a blog-system.

I'd say it's more similar to MovableType than to WordPress (for example).

Since Ave will be very busy for the next few weeks, he ceded all the work regarding the realisation and organization of the avedesk.com website to me. So it's me and you guys.

One of Ave's wishes was that everyone who applied becomes a member of the team. While this may cause headaches in the future, I'm counting on you guys to work together and create something to make the community proud.

To begin, I need to know what you guys prefer doing. At the very least, we need a graphics team and a coding team. Since I don`t know all of you personally, I think it would be best if you stated your preference (what part of site you'd like to do), and then we could make teams and start working.

What I know at this point is that we would need team leaders who would keep things on track; they will be chosen by me once we divide into teams. Additionally, Ave also wanted to have a group chat with all of you, so I'd apreciate it if you listed your timezones here in order to arrange something.

If you're still interested after reading these minimal guidelines (more will come), please post once more in this thread.

I apply for coding the basic structure of the page in CSS and xHTML and doing some things for kind of a coding reference for the page (useful if someone needs to add stuff to the html or CSS) If you look at my actual works, you can see I can write a very readable CSS and HTML (see http://einserver.de/index.php )

I also apply as coordinator for the layout-coding-team

(we should split by 3 - Graphical, Layout-pogramming, Backendprogramming)

i was bored so decided to craft a quick mock-up of course the design would be a group idea but heres what i came up with

Maybe a little HTML coding as well (it's a shame I'm incapable of coding PHP and other of those stuff but I'm really into doing this) I also can help in CSS coding so as to acquire further knowledge in CSS from you guys. I'm mainly applying for the site design, but if we are going to use Textpattern I can also help with that.

And I've also got quite much experience with XHTML/CSS and I've modded the Textpattern source code a few times, so I know the basics of PHP.

Anyone against the idea to start a team-internal wiki or something similar (I could also open my ipb-testforum for the team, it's not used by the regular members atm)?

I can also provide some serverspace (100mb) for sharing and stuff.
